Sonny Collins, president of the San Antonio River Foundation, thought the owner of the Dallas Mavericks should make amends for his harsh words about the San Antonio River last Spring by assisting with a fundraiser at the Arneson River Theatre. Collins wanted to have Mark Cuban perch on a dunking booth on the stage and then sell chances for up to $1,000 each to guests on the opposite bank to try to hit the target and drop him into a barrel of “river water.”

Collins’ invitation to Cuban went unanswered, as did a subsequent email. The next email generated a reply from the feisty owner.

The River Foundation had received a donation from H-E-B of an official NBA basketball autographed by the entire Spurs 2004-2005 championship team. The ball will be auctioned off on eBay between November 18 and 28 as part of the River Foundation’s $Abay $ale.

Now, Cuban is throwing a Dallas Mavs’ autographed ball into the $Abay $ale court, and the River Foundation will post them in a head-to-head auction ending simultaneously on November 28 during the SAbay Soirée (http://www.sanantonioriverfoundation.org/sabay_soiree.htm) hosted by Biga on the Banks.

While Cuban also is sending in a $1,000 personal contribution to the River Foundation, the language accompanying the gift was far from conciliatory: “Anything to stay out of that nasty water. I look at this contribution as potentially keeping a river dunkee from being emotionally scarred for life.”

Let's make sure the San Antonio ball goes for more than Mark Cuban's ball!

You can bid at home, but if you want to cheer on the hometown ball during the 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Soirée, tickets are $40 in advance at SanAntonioRiverFoundation.org

You can bid on several items at the $Abay $ale. In addition to the autographed balls, there are dinners, hotel stays and much more. Check out the San Antonio River Foundation website (http://www.sanantonioriverfoundation.org/sabay_sale.htm) for details.

Proceeds from the $Abay $ale will help the River Foundation's efforts to provide amenities along miles of riverside pathways for generations of San Antonians to enjoy for years to come.

I cant really hate on Mark Cuban for this too much... at least he is giving something.....

but one has to wonder how much more petty anyone else in the world with THAT type of money could be besides Bin Laden.

Yes, I just compared Cuban to Bin Laden..... they are brothers you know.... :downspin:

Mark Cuban is a classless asshole. If he really wanted to do something nice for the Arneson he would have volunteered to do so. Not be asked to do so.
