Mavs' George hospitalized, Mbenga out 2 weeks with foot sprain
October 31, 2006
DALLAS (AP) -- New Mavericks swingman Devean George was hospitalized Tuesday with a stomach ailment that could knock him out of the opener.
"We think it's a food deal, but he's had this problem before," coach Avery Johnson said. "Now it's kind of come back again, and this time it's even worse than the first time. So we'll have to evaluate it."
George left the Lakers to sign with Dallas as a free agent in the offseason.
Dallas opens Thursday night at home against San Antonio.
The Mavericks also announced they'll play at least the first two weeks without third-string center D.J. Mbenga, who strained a tendon in his left foot Monday.
