These are pictures of far north and northwest San Antonio. Most of what you see is outside Loop 1604.

there are some apartments about 100 yards behind where you are standing.

Meg and I are moving in there in March.

I didn't realize they were building a new IMAX. In 5 years, traffic on 1604 will be ridiculous

From visiting east of Gruene and Wimberly recently, I get the impression that the entire area between SA and Austin west of IH35 is solid with 1st or 2nd country homes, a lot of wealthy retired.

Traffic on 1604 is already ridiculous.

Especially a little farther NW than where BH is @ La Cantera.

I don't see any progress at the Braun/1604 area to relieve that congestion nightmare.

This theater is going to be bad ass when it opens up.

It wasn't that long ago that 1604 at Bandera Road was a two-lane highway with no development on any of the 4 corners of that intersection. It was only about 10-15 years ago that you could drive out Bandera Road and encounter no lights between Braun Road and Circle A in Helotes.

At that time, though, Braun Road was a short cut to Helotes.

Now?

pfft.

1604 at Bandera in 1990 had an average annual daily traffic of 10,200. In 2000 it was 49,000.

In 2005 the average annual daily traffic number was 92,000.

In 15 years the average annual daily traffic of 1604 at Bandera increased by 81,800.

I recall someone posted some ariel maps of some of these Northside areas from something like ten years ago, and now...

Yup. I grew up in a neighborhood just off of Bandera Road and just south of Braun and was still there in 1990. I could drive from my house to a buddy's house, which was off of Galm Road in Helotes, in 7-10 minutes at any time of day, even without horrendously exceeding the speed limit.

I couldn't even dream of doing that now.

I'd love to see those sorts of shots of, say, the area from Leon Valley north to 1604 from about 1980 and compare those to a shot of today. I suspect that most people who now live out there would be shocked to see the difference.

That's almost near our house (1604/Guilbeau). We are just one more exit after 1604/Braun. Our section isn't that crowded, but the Braun/Bandera traffic is crazy sometimes. (Still absolutely nothing compared to when I lived in L.A. though)

Someone should really build toll roads along there.

Well, they finally finished that right turning lane coming down Guilbeau and from what I've seen, it's made a huge difference in moving traffic through (especially since most everybody turns at that street to get to Bowens Crossing).

I live in Germany now, but that's exactly where I live in San Antonio. by Brauchle Elementary School. I can't wait to go back home
