Dallas Cowboys rookie and Brackenridge graduate Sam Hurd was named the NFC's special teams player of the week.

Hurd, who joined the team in the spring as a free agent from Northern Illinois, made a game-changing play in the Cowboys' 35-14 road victory over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday night.

Hurd's gem came with about 10 minutes left. A Cowboys' field goal had cut the Panthers' lead to 14-13 when, on the ensuing kickoff, Hurd forced a fumble and recovered the loose ball at the Panthers' 14-yard line.

On the next play, Julius Jones gave the Cowboys the lead for good when he dashed up the middle for a 14-yard touchdown run. The Cowboys went on to score a franchise-record 25 fourth-quarter points, with 22 coming off three Carolina turnovers.

Hurd finished with two special-teams tackles. He has six stops for the year.
