This game is going just the way a game between two talented, deep teams should go - back and forth play that is coming down to the final minutes. Great game to watch.
This game is an eyesore. Officiating is shitty both ways.

I agree the refs are ruining what should be a very fluid game. They should be seen more than heard, and right now they are making way too much noise that isn't necessary

Well we got lucky there. They missed a lot of shots in the 2nd half and our rebounding was a lot better...
The reason they are missing shots is because they are covered and the shots are contested. Last year they were driving to the rim at will - not any of that in this one. That is the defensive presence that slows teams down.

1) I love Tony's shot...he has confidence on the floor and at the line
2) Elson...what can I say...he attempted to dunk the ball more times in this game (I think he got 3 dunks and missed 1 or 2) than our previous centers attempted all season last year...he has great energy, and yes, he can guard Dirk and make him a little uncomfortable
3) I feel good things on the way

Everyone played average or below average (especially Duncan) and we still won. Good job. And there are no Mavs fans, what a surprise!

Damn that was good. I feel like I need a cigarette. Winning the season opener = good. Winning the season opener against a division rival = good. Winning the season opener against a dangerous team that will be a conference threat = better. Winning the opening game against the bitch ass Mavs = BEST.

Elson changed everything. The game tonight was in no way similar to the playoff series. The reason is Elson. The Spurs could go big and play a center. Duncan could guard the center while Elson was effective with Dirk. Bowen could guard Josh (Josh's 20 points scored while being guarded by Bowen is just HUGE). The game was the slow type of game the Spurs want. It is all about Elson. It's almost like having David Robinson again... (not really, but some similarities).
That is why I said the Spurs are back. The Spurs are scary. Dallas is incredibly good and that is why it was a close game. If Dallas hadn't started the fourth quarter going 5 minutes with no points until Diop scored, then Dallas would have won despite just how good the Spurs are now.
taken from the Mavs board regarding tonights game :lol
Forget TD, they are just as concerned with Elson :lol

Hey, where was Devean George for the Mavs?? Is he injured or something?
Hospitalized with stomach pains ... in other words, he knew the Mavs were going to lose and didn't want to be there to see it in person.

AWWW, poor baby. But damn....Mavs are so deep, it's sick. Devean George, Stackhouse, Croshure, Harris.....their bench is looking nice.
ShoogarBear
11-02-2006, 11:50 PM
Stackhouse is championship cancer. I have no doubts that the closer Dallas gets to winning something, the more likely he is to personally screw it up.
T Park
11-02-2006, 11:50 PM
Yeah Bonner Williams will be key
If WIlliams can get healthy, that will help out in bundles.
If Williams can guard and rebound like he did in New Jersey a couple years ago, the Spurs bench then becomes better.

oh yeah guys
why no Barry tonight?
was there a reason, or did Pop just not wanna put him in?

Prob matchups.
His defense is horrible, Finley's is better.
That simple.

The game had other made-for-TV moments:
-- Official Jess Kersey was KO'd with a split chin :cry before halftime when a blocked shot bounced hard off the whistle still in his mouth. :lmao
-- Mavs owner Mark Cuban said before the game he'd be on his best behavior per the commissioner's orders :lol -- and he sort of stuck to it.
-- Howard was called for a flagrant foul, and new San Antonio forward Francisco Elson's screaming fit after a dunk drew a technical.
:toast :toast :toast Congrats Spurs.
Duncan just 13 pts but had a double-double and erased an early sluggish performance with a rebound and putback with 50.4 seconds left :tu

Yeah let me again prop Beno Udrih.
Don;t know how his D was.
But damn, 8 points 5 assists and no turnovers.
FANTASTIC opening night.
Keep bringing that Beno, make me forget Detroit in 05.
Solid D
11-03-2006, 12:30 AM
What I liked in the 2nd half was the defensive intensity the Spurs displayed with several combinations.
The starters go on a 7-0 run to draw within 3.
Elson, Timmy and Horry played excellent D and the Spurs did no go small in the 4th.
Gino made a 3 or 4 huge plays defensively in crunch time.
Parker gutted it out and even did his best Curley Neal/Marcus Haynes/Isaiah Thomas dribbling impression.
Bowen made some of the clutchest shots (clutchest works here).
Good moves by Pop.
...and Dallas missed some of the ones they made in the first half.
Good win.
Horry For 3!

It is good to see the Spurs beat the Mavs :) I only got to watch about 3 mins of the 1st quarter while I was on my "lunch" break.

Now what i want pop to try and do is, play elson more at the 3, he could be the perfect bowen replacement instead of james white who we mite sign. then we can just worry about replacing a sg and c in the future.
real test is tommarow elson can he d lebron....chuck bowen on hughes
easy win, next!

First, Elson is a beast (for at least this game...wow)
Second, Dirk's 3rd and 5th fouls were complete and utter bullshit.
Third, that technical on Elson for the dunk-scream was one of the worst Ts I have ever seen.
All around....best game I have seen this year so far.

I coulda sworn that a couple of years ago they made it mandatory to have a backup ref after a ref hurt himself during a game and had to be taken to the hospital or something. coincedentally another ref was in attendance that night... i think it might have been an LA game.

Agree and also heavily question Avery for having him not only on the court but with the ball in the cruicial possessions last night.

Thank you Spurs! I won $100 betting on San Antonio +3 pts. The Mavs actually played better than I thought they would. I'd rather the Mavs have won but $100 is a nice consolation prize I guess. Spurs looked like they just wanted it more than the Mavs in the 2nd half to me.

Elson could have been hitting the gym every day from the age of 10 and he'd still never look like DRob. The man was a freak of nature.

I absolutely agree that Dirk did have a couple of BS calls on him. And as much as that upset me, I managed to console myself with the thought of Tim Duncan fouling out because he got his foot stepped on.

:pctoss :pctoss :pctoss what a bullshit loss. If we just would of made our open jumpers and kept driving we would of won. :madrun :madrun I am so fucking PISSED OFF! But whatever you won but you still cant get a double digit victory over us which shows if we do a little more tweaking, the spurs will be back as our bitches in no time! :fro
