LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) -- Two Texas Tech freshmen have been kicked off the team after their arrests on suspicion of burglarizing a home last week.
Offensive lineman Dimitri Lott and defensive end Rashad Hunt, who were both taking redshirt seasons, were dismissed by coach Mike Leach on Tuesday, four days after the arrests. A third freshman, linebacker Julius Howard, also was arrested but will remain on the team, Leach said.
About 3 a.m. Friday, a man called police from his home after he saw two men leaving the front door then noticed electronics gear missing. Officers arrested the three after stopping a car matching the one described by the homeowner, then found items believed to be from the home, police said.
The three remained free on $3,500 bond.
Mike Calfin, the attorney representing Lott and Howard, did not immediately return a call Thursday seeking comment.
