View Full Version : Nebraska at Texas A&M

SrA Husker
11-05-2006, 07:59 AM
Venue: Kyle Field, College Station
Time: 2:30pm CST, ABC Regional Coverage
Line: Nebraska -1

Thoughts:
Just 48 hours ago, almost everyone had a different opinion on this game. However, Nebraska took care of business yesterday to all but wrap up the North Division, while Texas A&M essentially gave up the game to Oklahoma with very questionable play calling in the fourth quarter. Nebraska needs a win to head into the Colorado game and Kansas City to face the Longhorns a second time confident, while Coach Fran needs a win to show that he can win the "big games" - he is 0-8 against Nebraska, Texas, and Oklahoma in his career.

Prediction:
Nebraska 38, Aggies 31

GO BIG RED!

According to JWG's preseason analysis, Nebraska has the best LBs and dline in the big12, better than Texas. So they should be able to shutdown a&m's running game.

Our front 4 has been playing pretty good lately, but our LB's are pretty banged up right now and lacking depth. 2 of our best barely played against missouri, if at all (McKeon and Octavien). Our offense has found reliable playmakers in BJax, Mo Purify, and Lucky. a&m is definitely beatable, even at their crib. Fran is not the right coach for a&m, and he will get out-coached by Callahan. Nebraska-31 texas a&m-17.

If Neb can stop the run - they'll be fine.

Which team will show up? The team that held UT and USC to barely over 100 rushing or the team that allowed OSU to run for 260-some?

Nebraska definitely will demolish A&M if they play like they did vs Texas and MIzzou (<- just because it was their latest game). if they don't play like they did vs Texas then, they will still win just will be a closer game. also, from what i saw from McGee A&M he really isn't that great, and i still don't get why aggies think he's that great.

...and i don't get why you are allowed to post on this site? you, obviously, don't know anything about football. McGee is a winner...its not his fault his line was unable to pass block that game.

^Another tight game coming up for the ags. I really think they are the better team going against Nebraska, who I feel at this point are really overrated a bit. If Nebraska can play a whole game and not just show up for the 1st half, should be interesting. What I would really like to see is a&m establishing a downhill running game, you can wear out Nebraska doing that and should also open up play-action passes, downfield passes, etc. I stated in a earlier post that a&m would lose one of the two home games against ou and Nebraska, they lost against ou so I'm going with the ags in this one.

Went to game, had great seats right behind the goal posts, 2 rows up....was excited as hell, the Aggies were dominating the hiskers in the 2nd half, they had the lead and the ball deep in Nebraska terrtory, with 2 mins to go, the place was rocking, the fans were going crazy....then the refs bail them out with that call on roughing the QB....and they score in last seconds to kill me.

2 straight weeks, 2 losses by 1 point when I am there watching.....i can not take this shit.

I wouldn't exactly call the refs bailing us out on the roughing the passer call...if you look at the replays, the hit came a good three seconds+ after Taylor released the ball...there wasn't even any doubt where it could NOT be called. The Aggie player bailed us out on that one, not the refs.

Between the blocked field goal, and the roughing the passer call, the Aggies had plenty of opportunities in those final minutes to put the game away. Nebraska got damned lucky to pull it out, but it wasn't because of favoritism from the Refs.

Yeah, I thought the refs bailed out atm at OSU with the PI call in the endzone, but I'm sure that will get no play from an agrot.

another one point loss, and nobody to thank but the A&M coaching staff. there is rumbling now, that if Fran does not beat t.u. he will be fired...as he should be.

...they are not, but the Aggs should be at least 9-2, probably 10-1, and could be 11-0. what a painful season, thus far.

8 wins and a bowl game you don't think will save his job? I think even if they lose in Austin, if the Ags can win a bowl game, Fran comes back.

Another question...if Fran is shown the door, who do you replace him with?

the news is Mike Sherman...and 8 wins and a bowl shouldn't save his job. not even close when you look at the talent on that team.

As a UT guy, I really don't like this Mike Sherman idea. Sherman was a head coach in the NFL less than a year ago with playoff wins in the last five years. He seems a little bit "Joe College" as well with his player's coach reputation. And those middling-to-successful NFL coaches seem to do well in the NCAA.

Luckily, I don't see Fran getting canned as long as he keeps producing eight win seasons.

3 seconds????

Hardly...more like 1 secord at the most and he barely hit him.

Are you blind? That was roughing the passer if I've ever seen it. How can you call that a bail out? Come on, that dude is a moron for making that hit at least 1.5 secs after he released the ball. You can't put that on the refs, this one is on the player.

BTW, good to see some other Cornhusker fans on the board! I never look at this forum so I missed this thread until now. Is anybody else actually in Nebraska with me?

How bad has our tackling been these last 3 games? Shanle is horrible!!!! I can't wait till next year and Bowman is back and hopefully a somebody else steps in and takes Grixby's, Jones', and Shanle's job. Hell, Green can grab some pine if Grixby or Jones can make the move to Safety, they might do better at that position.

Here is what might hurt Fran the most in regards to job security. Since he has gotten to a&m he has not beaten Nebraska, he has not beaten ou, he has not beaten UT and he is 1-3 against Tech. I know that a&m fans expect to win big games against big time programs, Fran has not done that to this point in his coaching tenure at a&m.

Mike Sherman, also, already coached at A&M. he was a o-line coach in the 80's, i think...and and also had a stint either before or after that. i have to check my facts to be sure...

...as for you not seeing Fran fired if he keeps producing 8 win seasons?...shows how much you know about A&M football. A&M is never happy with 8 win seasons when you have the talent to win 10, 11, & 12.

tick tock tick tock (patiently awaiting the t.u. response)
