"I will take his title away with pleasure."

Little does he know how much pleasure that would give to a great many other people as well :lol

I've been hoping for this for months. He's stuck under his brother in Pride. They would never fight each other. Aleks coming to the UFC would be great on so many levels...

1. He would destroy Sylvia...

2. Sylvia has said that Aleks has slow hands...hahaha.

Also, check this recent interview of Sylvia...
http://www.graciemag.com/?c=144&a=5625

Quote of the year: "Against Fedor? I would beat him. I Think my striking is better and I think he hasn’t fought a tall striker like I am."

Wow! I guess he's never heard of 6'10" Semmy Schilt, nevermind the fact that he's trained with his 6'5" brother for years!

3. Tim Sylvia getting wrecked by a Russian with a mullet and this back tattoo??
http://www.mustangmods.com/ims/u/1076/1495/116840.jpeg

Soooooooooooooo delicious. The typical UFC event fan wouldn't know what to think...their heads might explode... :lol

4. I hate Tim Sylvia... :fro

Aleks would destroy Sylvia and then reign supreme in the UFC HW div. It would force UFC to get some more talent (hopefully some international) in the division which would be great for us fans!

Plus it would introduce the casual American fan to the cold breeze of Russian death that is Emelianenko!

the cold breeze of Russian death that is Emelianenko!
:lmao That's pretty good!

Fedor and Aleks also have a younger brother they are training, Ivan. I think he's 18 now. Probably won't be long before we see him coming up through the Pride ranks as well.

I still laugh at that Josh Barnett quote (to mma reporter), "You'll have to excuse me, I just got hit by a giant crazy Russian with a Reaper holding a baby on his back!"

HW in UFC is lacking of depth.

Funny to see how many think Sylvia is the best HW in UFC. :lol
The current belt holder yes, but the best????

Hmmm, guess those who have a definite bias towards overseas sluggers don't know as much about the UFC & MMA as they would want others to think. :lol

Ivan is a skinny kid, but he's no doubt getting some great training and will certainly fill out some I would think...

Vera is, right now, the heavyweight with the most potential... Arlovski is great, but has a weak chin, Sylvia is better than he used to be (which isn't saying much), and the Frank Mir era is definitely over.

Vera definitely has the most potential, although I'd rather see him at 205 lbs.

I'm just curious who the best is right now if it's not Sylvia?

I think you're trying to take a shot at me so I'd like to address that. I don't have a "definite bias towards overseas sluggers".

I enjoy all mma, from supporting small local promotions to the big shows like Pride & UFC, have for many many years. I'm not trying to start some Pride>UFC argument, all I'm saying is that bringing in Aleks would be amazing for the UFC and its HW division. Unlike some of other divisions in the UFC, the HW lacks depth. Bringing in a world class guy like Aleks would improve the situation for the UFC and the fans. Simple as that.

Now why do you have to come in here insulting people's knowledge of the sport? If you have a point then say it. Do you feel insulting people makes your argument more credible?

Can you imagine the potential for this kid? Growing up with Fedor and Aleks as your big bro's? The training that kid has already put in must be sick!! It's pretty cool to know that as the older Emelienankos start to slow down that Ivan will be starting to hit his peak!

Vera (suprised King Leo didn't know this with all his infinite MMA wisdom :lol ), AA/TS tie, Kongo (I think those that wrote him off will be eating crow w/in 1yr)

Okay... when did I say "Pride is better."? Or even imply that? As far as that goes, there can't possibly be a solid argument that the level of heavyweight talent in the UFC is higher than of that in Pride. I'm not talking about the other weight classes. Just hw right now.

I've heard Kongo is a badass, but what I've seen of him so far is one decent fight and one really bad one. If he comes up with a really good one, hey, good for him.

I was supposed to know that in your OPINION Vera is the best right NOW? How does that make any sense?

Vera hasn't been tested too much yet. I'd love to see him crush Sylvia after he puts Mir out of the UFC for good. But RIGHT NOW, I don't see how anybody can rank him ahead of Sylvia (and NOBODY does, except you apparently)...in the world or in the UFC. He just hasn't done enough yet...

LOL...how has Sherdog gone downhill? Because there are lots of new fans there that don't know much about the sport? So the sport growing is a BAD thing? You make no sense dude...

and I'm not sure why you always come back to Sherdog in your replies when it has NOTHING to do with this thread? It's one of many sites that I visit. The info there is top notch. The weekly radio show is top notch. The only American journalist at the Pride press conf I snuck into was Josh Gross of Sherdog. Take the forums for what they are...lots of good info/people/pro fighters surrounded by some people that are ignorant about the sport or just trolling for reactions...

They were meant to address the pointless smack that you were throwing around. Logic would be what supports my opinion. If you have a different opinion than me, that's cool. I'd love to hear it. They didn't help Tim Sylvia, Stefan Bonnar, Kimo, Josh Barnett, etc. Pride definitely has a steriod problem that needs to be addressed but this is not exclusive to that particular org. From this fan's perspective, Pride seems to have the worst problem. I mean 2 positive tests plus Randleman's illegitimate urine sample, all at one event?! That's horrible. They will need to clean it up to gain credibility with American fans who they are trying to win over.

I'm sure there are more guys in Pride that are on steroids or other banned substances since there isn't testing, but it might not be as bad as it seems. I'm sure there are UFC guys that do cycles and know how to mask certain things to keep from getting busted. And I'm sure there are guys that take a chance since everybody isn't tested for each event (ie, Stephan Bonnar). The Pride guys probably aren't as versed in the "art" of beating the system as guys in the US are.

But I agree, they'll need to get the number of failed tests down in the US. I don't give a damn personally, but I know it needs to be done for the advancement of the sport.

What's terrible is that two of the three Pride guys who failed the steroid tests (Randleman and Belfort) have fought in the states and KNEW they might be tested. That makes them especially dumb.

LEONARD

Yea, I think Vitor and Randleman KNEW they needed an advantage and acted desperately. Nastula might not have known what he was getting into, but he's been given a raw deal with his matchups so far, so it's not surprising that he would do something drastic too...

At least all 3 lost...

Here's a good Brandon Vera interview...

http://www.mmanews.com/ufc/Awesome-Pre-UFC-65-Brandon-Vera-Interview-[Part-1].html

At least Vera knows he can't hang with Fedor right now...

MMANews.com: Now, shifting gears a little bit here. There's a lot of people criticising the UFC's heavyweight division. They call it probably one of the weakest divisions. What is your take on that, do you agree or disagree?

Brandon Vera: I disagree. I disagree. I have a goal, either 2008 or 2009 is to be able to beat Fedor. I know I'm not on his level yet, but that is my goal. For next year I need to work on myself, but 2008 or 2009 my goal is to beat Fedor and let everyone know the UFC heavyweight division is what it is. I mean, granted everyone keeps hyping up these certain guys, like Cheick Kongo, because he's a good kickboxer, then he gets smashed by a wrestler. I just don't think we have enough well rounded fighters yet, but we're getting there. And the UFC is starting to improve more and more for that purpose. I would love to fight [Antonio Rodrigo] Nogueira, Shogun [Mauricio Rua], man Vanderlei [Silva] any of those PRIDE guys. I'm not scared of those guys, the only guy I'm nervous about fighting is Fedor because I have not found a hole in his game yet. I watch all his fights over and over again, there's nothing, he doesn't make a mistake. He hasn't made a mistake yet.

MMANews.com: We talked about him last time and obviously you have a great deal of respect for him.

Brandon Vera: Yeah.

MMANews.com: Do you think he'll still be undefeated in 2009 [laughs]?

Brandon Vera: Honestly, 2008 I think he'll still be undefeated. Nobody will beat him next year. The only guy I think could beat him in that time is Mark Hunt and then even then Fedor knows if he's fighting Mark Hunt he's going to go to the ground with him.

MMANews.com: I think it'd look a lot like Josh Barnett and Hunt.

Brandon Vera: Yeah, man that pissed me off. I was hoping they was going to bang. Josh is one of my favorite fighters, to see him and Hunt bang? Shit, I'd love to watch them do that for three rounds - could you imagine?

and I think Nog, Shogun, Silva, etc (he didn't mention Crocop) would all handle him easily right now.

and about Tim Sylvia...

WrestlingInc.com: The reason I asked you that because obviously the last time we talked you had some choice words for Sylvia. Now that of course dates back to when you first came into the company and you said he was talking bad about you. Now, you said you wanted to break his leg.

Brandon Vera: Oh yeah, that's still gonna happen. That's still one of my goals if me and Tim can get a fight, I'm gonna chop one of his legs off. I mean it's calmed down a lot, he was talking a lot of smack about me, now he kinda left me alone.

I'd love to see Vera kick a hole in Tim's goofy legs...

The truth is I think that there really arent any great HW in the UFC. I think that most of the UFC fighters are inferior to Prides, just look how fast Anderson Silva got a belt from one of the supposedly top guys in UFC. There is probably 4 or 5 HW in Pride that could come over and win the belt, Alex is just smart because he is beating them to the beating of Sylvia

I think AA is the most talented HW by far in the UFC. In my opinion, he was way too passive in his last fight w/ Sylvia. I was waiting for him to take Tim down and submit him. I think he respects Tim to much for his own good. I do not doubt he will be champ again.

Why do you think he has a weak chin? He got hit hard by big Tim. I don't know many who that punch wouldn't have stunned.

I think he would. He just has to toughen up and get way more aggresive with getting him to the ground.

That fight being boring was AA's fault. Sylvia fought a smart fight and won on points. He wanted no part of AA's ground game. That's why AA should have shot in and taken down and subbed him.
