Groundation just released their latest album "Upon the Bridge". I would strongly recommend picking it up. Easily the best reggae group since Bob Marley and the Wailers, and it looks like each of their albums grows stronger and stronger.

"Upon the Bridge is the individual's journey beyond their known world to a bridge of mythic proportion. In their search of hope and prosperity the individual must make the journey across the bridge leading them to an unknown future."

And yes Lee, I enjoy the Congos.
Groundation's record company Young Tree actually picked the Congos up and helped with their newest album "Give them the Rights".

Great fucking show.
Some shitty local ska band full of 15 year olds was the first band I saw and they kind of sucked. Meta Diya came on next and blew the stage up. He's a great performer.
Clinton Fearon came up next and played for an hour and a half. He's a fucking legend and his music clearly shows why. I recommend anyone in the Austin area go check it out tonight. Except Horry. You are gay.

my brother and his gf are going to the austin show - supposedly they have some decent bands opening they have heard before on the radio - UT radio has a weekly hour long reggae show called "Jamaican Gold" and they usually play pretty quality stuff.

Coincidentally, Jaws started the trend for the wearing of grills on the teeth.

Coincidentally, Jaws started the trend for the wearing of grills on the teeth. And Oddjob was a pioneer who made many strides towards the universal popularity of killing people with a hat.
Sadly, that has not yet caught on with the hip hop community.

They play a shitload of Sean Paul on Reggae Riddems Sirius 32. I wish they wouldn't because I feel he is more hip-hop than reggae.
I dig that channel though. They play a good amount of roots and rocksteady tunes.

don't get me wrong, i like it too. i just question some of the stuff they put on there that makes me change channels immediately - they play some really good stuff like dennis brown, culture, tosh, wailers, etc. can't really complain about too much though, texas radio doesn't have shit in the way of roots stuff. one hour a week here in austin on the college radio station.

Yeah, that is something else when he bends his voice like that.
I just picked up King Tubby meets Jacob Miller in a Tenament Yard. Wow. I've only been able to find it on itunes though. These two together are amazing.

Fat Freddy's Drop- "Based on a True Story"
They're a reggae band out of New Zealand and are pretty sweet. If anything, just download their first song off of itunes "Ernie" and then decide from there. This song is a jam.

Ok,
Got another recommendation. Not exactly reggae, but fucking delicious none the less.
Josh Martinez- "Buck Up Princess"
Check out these samples here: Nightmares, Blaze of Grey, Uphill Climb, Hobo's Lullaby, Forged, Theories, Rainy Day, Another Day, Another Dollar.
(these samples will give you a good idea how brilliant this album is)
http://www.amazon.com/Buck-Up-Princess-Josh-Martinez/dp/B0000TPBK0/sr=8-1/qid=1164830203/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/105-6103212-6507600?ie=UTF8&s=music
Now I guess you'd technically classify this as hiphop, but Martinez goes far beyond that boundary. And don't sleep on this album if you don't like hiphop, seriously, my mom digs more than a few songs on this album. This album has sooooooo many great songs, and the way Josh presents them is addicting. You will be caught up in his style of delivery instantly. Give it a listen and let me know what you think. Again, do not sleep on music of this quality.
