View Full Version : Anyone miss Rasho or Nazr

Me neither. ...and I doubt we will.

Oberto can not only hit free throw jumper like Rasho but can play under the basket and make layups and Defense seems to be just as good.

Elson can actually catch the ball and Dunk better than Nazr and he is not as slow as a turtle to get down the court.

And all of this at a much more discounted rate.

Can anyone remember Rasho putting up 22 and 10 with Duncan in the lineup?

I remember some good games when TD was out with injury.

Usually when the Spurs lose players that actually got minutes, there is quite a large proportion of fans saying they want "so and so" back. It happened with Malik Rose, Stephen Jackson, Devin Brown, Derek Anderson, Kevin Willis, Hedo (kinda) and a bunch of other players who hardly contributed to the Spurs such as Marks, LJIII etc.

It really is quite amazing that there is virtually no one out there missing Rasho or Nazr :lol

Nazr Had No Ball Handeling Skills At All, He Couldn't Catch A Cold! And Rasho At Times, Looked Like A Giant Turd Out There. Oberto And Elson Go Hard Every Single Night So Far. And Oberto Was A Beast Last Night, Not Only His Scoring But I Was Pretty Impressed With His Rebounding And Defense.

Rasho Was A Weak Ass Center Who Couldnt Score, He Just Took Up Space....nazr Was Alright But Elson And Oberto Are Doing What Both Those Bustas Couldnt Do....score And Swat

The kind of garbage points and low-block hustle plays and rebounding that Fabri did so effectively against PHX are exactly the work I expected Rasho to do. Fabri is below avg in athleticism, hops, etc, but he's knows how to contribute within his workman's limits. Pop must be thrilled.

While I don't think Nazr has the BB IQ or hands or court sense to do what Fabri did last night, I'm pretty that Rasho could, and it remains a mystery why he just didn't do it for us.

If Fabri's man tries to double on Tim, Fabri knows where he should be down low and Tim knows he has to look for Fabri open down there.

Now if only our backcourt guys could start hitting their layups again the way Fabri hits his put-ins. Tony's layups last season were money, but this year his layup not nearly so reliable. He needs up his concentration when shooting layups, I guess.

If you missed it @MSG, watch Malik @ATT Saturday (if he plays). He has really gotten fat.

I think Rasho averaged 18 and 10 when Tim was out. I always had high hopes for him it looked like that run would give him all the confidence he needed but when Tim came back, he took is deference to Tim to another level and was practically invisible on the court.

But I think we'll miss him when we come up against teams with big centers in the classic sense with traditional strong post up games. But his contract was too much to pay for a big body and five fouls. He had the offensive skills but just refused to use them.

Not so far. I like this tandem for what they can do to complement each other while doing their own thing. Looks good to me.:hungry:

These guys just have everything our other guys didn't. Between Nazr and Rasho you had a decent player, they complimented eachother, but Elson and Oberto have it all just about, they both have better hands than Nazr, and better outside jumpers, while they both finish better than Rasho, Elson with dunks, and Oberto with supreme finesse. Both guys are faster than Nazr or Rasho, and both rebound just as well, although Oberto doesn't block shots as well, Elson certainly does...

If Rasho was making like $2M a year, he would be a useful bench player that you could throw on the bigger centers in the league. But reality is he was making four times that, so he had to go.

I want to see how the Spurs handle playing Houston and Miami with Yao and Shaq in the middle before I give this center combo an A+. So far, so good.

It's funny that AHF still can't let go of Baby Hakeem and his 10 and 10 he was going to give the Spurs. He's like the ploto of Nazr.

That's probably the biggest concern with them, but then again:

Rasho played them pretty well, but it's not like he was their stopper or anything of the sort, and it's not like any current center is utterly incapable of playing against them, at least not with some team help.
Shaq is progressively slowing down, and when it really matters you could only face him in the finals, which IMO more likely than not won't be the case.
Yao plays for the Rockets, and bad matchup or not I don't think they have what it takes to run away with a 7 games series because of it.

So at least to me it feels like a reasonable gamble, one worth taking... all in all, I'm still much more worried about other matchups than those two.

From "Perimeter Shooting" by Paul Forrester of SI.com:

4. Big Ben in Chicago: Watch a Pistons game and tell me you aren't waiting for Ben Wallace to check into the game and swat some shots. Yet he never seems to show up. All you get is Nazr Mohammed and a team that looks like it might have trouble winning 50 games.

The argument wasn't whether Nazr could average 10 and 10 ... hell he already did that for the Hawks. It was whether he could do it in San Antonio. You said he could and I said no way.

Nazr 9.6p/7.6r

Oberto 9.2p/6.6r for about half the price.

I don't miss either of our assclown tandem 2-headed center from last year, not even a bit.

I'm not going to "slam" our previous two-headed center monster of Rasho/NAzr. After all, they did help us win a title - especially Nazr. I'll just say I don't recall ever having as much positive banter about them on consecutive weeks.

There's no question the Oberto/Elson tandem have out performed many of our collective expectations so far. While it's still early, they're off to a fantastic start.

As to the question of whether I miss the Rasho/Oberto tandem - HELL NO!

Rasho should have taken steroids, solely for the rage effect.

minus all of Nazr's screw ups that don't show in the boxscore

plus room for improvement, since unlike Nazr and Rasho who were NBA and Spurs' veterans, Oberto is just recently catching on to the league and Elson to the Spurs, and the momentarily forgotten Butler still has to go through it all.

Of course, everyone realizes our centers aren't going to be shooting a combined 85% for the year, right? Which means, over the long term, we may end up with less scoring from the 5 than we had previously been getting.

Not that the points are what matters from that position.
