Hey there y'all!

Some of you might know that I visited SA for a month in March-April 2003. I saw 12 games at SBC from awesome seats, stayed near the Medical Centre, and met a fantastic bunch of people, many of whom are now the core of Spurstalk.

So anyway, my lanky self is coming back to SA in January from the 12th to about the 29th (5 home games, 4 away), and I thought I'd start a thread here for suggestions about what I should get up to while I'm in SA.

Some of my ideas:
*visit the Carver Academy and meet David (I will write to him this week and cross my fingers)
*eat LOTS of mex and texmex food (that's a given), especially breakfast burritos
*have a Spurstalk GTG of some sort
*head out on a date or two (ladies...?)
*have a poker tournament (are there poker rooms/casinos in SA?)
*see more of SA - I've seen a lot of the centre, north and north west, but not the rest
*check out the SA music scene (I'm keen to go to a hip hop gig, something latino, and if there is a progressive electronica scene in SA, some of that too)
*I would play some pickup ball, but my ankles are such a mess that I may have to forgo that this time... but horse is always good!

I would also like to get out into the hill country to some sort of resort/spa/ranch relaxation - maybe involving some hiking or horseriding or something. Can anyone recommend a place like that?

Also, is there anything else around SA within a day's drive that I really should check out?

All suggestions or comments appreciated.

I'm so excited to be coming back to you wonderful people and your fantastic town!

Sounds like you are planning a fun trip. The Riverwalk is a nice place to visit.

enchanted rock is pretty neat and fairly close:

Angel - yeah, I love the Riverwalk. Thought I'd spend the last few nights staying in town and have some fun there.

However, for most of the time I think I'll stay near the Medical Centre again. I liked the area.

Anyone suggest a better area to stay than the Med Centre area?

lee - looks good, I'll put that on the list.

Oh, and maybe I'll head up to Austin for a night or two as well, so any suggestions about Austin are also good.

If you want a good music scene, then you should probably head up to Austin for a day or two. San Antonio's music scene is pretty damn weak.

If you stay in the Medical center, we can do lunch, I work down the street.

If you go to Austin, be sure to go to 6th St, check out the Warehouse District, and walk the Drag.

leemajors suggested Enchanted Rock and I'm going to second that notion.

the drag is horribly depressing without sound exchange. it was cool when they cleared out all the bums, but sound exchange was the best, albeit B.O. smelling, record store i have ever set foot in. half of my CDs and Lp's came from there. now it's some stupid baja fresh fast food place. :depressed

Hey katy, that sounds great, I'd love to have lunch with you! I'll be in touch. ;)

Yeah, think I will stay around there again as it seemed pretty safe and friendly, and a lot of people from here live in the north. Also, there is a Taco Cabana and a Whataburger just up the road, a great Mexican place down the hill, and a cool little bar called the Oak Hills Tavern where I met many a crazy local last time. :D

Austin has more live music venues per capita than any other cityin America - there are something like 90 places you can go for live music. Yeah, I think I'll head up there for a weekend to catch some tunes.

I can't wait for this. SA is my home away from home. :fro

Oak Hills Tavern? I hang out there a lot.. I wonder if I was one of the crazies you met last time! :lol

Probably! ;)

Is Tim still running the place? And the tall blonde barmaid, what's her name? I'm interested to see how it's changed in three years.

Hahaha, I don't know the owner but all the bartenders that have been there last few times I went were brunettes and one gay guy.

Sounds like things have changed. Ah well, that's to be expected.

See you there for a drink in Jan?

I was at the Oak Hills Tavern that night... there is a group picture floating around somewhere.

I remember Sequ, I remember that night very well. COld and windy, but good peeps and good times. You're a lot nicer in person than on SpursTalk. :lol ;)

I hung out there at some stage of just about every night I was in SA. Really love that place.

Man, Uni is now over for the year and all I have to do is plan my trip! Yipee! San Antonio, here I come!!! :D

MI21 - it's only $2K for the fare, and another couple thousand for the stay. Get saving my friend, get saving... or win Lotto. I promise you that if I win over $100K in lotto, I will fly you to SA.
