I saw that the new PS3 is Blue Ray Compatible, does that make it capable of playing Blue ray dvd's?

is that a Yes?
A Blue ray player costs $900 and a PS3 is only like $600 so i'm looking at killing 2 birds with one stone.

Yeah... of course. It also looks like a George Foreman Grill, and it gets hot enough to cook a steak just as well.

I saw a bunch of Gamers posts here and thought I might get a straight answer, I guess not.

Yes, I am pretty sure it does. And I am pretty sure that damn blu-ray is why the damn thing costs so much.

The Blu Ray costs about 1/3 of what Sony's spending to make that system. The Cell processor is what's driving the cost of that thing through the roof. Sad to see all the games for it are going to suck for a while, because the hardware smokes the XBox 360.

Unless you plan on starting to camp out this Wednesday, or waiting until next September, it's going to cost you a lot more than $600 for a PS3.

There's not even a comparison. I've used both of them, and the PS3 gets way hotter. A few PS3s can seriously heat a room. I'm not joking at all when I say that either,

$600 is a lot for a gaming system. I'd like one but there's no way I'm sleeping outside a Best Buy or EB Games for a few days to get one.

ps3 looks like a good investment where i think the ps3 should last at least 10 years, as compared investing into a 8800gtx card.....where new graphic cards come out every half a year..

If you want to start comparing what you can do on a computer running Windows or Linux vs. a gaming console ... I suggest you go join this guy in line.

BTW, this was very obvious question that could be answered by the wonderful site of www.google.com (http://www.google.com)

Um, what? No technology comes off the shelf with a ten year expected lifespan. The machine may survive, but they sure as shit won't be releasing any new games for it. Gaming companies usually stop after 3-4 yrs. to develop for the NEXT platform.

Um.. no. PS2 has been around 6 years, and there are still great games being released for it now... and the PS2 was never that good of hardware. Certainly not anything even approaching the jump in technology that the PS3 is over the other consoles. The PS3 should have a pretty long lifespan.

I thought about that but then remembered last year for 360 they did a raffle. So even if I went there that morning there's not a chance I get one.

That would be the dummy move of the year. The 360 is so much better for gaming than the PS3 right now, it's not even close. The PS3 has one great game, Resistance, but until Metal Gear Solid 4 and Lair come out, the 360 is far and away superior from a gamer's perspective.

^ I guess another question is over the lifespan of each system, how many quality games will come out for each system? Having already bought a 360, I 've already written down a list of games that I'm interested in coming out this fall and through 2007. The list stands right now at about 35 games. There is no way in freakin' hell I'm going to play and finish all those games by the time 2007 is up, but I'll keep gradually buying and playing through games as I go along. My main point is that whatever system you choose, you'll have plenty of high quality titles to both choose from and keep you occupied playing for a LONG time. In my case, I've gone with the 360 because it was cheaper and will have/has a solid library of games. I'm sure the PS3 will have a nice lineup of games as well, I just can't see that there will be this huge difference in graphics, gameplay, online play, etc. between the two systems. One system for me is more than enough to keep me occupied for the next 4-5 years. :fro
