NBA commissioner David Stern, after reviewing the case, hands down a severe punishment to Knicks coach Isiah Thomas for Thomas' outburst, directed at Bruce Bowen, during the Spurs' 100-92 victory.

Late in the first quarter, Thomas went on a profanity-laced tirade against Bowen, under a league investigation for a dirty undercut of Steve Francis on Monday that put Francis on the shelf indefinitely with a sprained ankle.

Thomas was not going to let Jamal Crawford go down with a similar injury. So when Crawford missed a 3-pointer with 3:46 left in the first quarter and Bowen appeared to put his foot under him, Thomas exploded, even though there was no contact, no harm, no foul.

David Stern has deemed Thomas' actions inappropriate, and responded with the following edict:

"Coach Thomas has gone over the line with his statements regarding Bruce Bowen and now as punishment, will have to continue coaching the New York Knicks for the remainder of the 06-07 season." "My decision is final."

Isiah Thomas was not available for comment.

It's more of a punishment to the team for him to coach. That's not really fair.

I don't know if this has been posted already. But the other day Jim Rome had me laughing my @$$ off. He said he was on Thomas's side on this one. I mean what coach doen't fire up his team with those types of comments. Stuff like, ''play some 'd' guys'', ''get back on the fast break'', ''get the rebound'' or ''break his f..king foot''. That's just a coach being a coach right. It was really funny.

If I were Isiah I would have reacted the same way. How many times is Bowen going to get away with his dirty play before someone does something about. Good for Isiah!!!

That may be...but anyone with eyes can see the Bowen is a dirty player and has been using that trick for years. It has to stop and I hope someone smashes his face in to stop it.
