View Full Version : Video of UCLA kid gettin a taser in the library. Police "abuse" or justified?

It's all over the web, surprised it hasn't been posted. The LAPD is already gettin more heat than usual lately, this won't help. I like how the kid yells, "This is your Patriot Act!" How dramatic. All he had to do was walk out of the library. I think both parties could have done things differently. He sounded like a lunatic before he even got the taser.

You watch the vid, you decide.

Basic story: Kid doesn't have a Bruin card, so he can't be in the library, the police escort him out and one of the policemen take hold of his arm...then the vid starts.

Moral of the story: DO NOT forget your bruin card.

Edit: ha, if you have time, check out THIS guys reaction to the video above! How would you like to sit next to HIM at a Spurs game...(assuming there is police brutality at the Spurs game)

Abuse.

4 or 5 officers there and they want to tazer him 5 or 6 times becasue he forgot his student ID? handcuff and escort out of the building if the situation had gotton so oput of control.
and the fact that they just expected him to stand up after he;d been tazered 1/2 a dozen times like nothing had happend.
the whole incident is ridicules. I had no idea UCLA was a policestate.

You can't really see much of whats going on, but at what point do you put it on the kid? The guy was obviously being very dramatic, but I'm not sure how much of an ability he had to stand up either way.

One thing is for sure, you don't get to give police orders. You don't get to tell "not to touch you". It seems to me that they should have called for backup and stopped pushing the issue considering the size and emotion of the group around them. They nearly started a riot because they wanted to force their will on the kid.

I don't know, but my gut says the kid carries more of the blame. I don't think the officers did anything to abuse their power, but I don't think they handled it in the smartest manner either.

"This is your patriot act"? Com'on now, I hate the Patriot Act, but what a stupid way to invoke abuse of power. Pre Patriot Act police were allowed to use force when someone was resisting.

The problem with videos like this is how out of context they are. You don't see much of what led up to the situation (or in this case what actually is going on).

From what I read the kid got nuked because he wouldn't cooperate and a large crowd was forming and he was asking/inciting them to "protest" or whatever he was griping about.

Completely the dumbass' fault! if he had just left when they asked him to, none of that would have happened. I find it hard to believe the officers just started tasering him without first asking him to leave the premises.

The dude just wanted some attention... well, he got attention and a 300 kV shock

After the first hit dropped him and he was in cuffs, I don't see how they can justify the next 4 as reasonable to make an arrest.

I can't stand those type of guys (the kid that got tasered) but why couldn't the cops just pick him up. There was like 4 for them and a buck-50 kid. If he's that much trouble, just pick him up and take him to the car.

The cops are lucky this happened at the UCLA library. Only thing that stopped it from being a riot is the fact that nerds don't riot.

I wonder how much things would be different if it were a black kid?

I wonder how much things would be different if it were a black kid?I think one of the cops was black, so I don't think they could call it racism.

Well, from the kids name I don't think he was white. He seemed of Indian/Arabian/Persian descent.

I like how after they give him about 5 shots from the tazer, they carry him out. They could have done that after 1. Then they start threatening the crowd at the end with using the tazer on them...although the guy they said it too that was blatant was the guy who was in the cops faces for the better part of a couple minutes.

The kid was Iranian which now explains why he tried to pull the Patriot Act card. I was wondering how the hell the Patriot Act got involved.

For being such a drama queen they should have tasered him a couple more times.

Eh...I spend a lot of time at University of Tennessee library, and had it been there I can almost promise you that I would have ended up tackling the pigs. That shit pisses me off.

Police, unless in danger or preventing danger to others, should not be allowed to act any differently than the rest of us.
