Suns' Nash misses game with back spasms

November 17, 2006

PHOENIX (AP) -- Steve Nash, the two-time NBA MVP, sat out the Suns' game against the Philadelphia 76ers on Friday night because of lower back spasms.

Nash, the league leader with 10.9 assists per game, also is doubtful for Saturday night's game at Utah, coach Mike D'Antoni said.

"We'll see if he responds to treatment," D'Antoni said.

The coach said Nash, who has been bothered by chronic back problems, tweaked his back Monday during practice and awoke Thursday with more spasms.

"He woke up again this morning and he was still hurting," D'Antoni said.

Nash is third on the Suns in scoring (18.7) and is among the league leaders in free throw percentage (.905).

He was replaced in the starting lineup by Leandro Barbosa.

Nash's back finally acting up on him. There's a reason why Mark didn't pay that extra money. An injury prone point guard that is breaking down isn't worth it.

Nash has had certain physical problems the last few years, but nothing that's kept him out of more than a couple of games per season. I wouldn't call him injury prone.

Cuban chose not to pay for a stellar point guard with lingering injuries, and the Suns paid for a 2-time MVP. Worked out for both parties. :)

Barbosa with 26 pts, 10 rebs, 5 stl, 3 ast. Amare with 23 and 10, through 37 minutes. Suns' offense looked great even with Nash out of the game. It'll be interesting to see how they respond against the Jazz.
