You guys do understand that you just lost . . . to the Knicks . . . by a zillion points . . . at home?

ShoogarBear
11-18-2006, 09:38 AM
No, the Spurs just beat the Bulls . . . who bent the Heat over on Ring Night.

Spurs are 2-0 against the Knicks.

Spurs are 7-2 on the year in the West.
Heat are 3-5 in the NBDL.

Heat are being outscored by an average of 10 points per game.

Heat have lost three home games by > 20 points.

And the Heat are defending NBA champs (i.e., "best in the league").

I really watch NBA basketball just for the opportunity to see Dwayne Wade shoot free throws. As far as I'm concerned, the league should just give Wade 50 free throws every night and I'll be good.

Plus, the paragon of entertainment, without a doubt, is watching a team that has the title in its hands implode and then give up.

The NBA would be best if it polled all fans to see which team they want to win, and then make things happen to ensure that team wins. Popularity is far more significant than playing good basketball.

Miami won that title because Wade got on an ungodly hot streak for the final two rounds of the playoffs. It'll take even more from him for them to win it again with the way Shaq is falling off and another year of wear and tear on Mourning and Payton also. Still, those final two rounds were amazing last year, and even though I hate the Heat as long as Shaq is still there, I gotta give props to them for handing Dallas what might be the most humiliating Finals loss in NBA history. :lol

The ratings were up last year, but I guess that isn't saying much because they were up from a few of the worst rated Finals in the history of the NBA. Somebody was watching, but it may not have been Piston and Spurs fans. IMO, it was the best playoffs in years, and the best finals.

The 03-04 Spurs were a completely different team from the one that won the championship the previous year. Robinson, Kerr, and Ferry were gone and Rasho and Hedo were there. If you remember, Pop didn't even allow them to use the words "Defending Champs" in introductions or on the web site.

Wade was SOOOOOOO smart to only extend until 2010.

Anyone want to bet that Riles "retires" yet again, back to the front office?

I don't know if the Heat were a fluke, but they definitely didn't enter this past season prepared to defend their title.

a)You had players coming into training camp out of shape. b) You had a team not ready to play opening night. c) The Heat never really got into a groove since they were never able to keep their entire roster healthy for any stretch of the season. Shaq and Wade missed large chunks of the season. d) Riley had health problems so he couldn't coach effectively the entire season. The list goes on and on.

The Heat did play well for awhile and were able to win the Atlantic, but that's no major accomplishment since the division was crappy all season. Then, when Wade came back in early April, it's almost like he killed the chemistry of the team since guys like Antoine Walker and Eddie Jones couldn't play more prominent roles like they were during his absence when the Heat were playing well.

With all the problems the Heat had this season, it shouldn't come as a surprise that they were easily dispatched in the first round. It's just not an easy thing to just flip a switch when the postseason begins. Teams with better regular season success usually rise to the top in the postseason...except for maybe a certain team in Texas.
