View Full Version : Texas A&M @ Texas

time: 10am MT
venue: Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium

thoughts: Texas has had a good year thus far with losses only to the #1 team and a shootout with k-state. A&M's year, though improved from last, has still been somewhat of a downer especially in recent weeks with back2back losses @ home by 1 point. most t-sips believe A&M cannot run on their defense...not only will they run on them, but they will run all over them with McGee making timely passes and the defense doing just enough.
prediction:
Texas A&M 27
t.u. 26

Hey...you have your prediction, I have mine. Don't criticize mine because it differs.
A&M was founded first, 1876 I believe. I think Texas was founded in 1883. Not sure on the dates but I do know Texas Agricultural and Mechanical College was started first.

It can't be wrong. Its a prediction and not fact.
Now...if my prediction proves incorrect, I will be here to give the appriopriate credit and I hope other Longhorn fans will follow suit.
My questions is....will Aggie fans do the same if my prediction turns out to be correct. :)

I've tried to look everywhere, but nothing is telling me McCoy will be 100%, or even starting for that matter. If he starts, Texas will roll. If Snead starts, Texas will still win, but may not cover the 12.5pt spread. On Mack Brown's web site, it shows the depth charts for the game, and it has McCoy as the starter, but I have not been able to verify concretely.
Texas has played tough at home all year. Their only loss was against the #1 team in the country. Even in the loss, if you look at the stats in that game, you'd see they were just about even. Other than that, Texas has POUNDED (with a capital "P") the opposition into the ground at home by 36pts or more (not counting tOSU). Their MOV - including Ohio State - is almost +28 pts. Take out Ohio State and SHSU and their MOV at home is almost +33 pts.
Texas' strength on defenese is against the run. But just as good as their run defense is, their pass defense sucks. However, by far and large, their biggest pass defense blunders have been on the road. At home, they seem like a different animal. They'll allow for the occasional big play, but seem to be more cohesive at home.
TAMU has had the luxary of playing most of their games at home (where they've struggled at times). Interestingly, though, they are 3-0 on the road (against some less formidable opponents, tho). They are a balanced team relying on the run, but can and do throw a good deal of the time. I suspect Franchione will adjust his play calling to include more short-to-mid range passes, screens, and the occasional trick/long pass that seems to give Texas fits. Ifigure they may even score a couple of times doing this.
If this were in College Station, I would predict an upset. We all saw last year how significant home field advantage is in this rivalry. However, I firmly believe Texas takes this game - alot, if McCoy starts, or just enough if he doesn't. I figure he'll start, so I'll take Texas SU and ATS.
Texas 42
A&M 24

And no, Aggie fan, I am not just talking about you...there are UT fans who do it as well.

I am glad you are picking the Ags....you picked them the last two weeks. :smokin
I know quite a few actual Ags (people who attended the school) as well as those who are just fans and until I moved I watched the game with them every year and as much as it pained them, when UT won...they were sportsman enough to give props and I think most Ags are like that and if the Ags win...I will be among the first to tip my Burnt Orange cap and recognize the better team but my question still stands my friend....if UT pulls out the win, will you do the same?

I agree to a point. I think the team that wins is the better team on that day. If A&M wins, IMO, they will be the better team and as a good sport, I will give the credit where it is due.

i'm not avoiding anything. it's simple: if A&M wins they rose to the occasion and beat a team that was better than them. if t.u. wins, as they should at home, well...the better team won. i don't understand why there needs to be more than that...

^Everything I've read to this point indicates that Colt will start and is 100% healthy and ready to go. J. Blalock is also good to go as well. Should be a great game, definitely looking forward to getting to our tailgating spot at about 7:30am and starting up with some Bloody Mary's and a few shots for breakfast. Hopefully I'll sober up before the game is over so that I can drive home!
I do really think that the time off will be a big help to our team, we've been banged up all season and needed a little rest to get more healthy. I think this is going to be a back and forth game, and I hope to God our secondary is up to the challenge. They need to play like they did against Ok. State, and they sure as hell can't underestimate the a&m running game. It's going to take a complete team effort on defense to contain those guys. I do think with Colt back our offense should be rolling, might take a series or two, but by the end of the 1st quarter they should be getting into a good flow. It's going to be a great game with two long time rivals going at it, one of the reasons I love college football.
Final: Texas- 31

As an Aggie, I'd love to see A&M win
BUT
the more losses there are and the worse they are, the sooner Fran's sorry lying ass is canned, and the sooner A&M might be turned around to a respectable football program. So I hope Texas blows em out on Friday, and I hope Fran gets thoroughly embarassed in whatever bowl game they might be in, so maybe, just MAYBE, some of the big-money alum will suck it up, admit they were wrong in pressuring TAMU to fire Slocum and get this joke of a coach in the first place, and get his ass out of there.
samikeyp
11-21-2006, 11:40 AM
I thought getting rid of Slocum was bad enough but bringing in Fran was worse. They need a big time coach in there who will pound the recruiting trail. Right now Mack Brown owns this state, Fran is not the man to get that back for the Aggies.

I think it also depends on the person or persons you are competing against. Some of the fiercest games I have been involved in have been with close friends. A bunch of guys I used to play ball with regularly back in the day...we were all like brothers and no matter the sport, we used to beat the crap out of each other and even got into the occasional scuffle. IMO UT will win now that Colt & Blalock are in.
Cover the spread of 13pts, not so sure but win, yes.
IMO UT will cover the spread but there is always trash time where a team can score a TD with secs or 1min left & screw you hard. Trash time is even more dangerous in a rivalry game with more than a 3pt spread.

I just had a thought, after reading page 2 with the fire coach Fran blogs.
I can see this scenario happening:
UT totally dickslaps A&M, scoring an easy first touchdown that sets the tone for hte rest of hte game. Like a kickoff return or a defensive touchdown. Texas goes on to win 45 13.
Later after the game, aggies revolt, and coach fran rumored to be getting fired the next week. After the big twelve title game, rumors surface of fran seriously about to be fired and a possible choice for his replacement is GENE CHIZIK. After bowl season the rumors are confirmed, stupid franny goes bye bye and gene chizik is the new a&m head coach.
It could happen. And it would suck.

Ouch.
This is what I love about the UT/A&M rivalry. You never know who is going to win most of the time. Still a decent season for UT. But you could tell that A&M considered this their "Bowl game."

Colt throws a late INT that seals the game. After the play is over, an A&M player runs McCoy into the ground with a kind of "in your face" attitude. McCoy does his best to act injured, and the A&M player gets ejected.

I couldn't see the game...what happened?
Colt threw an INT & an ag DL took a V-I-C-I-O-U-S-----C-H-E-A-P shot @ Colt that laid him out for awhile.
ag got ejected but stayed for awhile in the bench area. Didn't leave immed as was supposed to.
Colt came back on the next series to take another cheap shot. A helmet to helmet while Colt was in the air & defenseless.
I am seriously this close to sinking to the level of the ags that cheered & hope for an ag injury or 2 in their bowl game.

It was somewhat a cheap shot. I believe Heard thought Dodge was going to try and return the interception. Well, lo and behold, who happens to be in front of him, Colt McCoy. I believe Heard was putting a block (cheap shot) on McCoy. It came a bit late as Dodge went down pretty quick. I think defensive linemen do this quite a bit. It is probabily viewed as a "free" hit, if you will. Still, it wasn't necessary to go at McCoy that hard. He laid him out.

Lack of passion the entire first half.
Lack of leadership the entire game.
Greg Davis made his token 3rd down calls.
Overall this was hte most horrible showing our boys could possibly put on, and It was sickening to watch. Started and ended almost exactly like the Kstate game. We move the ball like noones business in a fast paced passing attack, then get shut down in the end zone, then lose all confidence on both sides of hte ball--TEXAS PLAYERS SEEMED LIKE THEY DIDNT EVEN CARE TO GIVE THIS GAME A GOOD TRY, then the third quarter we see some passion finally and it is still not enough.

I noticed that as well. Texas really didn't seem to be in it. I think they had there hopes set on the Natl. Championship. But after K-State, they just brokedown. I don't believe having your starting QB hurt helps either. It just wasn't their day. They didn't want it to be their day.
As to the late hit, the ball was just intercepted. McCoy REMOVED hit helmet BEFORE THE WHISTLE WAS BLOWN. Big....I REPEAT....Big NO-NO.....That is part of the reason the NFL has certain rules in place regarding removal of helmet on the field. I thought college football did, but maybe not. Many are right, he could have been seriously injured. Next time, keep your helmet on until your at the sideline. I'm not applauding, nor condeming, the intent of hitting McCoy, but rather the level of intesity. Heard knew who he was hitting. So in that case, it's a little cheap. But I don't believe he purposely went out of his way after the play ended to cause injury. The replay did Heard no justice, much in part because you could not see the timing at which the hit took place. He should go a little easier, but when your out there, your addreline rushing, young players, sometimes we make mistakes. I don't believe this was what caused McCoy's injury. That happened awhile back. McCoy needs to put on serious weight. He looks like a stick out there. If he doesn't I don't believe he will come in as the starter next year. Best of wishes to Colt.

He was reaching up for his straps but never actually came close to removing it, the hit was ridiculously late though. Sad.
It was the secon dhit though, he grabbed his shoulder and looked dazed, probably a concussion + more shoulder/neck damage.
Its not hte fact that we lost that pisses me off its how we lost. Texas seriously had nooooo intensity in the entire first half, and when they got a spark in the third the aggies pulled off a masterful 10 minute fucking drive that resulted in 6 points. Sad day for the horns. Our team just got set back years.

If you wish to talk karma, speak no more....Let's look at last year's squad. I believe half of our team was out with an injury during some part of the year. Granted not all at once, some just nagging injuries. Let alone, recieving the biggest waste of talent in Reggie McNeal. If that's not bad karma, I'm not sure what is. No offense, but McNeal was superior talent wise than Young. The DIFFERENCE though, Young had leadership skills. I guess it's something your born with. I believe McGee has those same leadership qualties as Young. Hopefully, no bad karma, but lesson's learned. I agree he didn't quite have his helmet off, I was speaking more to the action of. Had he had his helmet off and the hit would have occurred, then yes that would have been "Dirty" or "Cheap". But until that whistle blows, which I do not believe it had yet once Heard left his feet, then as a player you need to be aware of your surroundings, ESPECIALLY at QB. I don't agree with the intesity of the hit, it was rough. I don't think it called for an ejection. 15 yard penalty, yes, because it was too hard. Heard could easily claim he was blocking, due to interception.

I think I look into things far too much too carry on an intellectual conversation. I don't need name calling to prove my point. I'm not saying the hit was a lapse in judgement, I want to make that clear. But, it was one hit, of many. Was it late, maybe. My point was this. and it is not simply directed at Colt, but anyone, DO LET YOUR GUARD DOWN UNTIL THE WHISTLE HAS BLOWN, whether it be professional, collegiate, highschool, pee-wee, whatever. I think Colt did it out of frustration. I'm not placing any blame on him. It very well may be that I would have done the same. I do not think it was dirty. For it to be dirty, I believe the intent to cause harm would have to be present, which it is not. A lapse of judgement would characterize the situation better, IMHO.

No one, well, at least myself, takes satisfaction in the injury of a player, even our greatest rivals. I remember being upset because I thought Colt would not be able to play against the Aggies. He obviously was able, as he did so today. I wonder though, how heathly he was? I suppose if he's cleared, he's cleared. I don't think Heard had any intention of hurting him, but caught up in the moment, you catch yourself not thinking sometimes.

The fact of the matter is that had the DB not tackled Dodge (who made the INT), Colt McCoy was the only guy between him and the end zone on an INT return.
Colt was stupid to even start thinking about unbuckling his chin strap, and methinks he won't make the same mistake again.
Good to hear he's okay though (released from hospital), I'm still not sure that Mack should have played him today, he didn't look the same as he had earlier in the season.

All comments about dirty or not aside - Kellen Heard is a gigantic idiot and this is his 3rd such penalty in late game situations this season. His idiotic late hit against Zac "No Game" Taylor pretty much cost the Aggies the game outside of Fran's stupid clock management. I just can't believe that when Justin Warren and Mark Dodge are in his face on the sidelines after that dumb hit on Colt, he had the audacity to talk back to them... unacceptable - he needs to accept his punishment like a man and listen to his linebackers.

Even though I sit on the other side of the rivalry....I have the utmost respect for A&M and what their school stands for. I don't believe that one players action is reflective of an entire program. I think the kid used poor judgement and I would imagine his coaches and teammates will take care of that.

Colt was just not there. Hopefully all this uproar will cause people to realize Greg Davis needs to get his fat plump stupid ass out of austin. Even with a 75% colt, we still have a very talented team, and to only put up 7 at home is disgusting. Chizik seemed to be hell bent on not making adjustments either but i haven't rewatched or anything to confirm that.
Davis

Showing all the class that you are.
Who else but Jim would cheer injury & dirty play.
Typical of your kind.
Who is cheering dirty play???? WTF do you get this at all from what I said? The last hit on Colt was not dirty, there was not flag thrown, the play was in no way malicious, and anyone who is using this as an excuse for losing is a fucking whiney titty baby.
And what do you mean by "your kind"? When have I ever not shown class in this forum, or have I ever cheered an injury???
Mr Dio, you can just go fuck yourself, for all I care.
Aggies win, get over it.

I gotta stick up for Jim on this one. We don't always agree and have had our debates but the dude is first class all the way. He just voiced a difference of opinion. I agreed about the last hit. I think a flag should have been thrown because it was helmet to helmet but that alone does not imply intent. No flag was thrown so it doesn't matter anyway...and while I thought the first shot was dirty....neither of those hits were why Texas lost. A lack of effort and intensity combined with much effort and intensity by A&M is what caused this outcome. It sucks for me as a UT fan but its the truth.

Who is fucking crying about this loss????
We waited 7 yrs for this win and all you can do is complain about a so-called late hit or helmut to helmu hit???? How did this affect the game????
:dramaquee
Live with it and stop whinning.
Mike, if this quote by the Old FagGOT Goat doesn't show that he could care less about an injury or dirty play then you are indeed the "bend over" type. Take a man's stance for once Mike and don't try to appease, voice your opinion.
I refuse to bend over for Jim Old Faggot Goat or any other person that doesn't think dirty play & injury should have no place in the game.
And who said it affected the score of the game viejo? :lol Find where I posted that.

I don't care how many championships the Horns have won, what the series record is or anything. I'm just happy the Aggies won. Fuck the Longhorns. I've said that since I was 7 years old and those will be my dying words.

Alabama leads Auburn in all time series.
And look at them.

It wasn't 10 in a row but close. Ags won 10 of 11 from 84 to 94, the only loss in 90 (the Cash twins senior year)
The overall series now stands at 73-35-5 Texas
Since 1980 though....its 14-13 Ags.
that stat is misleading. 81 of those games have been played in Austin.
nice fabrication Its actually only 57 games in Austin (http://football.stassen.com/cgi-bin/records/opp-opp.pl?start=1869&end=2005&team1=Texas&team2=Texas+A%26M)
Overall record in Austin, UT leads 45-11-1
We also have a winning record in your house

Best part about this message board is that it proves Aggie fans have a better grasp of the english language, grammar, and spellcheck than 'horns fans do...

Well the situation is this:
The aggies would be happier with a win over UT during a failure season than if they lost to UT on the way to a big twelve title. Its true.

jgw you're predictions are among the worst in the forum if youre gonna say something like that, at least put some substance behind it to back up your claim
I think they are better. Their D is amazing. But texas is still improving. Thats all I can ask for. If they are on their A game when A&M comes to Austin, I think we have a good shot at winning.

sometimes i'll back them up and sometimes i won't, with analysis. most people either don't understand what i say or don't read it properly so, whatever. but...
yes, t.u. can beat us, of course. they have a good young team this year. i'll pick A&M to win both games, but its definitely possible we could lose. as for my predictions, when i am predicting with my head i think my record speaks for itself. my predictions are bad even if they turn out to be correct, cause i don't say why enough?

Doesnt it limit its zone?

Hmmm just remember last game when Acie Law went awol the FSN announcers kept sayin yall liked to stay man
I was going to say the game will be interesting if that is the case, cuz UT wants you guys to switch to zone so AJ can light it up, if ya'll stay man, then AJ becomes totally useless, and we'll be depending on a HUGE durant offensive showing to beat you.

i am sure some people will come on here and say the Aggs do one or the other. but the truth is Billy mixes it up depending on the opponent, though thats nothing earth shattering.
