LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Larry King Cardiac Foundation brings its mission of "Save a Heart a Day" to Los Angeles with a fundraising gala, Tuesday, Nov. 21 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills. Hosted by Larry King and his wife, Shawn Southwick-King, and emceed by TV personality Mary Hart, "An Evening with Larry King and Friends" honors Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, philanthropists Alfred and Claude Mann, cardiologist Enrique Ostrzega, M.D., and actress Eva Longoria. The event features entertainment by Il Divo, the internationally acclaimed band known for taking opera mainstream, and Ozomatli, a Latin, hip-hop, and rock group. A one-of-a-kind live auction as well as a silent auction will also be included.

"Each of our honorees has played a significant role in reaching out to those most in need in our community, either through hands-on medical attention or their unprecedented support of programs designed to educate the public about the need and subsequent resources for early detection and treatment of heart problems," said Larry King, who founded the organization that bears his name in 1988, following his own successful open-heart surgery.

"An Evening with Larry King and Friends" will raise funds to support the partnership forged earlier this year between the LAC+USC Healthcare Network, COPE Health Solutions, the Los Angeles County division of the American Heart Association, and The Larry King Cardiac Foundation. The four organizations have teamed to provide prevention education and life-saving, interventional cardiac services to the uninsured and low-income population in Los Angeles County.

"This event highlights a partnership that allows us to leverage the resources of each organization to achieve the maximum benefit for patients and community members," said Claudia Bonilla Keller, executive director of the Los Angeles County division of the American Heart Association. "Because we are each doing what we do best, we are better able to reach the Latino community with critical, life-saving awareness and prevention information. We are so grateful to our partners for this tremendous opportunity to save lives."

According to Larry King Jr., president of The Larry King Cardiac Foundation, the partnership is on pace to serve over 75-100 patients annually who require critical, life-saving cardiac care. In addition, the partners hope to reach thousands of individuals in Los Angeles County with preventive health education each year.

"We are so fortunate to be a 'partner' hospital to The Larry King Cardiac Foundation," said Pete Delgado, chief executive officer of LAC+USC Healthcare Network. "This will provide our patients with additional opportunities to address their cardiology and medical needs. For us, it's a great opportunity to expand our cardiac diagnostic and treatment capacity."

COPE Health Solutions, a Los Angeles-based nonprofit organization, forged the partnership between LAC+USC, the American Heart Association and The Larry King Cardiac Foundation that now allows more patients requiring specialty care to receive state-of-the-art cardiac care at the medical center.

"This partnership is critical in terms of providing access to cardiology services for the uninsured," said Allen Miller, COPE Health Solutions' chief executive officer. "LAC+USC Medical Center is one of the country's largest safety-net hospitals and funding from this event will ensure that the medical center and partner community clinics are able to provide the local community with the highest quality of cardiac care possible."

The Larry King Cardiac Foundation, through its partnerships with Cordis Corporation, Medtronic Inc., and St. Jude Medical Inc. and grants from Edwards Lifesciences Corporation and Eli Lilly and Company, provides patients with critical cardiac devices, such as stents, implantable pacemakers, implantable cardioverter defibrillators, and heart valves free of charge. The Larry King Cardiac Foundation is funded from the proceeds of galas, corporate sponsorships, and Larry King's books and speaking engagements.

The partnership is also supported by L.A. Care Health Plan, a community-accountable health plan, through a generous $100,000 grant. "L.A. Care exists to serve the health care needs of Los Angeles County's low-income and vulnerable families," said Howard Kahn, chief executive officer of L.A. Care Health Plan. "Partnering with LAC+USC Hospital, The Larry King Foundation, and COPE Health Solutions to provide prevention education and life-saving cardiac services to uninsured and low-income patients is a natural fit for L.A. Care."
