The Miami Heat may be the defending NBA champions, but the San Antonio Spurs are playing more like champs.

San Antonio looks to win its ninth straight home meeting against a Miami team missing Shaquille O'Neal when the Spurs and Heat face each other Wednesday night at the AT&T Center.

The Spurs (9-2) have won 18 of 19 meetings with the Heat in San Antonio all-time. The lone exception was a 90-79 Miami victory on Dec. 23, 1996.

San Antonio is currently playing well against all opponents as it looks for its fourth straight win. The Spurs will try to improve to 4-2 at home.

San Antonio improved to 6-0 on the road with Monday's 107-98 win over Portland. Tim Duncan scored 13 of his 25 points in the third quarter and Manu Ginobili had 18 of his 25 in the fourth as the Spurs rallied from a 10-point, second-half deficit to win.

"We are really playing better on the road than at home," Ginobili said. "We have a better mentality. We grind games out for 48 minutes."

Ginobili, whose shooting has been inconsistent to start the season, had his best offensive night of the season, shooting 9-for-14 from the field, including 6-for-6 in the fourth quarter.

"I needed a game like this," Ginobili said. "I don't know if it's going to be a turnaround for the whole season, but it's good for my confidence."

Ginobili is averaging 15.9 points and shooting 14-for-27 from 3-point range in eight career games versus Miami.

With O'Neal out of the lineup for up to six weeks after left knee surgery, the 6-foot-11 Duncan has a good chance to improve his career numbers against Miami. Duncan is averaging 20.7 points and 13.2 rebounds in 14 career games against the Heat.

All-Star guard Dwyane Wade continues to try to keep the Heat (4-6) afloat until O'Neal is healthy enough to return.

Wade had 29 points Tuesday, but Miami lost 101-86 to the New Orleans Hornets on Tuesday -- the fourth defeat in five games for the Heat. The rest of Miami's starters scored 24 points combined.

Miami scored only 15 points and shot 19 percent from the field in the fourth quarter. The Heat are shooting 41.4 percent as a team this season.

"We know we've got to stick together, that's the main thing," said Wade, who fell one shy of his third 30-point game in the last four. "We've been going through the ups, we've been through the downs. The one thing we didn't do last year is we never pointed the finger at each other. We know how it works, but we've got to get it going. ... We're a couple men down, but we've got to always stick together."

Wade enjoyed great success against San Antonio last season, averaging 33.5 points in two games. The Spurs won both meetings.

Antoine Walker indeed has many rolls that prevent him from being the player he thinks he is.

Is the game televised locally? We hope to get into SA around halftime, assuming we can get out of Houston on time.

What a great holiday: being back in SA w/ family, Spurs tonight, Cowboys tomorrow and 'Horns on Friday.

Damn, prolly won't make it in to see the game now. Took the car in for a balance/rotate and the damn Z-rated tires are bald after 20K. Thought I still had 5K left on them. Now I have to dish out $500 for new tires and have to listen to the game on the radio because we can't leave town on time. :bang

That's why he's so dumb. He was supposed to help the Heat out, and he fouls two stupid fouls in the first 2 minutes of the 1st quarter. Then he's back in for the beginning of the 2nd. He fouls again! :lol

Yes, I believe so. Otherwise the basket doesn't really exist as far as the play is concerned.

There was a famous one vs. Detroit in the Finals. Ben Wallace barelled over our man (can't remember who) and wanted a foul because the play was under the basket, but he wasn't shooting.

Yeah...Payton has nightmares of Tony a lot.

Tony's taking advantage of the match up this game.

I'm wondering how different this game would be with Shaq in the paint. Somehow, I don't think Parker would be getting those and-1's, and I KNOW Elson woudn't have grabbed that offensive rebound from THREE Miami players.

That being said, Parker, Barry, Duncan and the rest are making me happy and putting a smile on my face! :)

Though this game without Shaq and their slumping start makes Heat look like a Scrub team + a determined Wade. I''ll probably change the channel if it's like a disparity of 30 points and that Bonner guy is throwing 3 -Bombs for the rest of the fourth.

Poor Timmy, I can't remember the rim ever blocking him like that.

I had no clue until tonight that Barry was that high in 3pt% Maybe they'll have him at the shootout.

Let's hope so. I would like to have an all Spurs all star break for a change.

More Eva, please. :toast

Great half by the Spurs. Like I said, they just clowned around in the 1st Q. When they got serious, they dominated.

I'm not saying that all the Spurs ever have to do is play hard and they win (they almost always play hard, as do all good pros). But tonight, they played "less hard" in the 1st.
