This is how it goes. We go through each round and after a 24 hour period of no voting than the one leading the vote count gets that spot. We do this for every round. My first round pick goes to Boston. Can't vote twice for the same band.

JMarkJohn's you can only pick one band per round.

Fine, then GnR #2, but I want Alice in Chains to be my #3 vote.

Not enough love for Alice on this board. One of the most innovative and progressive bands ever. HUGE impact on the music scene. Not afraid to alienate some who limit their fandom by a certain sound... went every which way and it all sounded great and unlike anything before it or after.

Seriously, get music bank and liston non-stop. You'll be floored. Then just for kicks throw in Jar of Flies and then Unplugged and you'll never find a more unique gamet of progressions, riffs and stylings anywhere.

#4 I would have to throw The Rolling Stones.
#5 Pink Floyd
#6 Lynyrd Skynyrd
#7 Tool
#8 Rage Against The Machine
#9 Creedence Clearwater Revival
#10 The Eagles

Both great and "What The Hell Have I" is in my top-5 Alice songs...

1. God Am
2. Bleed The Freak
3. Would
4. Nutshell
5. What The Hell Have I
6. Down In A Hole
7. Rooster (Unplugged)
8. Got Me Wrong
9. No Excuses
10. Man In The Box

Still, I'm glad I'm not just limited to those songs. I love the variety of styles and sounds you get with each different Alice record. They really tried to do it all, and pulled it off quite successfully.

Why has there hardly been any mention of metallica???

Heres my list, I'll even include a rating from 1-5.
5 being the best

Tool (*****) 5 out of 5
Trapt (*** 1/2) 3 1/2 out of 5
Seether (****) 4 out of 5
Three day Grace (****) 4 out of 5
Skillet (*****) 5 out of 5
A perfect Circle (****1/2) 4 1/2 out of 5
White Zombie (not rob) (****) 4 out of 5
Soilwork (***1/2) 3 1/2 out of 5
Korn (up to "Issues") (***1/2) 3 1/2 out of 5
Disturbed (***1/2) 3 1/2 out of 5
Deftones (***1/2) 3 1/2 out of 5
10 Years (****) 4 out of 5
Breaking Benjamins (****) 4 out of 5
Crossfade (***) 3 out of 5
Linkin Park (****) 4 out of 5
Fear Factory (****) 4 out of 5
Sevendust (****1/2) 4 1/2 out of 5
Staind (***1/2) 3 1/2 out of 5
Static-X (***) 3 out of 5
Thousand Foot Krutch (****1/2) 4 1/2 out of 5
Shinedown (***) 3 out of 5
Mudvayne (***1/2) 3 1/2 out of 5

If you got by comparing these to the top 25 bands of all time, almost none of them would make it.
But definitely Metallica.
To me metallica started it all.
They seperated themselves from all the 80's rock bands.
But the list I put up is my "now" rockbands.

I could name more, but it would be a different variety of rock.

I dont get it either.
Is it our top 25 or are we trying to determine who we agree is the best?
Cuz it aint gonna happen.
You wont find people agreeing on whos the best of all time.
People have different taste.

How about nirvana? or is that too played out? Or would y'all just ignore it because I said it?

I had them in my original top-10, but changed my mind. If you are talking about pure impact upon the culture and albums sold, then perhaps, but if you're talking about skilled and innovative musicians who delve into complicated chord progressions and vocal stylings, then I don't think they fit the criteria.

I'm as big a fan of Nirvana as any - LITERALLY as I have a shrine (books, framed pics, framed albums and records, headlines) to them in my guitar room and did a college paper on the 27 club and one on why Kurt was murdered - but they were very simple with their rythems, rhymes, ability and approach.

Hey, I'm fine with it. It worked, but when I think about great musicians, I do not think of Nirvana.

Unfortunately, impact on the culture and album sales do not equate greatness, else bands like Nsync or the Backstreet Boys would up there with any.

Nirvana was all attitude and the attitude conveyed the message. A great band's music isn't overshadowed or muted by said band's attitude.

Nirvana = Music for the sake of music
Alice in Chains = Music for the sake of art

That's the difference twixt good and great music, with impact not being the main factor.
