It's on TP's and Bruce's head - they are the ones who've made bad decisions in the last 2 mins.

BS, Pop played the first 3 minutes of the 4th with 0 offensive options, and giving Elson no run when he's built do guard a guy like Nowitzki

Spurs made the same stupid mistake this game as they did with the Bobcats. They didn't come ready to play and had to dig themselves out of a 17 point hole. They played lousy defense the first half and the Mavs were hitting on all cylinders, especially from 3-point land.

Let's see what the Spurs are made of now - down 1 with 11.7 seconds to go! Who do you foul?

Dirk, the princess of the league, once again gets all the calls his way. No traveling violation, and no foul call on the push with the lower body. Oh well, thats how the league treats him I guess. Doesnt matter, if only Tony and Manu showed up it would have been over mid 4th qtr.

Yup. I called it early this game. Spurs lost because they decided not to show up until the 2nd quarter and dug themselves into a 14pt hole. If they don't do that, they win by a comfortable margin. We shouldn't be lamenting last minute calls, we should be wondering why our guys weren't prepared to play a full 48 minutes.

baseline bum
11-24-2006, 10:47 PM
That would have been real ticky tack to call a foul on Finley's shot. I wish Parker would have put up that three from the baseline when the defense wasn't ready for it.

dbreiden83080

Good game Spurs were lucky to be in it since they played so shitty in the first half. Neither team played great tonight, i mean Tony was average, Manu was bad and then he got hurt, Howard was average and Terry was average both Timmy and Dirk were great. To many TO in the 4th qtr by the Spurs they could have won but they really beat themselves late in the game.

twincam
11-24-2006, 10:50 PM
Let's not make excuses....they lost to the Mavs tonight. The Spurs didn't come through when they needed to...plus losing at home AGAIN wasn't quite helpful. They simply lost.

I wonder if free throws would have helped them like they ALWAYS should in close games from the get go. HMMMmmmmm...I only wonder

loveforthegame
11-24-2006, 10:50 PM
I know I'd rather have seen Elson or Bonner in place of Horry tonight.

The Spurs need to bring it from the start and quite playing from behind all the time.

I thought the game 7 loss would have motivated them enough to play against the Mavs but it's the Mavs who come fired up.

I can't believe we only loss by 3 with Manu stinking it up and Parker only showing up too late. Finley and Horry need to get it together or let guys like Elson and Bonner play.

I agree - Timmy played a great game. I just used him for an example because the announcers said he was 6 for 12 just before he hit those last three. Other players missed some also.

But the biggest thing, imho, was the absolutely stupid turnovers and the inability to convert the Mavs to's into points. Oh, that and the fact that the starting line-up was still at home eating turkey (mentally) when the game started! :dizzy

Spurs didn't deserve to win. They spit on the basketball gods in the wind and got hit.

Their defense in the first half was horrible.
Can't spot a good team 17 points and expect to win.
We didn't start to play until the end of the second quarter.

Tony and Manu didn't help Tim enough.
Tim should have gotten more rebounds.

Having said all that, if we had fair officiating during the game, Spurs win.

You can't body up someone taking a 3point shot and knock them down or off balance. Finley should have been shooting 3 free throws. Chances are good that he will knock down all 3. Then, we're in overtime.

The trip by Devin on Parker should have been called a foul (as it was) and not a turnover. The phantom travel on Tony late in the game was a bad call.
That's just the tip of the iceberg.

However, if we had matched their intensity from the outset, those bad calls would not have mattered. For some reason, Spurs were not amped up to play Dallas and Dallas was amped up to play us.

MannyIsGod
11-24-2006, 10:57 PM
Okay, I'll ask again... can someone tell me the prognosis on Manu's injury? There was no official word. We know as much as you. I'd say its at the least a severe bruise on his ass, probably more like a tailbone bruise and worst case the tailbone is broken.

Let's not forget him totally exiling Beno for the entire game when we could have really used his shooting with the second unit. Beno is definitely Pops token whipping boy this season.

Pop has a designated player he shits on every year and Beno is certainly it. He could have easily gone Serbian on almost any starter the way they were playing in the first quarter but he decides to save the brunt of his wrath for Beno. His stubborness in sticking with Vaughn tonight -all night-, really didn't help our cause.

I hate his double standard on how some players get a myriad of chances and others are just thrown in the doghouse never to return.

Yeah, what did Beno do that was so awful? Neither he nor Tony were playing that great, but was there one play that resulted in Beno's benching?

Also, Oberto was playing great and had a double double. Why didn't he play more late in the game - it was obvious Dirk couldn't guard him.

So Vaughn's 1-4 with 2 assists and 1 TO was more than you think Beno could have produced if he wasn't yanked after 1min?

Please. None of us here are psychic but I would wager he could have done better than that line given the 11 minutes Vaughn was given.

Earlier this year, one of the new players (can't remember which one) said that you had to learn to play Pop's way. If you don't play defense, you won't play at all! I guess Beno learned that tonight. Let's hope he's a fast learner!

All of the shots he took were horrible. Dribbling to the basket early in the shot clock with no rebounders. Lucky for him, he was fouled on one of his drives. He took a contested fadaway jumper that looked ugly all the way. He's not AI. His job isn't to score. Lead the team, play D, and distribute the ball

Vaughn for Udrih in the second quarter was a great move, Udrih has been horrible defending Johnson.
Using Vaughn in the 4th quarter instead of Udrih was a really bad decission. Spurs team was very weak on the offensive end (Vaughn/Finley/Bowen/Horry/Oberto) and a point guard who can score would have greatly helped Spurs.

I'll take you on your word since I didn't see the game but Beno was hardly given much of a chance to recover from his mistakes when yanked within a minute.

Beno makes mistakes but he can give you passing and scoring. Something Vaughn can't. I just think we could have used his scoring tonight. He virtually matched Vaughn's scoring in under a minute. We seemed to have struggled to score in stretches tonight.

I can't be sure but I also seem to remember him jacking up at least 2 ill-advised shots in the fourth.

Just got back from the game. On the radio they were talking to an assistant coach who, when asked about Manu, said it was a lower back injury, but that the trainer had cleared him to keep playing. Pop chose not to risk it. That was perhaps a questionable decision on his part, but probably not even in the top five of questionable decisions he made this game. Some of his lineup decisions were beyond rational comprehension.

There was no official word. We know as much as you. I'd say its at the least a severe bruise on his ass, probably more like a tailbone bruise and worst case the tailbone is broken. what? Manu is injured again? and we LOST? Dallas almost choked right there after a 17pt-adv, huh :D

BTW a tailbone injury is think is even worse than a broken wrist or back spasms usually suffered by some NBA players bec it's connected to the spinal column. I hope Manu's injury is not even this close-a broken tailbone. That really sucks bec usually a tailbone injury can take quite a while to heal. Some people do not completely recover for 8 weeks or even longer.

now I'm sad not because we lost but bec Manu might be injured again and miss some impt games. :depressed

Either way its a good rivalry and it will get better throughout the year. I also wanted to comment on something I think Terry said, I didn't see it but I hear he thanked God for beating the Spurs! Interesting that he would say something like that for a Regular season game that, when all is said and done, doesnt mean much.
