View Full Version : Question regarding Vince Young....

... If Vince wins the Rookie of the Year, does that finally make amends for his Heisman snub? I'm an Aggie fan, but I am not going to deny that Vince Young is a great quarterback and won the Rose Bowl for Texas last year on his own.
Before Tory Smith's domination this year, Reggie Bush won the Heisman by the largest margin in history and Vince was visibly upset at the ceremony. Vince has singlehandedly won a bunch of games for the Titans this year and is 6-2 as a starter, while Bush has shown flashes of brilliance, but hasn't had quite the presence VY has so far. Young's NFL career is off to a decidedly better start than I ever would have expected, and I think he deserves the ROY for his performance(s) so far this season.
Essentially, do you guys think that the NFL Rookie of the Year should mean more to Vince - and be more indicative of his overall ability - than his Heisman loss in '05? (Assumming he wins the award - although M. Colston and Devin Hester have made great cases for themselves on winning teams...)
I'm just wondering, since his ability to impact a game (60% completion over the past few games) has completely exceeded any of my expectations, since I thought he wouldn't be able to throw the ball with any consistency and, therefore, be "Vick Part 2."

I think the second he won the BCS game, he was over it. i don't see how Bush could win ROY, he isn't even the starting RB. I think Marques Colston has a better shot for the Saints, which is a reason neither of them will win it, because they will split that vote. The other good candidate, Hester, is great but all special teams play. He hasn't once won the Rookie of Week, either.

People who say he won the rose bowl on his own are ignorant, how many times do we have to remind you....UT's defense stopped USC twice on fourth and short, intercepted leinart and even caused LenDale's first fumble of the year...
Don't forget Ramonce Taylor's 33 yard touchdown run.
Selvin Young's touchdown run.
Huff played bad ass in that entire game and had alot of good tackles.
Thomas had first down catch after first down catch after first down catch in the late fourth...
VY won the game for us at the last second but he did not do everything on his own.

Nice job ignoring the fact that Vince's presence in the backfield contributed to such plays as Taylor's and Selvin's touchdown runs... Also, who was finding Thomas for catch after catch in the 4th? Secondly, why was Thomas getting open on crossing routes? Because USC had to put a spy on Vince Young so it took away an extra defender in coverage. And he converted 3rd down after 3rd down on that final drive, not just scoring the last 8 points. Oh, and he didn't turn the ball over, which is another key to his performance.
Yes, Huff played great that game and that's why he's in the NFL... I said that Texas's defense was gonna be the difference maker before the game even started. UT blew their first few possessions of the game with turnovers, as well - they were, by far, the much better team out there that day.
But to deny that Vince Young had a completely dominant performance is being ignorant... I guess you're going to say that he didn't really do anything for the Titans this past Sunday but run for the winning touchdown - the rest of the team did the comeback on their own.

All i am saying is that he did not completely beat usc on his own. The play for Taylor was a straight up draw play coming on a series in which VY didn't do anything but throw until that point. It was the only true non vince young aided touchdown, so thats why i remember it.
And thomas still had to catch the ball....he was covered on some of them as well, though not in the fourth quarter catches.
I know he was completely dominant but he did not beat usc by himself. Its a team sport. Everyone had to do their part.

I didnt...he was our leader in yardage wasnt he, and he was the only player on the team that was an explosive threat...like if you slacked off on guarding him he'd get a 30 yard play like nothing....we didn't have that this year.

I think everyone deserves to have a 2nd (or 3rd :lol ) chance so, do you all think Ramonce will behave in the NFL?
