...didn't know where to put this thread. but Alamo Heights is where i went to high school so i am pumped about the game tonight. since i am in Montana i am going to have to listen to a stream unless anybody knows of anyway i can get it on video through the internet? (i am guessing no).
thoughts: Heights always has a good team, but never a dominant one like this, so it is such an amazing accomplishment. especially, when you consider we are just a bunch of white rich kids, :rolleyes . anyway, Heights has blown away their opponents and i don't really expect this game to be any different....our first state title EVER!
prediction: 'Mo Heights 38 Copperas Cove 24
.....Go MULES!

...i just think this is Heights's year. i think the game will be close for about a half and then i expect Heights to open it up and win with a nice cushion. everyone has doubted this team early on in the playoffs and now they don't think our team has had that tough of a route to the title game. i can see why they say that, we have cruised to the title game...but thats more a testament to the quality of our team than the lack of opposition. everybody is good in rounds 3 & 4....now its just a matter of claiming what should be ours!!!
...whoa Mules! do it for Gaylard Fenley, we remember you man!!! (he was the athletic director when i was in high school, died of cancer).

NorCal would tell you that threads about high school JV backup kickers and the like (http://spurstalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=51182) go in the NFL forum.
I think you're probably in the right place.
I haven't seen either Heights or Copperas Cove play this year; my sheer guess is that Heights steps up in class a bit too much this week and is beaten in the Dome. San Antonio teams (other than Judson) haven't traditionally fared well in state finals. Greater SA area teams are 5-13 in 5A and 4A state finals since 1983:
Judson 4-6
Smithson Valley 0-3
Roosevelt 1-0
Marshall 0-1
Taft 0-1
MacArthur 0-1
New Braunfels 0-1
I hope I'm wrong, though.

good thoughts. but 'Mo Heights was suppose to be out of their league against Lamar Consolidated...and then proceeded to beat their ass. i realize the odds are against my school, but they have been all year. plus, Copperas Cove's defense is going to get destroyed by Giovanni and the Heights offense.
...kick off in a little over 3 hours. can't believe i have to listen to it on the internet though. :depressed

taft should have won that game a few years back... IIRC they lost because of a missed pat.

bummer. but i think it also helps that Heights was in the state semifinal a few years ago when these seniors were freshmen. and while they didn't play they still got to be a part of it and see what going that far into the playoffs was all about.
...i really feel confident that Heights wins.

I'm gonna say Cove by 14. Looking at the games both teams have played in the playoffs, one could easily argue that any one of Cove's opponents would beat Heights.

There have certainly been some near misses. Taft was close, but played in horrendous weather and had all sorts of trouble moving the ball. Smithson Valley has lost a couple of close games in Finals. MacArthur lost badly in their only appearance, but they didn't know they were playing in the state final until Wednesday or Thursday and had very little time to prepare for Cedric Benson's Midland Lee team. Marshall was fairly close in 1991, holding a halftime lead on Odessa Permian's (supposedly) greatest team ever.
Like I say, I hope Heights wins.

actually, Mesquite went for 2 and got it and won 15-14.
They should have won though. There was a play in the end zone where the Mesquite QB was being sacked and threw away the ball to try and avoid the sack...the ball was not to the line and no where near an eligible receiver so either it should have been a sack for a safety or intentional grounding in the end zone which is also a safety. The first half was a downpour and Taft, who was primarily a running team (Robert Merrill who ended up doing well for TCU) controlled the game pretty easily. The second half the rain stopped and Mesquite was able to move the ball through the air.
How do I know this?
I sat freezing my ass off soaked to the bone watching the game!
five years ago to the day actually.

I was at the game. Worst officiated game I have ever seen. There had to of been atleast 30 penalties, most of the bullshit for cove. After one play when the AH fumbled on the .0001 inch line and Cove ran it back to the 50, the AH coach was on the field for 3 minutes, the back judge just stood there listening. Next play they give cove a sideline warning
Cove's QB sucked ass though. On 2 seperate drives he had WR's wide open going to the endzone and he over threw them. WIDE FUCKING OPEN.
CCove was also outcoached bigtime. AH rans plays that the QB could get the ball out quickly, and alot of plays that bailed the QB out if there was pressure. Cove had like 10 yards rushing with the running back, but continured to run from under center doing PA when they were having no success. As opposed to everytime they ran shotgun the QB could see the field better and could run from.

Yeah Cambridge was awesome. What year you graduate from AH? I know you know Chris Sullivan and if it's the same Chris Sullivan from AH, we probably graduated same year.

cool. i graduated in 1999 and played football as well. its never too hard to remember the '99 class of football players cause there was like 12 of us....it was ridiculous. we had about 32 players on varsity. so naturally, a lot of us played both ways.
1. sullivan started @ tailback and did some DB work along with many special teams
2. wes sharples started @ QB and played DE
3. edvin beasley started @ DB and played WR
4. john diggs started on both sides of the line
5. tony bryant started on both sides of the line
6. cole cloud started @ SS and played TE
7. i started @ DB, backed up sulli at RB and played WR along with returning kickoffs...well i did every special teams actually
8. the other 5 seniors just played one way
sharples, beasley, diggs, bryant, cloud, and i really never left the field. so you can see why it was fairly difficult for us to go far into the playoffs. i was disappointed we lost in the first round, but considering our depth and that we drew Hays Consolidated......its hard to get down on ones self.
anyway, we had an amazing year cause there was so few of us and we were so tight knit. of the 32 players on varsity i'd say only about 22-23 played regularly....it seriously was nuts. they use to call us the "dirty 30"....smallest heights varsity team ever, i reckon.
