I hate to say I predicted this, but I put my money where my mouth is.

Sure, I didn't say anything beforehand, per se, but I did bet that they wouldn't cover the spread.

It was so predictable; almost christmas, playing a beaten-down team, been cruising to wins easily...a letdown was inevitable, and though I didn't think they would lose, I figured it would come down to the wire. Which it did.

Of course, when push comes to shove, the Spurs just have more fire-power than these crumpets.

Pao is a shell of his true self. I don't know why they have him out there.

Memphis is a bad team. Philly was a bad team. What is this really teaching the Spurs? How to conquer adversity? They should already have learned that lesson.

When you put in your second team, you are going to have teams come back on you.

Our bench is not very good. Oberto is ok, and Barry and Fin can score. Our second unit consists of essentually 2 good sg and a decebt backup center, with a bad pg and a practically washed up pf to throw in. The defense of our second unit has MUCH to be desired.

The key to our bench is how effective Robert Horry is. As soon as he becomes effective again, then our bench will be ok (although I think we're pretty deep already, but oh well).

We have beno and vaghn as backup pg's, which means we have 2 3rd stringers trying to hold things together while tony rests.

We have no backup sf, which means we either burn bowen too long or we put a sg in instead, hence our bad rebounding (not that Bowen is an even average rebounding sf...)

Horry is having a terrible year. I don't know how much he has left, if any, and he is our only viable backup pf unless we burn Elison more than we should and put in Oberto at backup C with him.

Its not like Horry was tearing it up last year, either. I remember he won us a game or 2 last year during the regular season, but he was quiet for the post season, which is where we need him most anyway.

I think our bench scores ok IF fin and barry are hitting. If not, it has no redeaming qualities. Other teams like DALLAS have a GREAT bench...I'm afraid we are going to have to run our first team for heavy minutes in the playoffs to keep our 2nd unit from getting murdered by theirs.

Mavs starters (dirk, howard, terry, harris, dampier) account for 77.3 of their 98 ppg. Spurs starters (tim/tony/manu/bowen/elson) account for 66.9 of their 100 ppg.

I think Beno has shown signs this year that he is a 2nd stringer. He just needs to work on his confidence.

As for our lack of an SF, I think that's attributed to Horry's slow start even though that, surprisingly, his rebounding totals are actually a bit higher than last year. One could argue that Horry just needs to find his offensive groove again, then he'll be fine.

The X-factor on our bench, though, is Matt Bonner. I don't know why Pop hasn't given him more playing time, but we need the Red Rocket to step up. Maybe it's just me, but he could really help out big time if given the chance.

according to spurs website:
(rounded)

Well, that 100 pt average has 3 coming from williams and butler. do you see them scoring that much outside of the combined 9 games they have played?

lets look at 4 or 5 of the last few games to get a sense of how the bench is doing recently:

phil: fin scored 14, and barry put in 6. Outside of those two, the bench scored 8 pts.

at the hornets, bench scores 42, BUT it was a blowout so its hard to weigh that correctly.

at the Clipps, barry and fin combine for 30. The rest of the bench scores 9 pts.

Against LaL, Manu from the bench scores 23 and Fin starting scores 6. Oberto and Elison combine for like 4 pts. The bench (if you count fin rightfully as the bench) scores 21 pts in the loss.

Looking at Dallas, their big 3 are combining for over 60 ppg, terry is good for another 15...they DO actually rely heavily on their starters, BUT THEY DON"T HAVE TO.

X-mas is far into the future:

Santa Bot was created by the Momcorp subsidary Mom's Friendly Robot Co. to determine who had been naughty and nice, and distribute presents accordingly. Unfortunately, Santa's standards were set too high and he invariably finds everyone to be naughty (except Dr. Zoidberg). He then stalks the streets, hunting down the naughty people and kicking some naughty ass with his arsenal of high-powered weaponry. In the future everyone stays inside after sundown on Xmas Eve unless they have a death wish, as the suicide booths all have long queues at that time of the year.

In the year 3000, Santa Bot was foiled in his dastardly plans by the Planet Express crew, though he vowed to come back when they least expected it (next Xmas).

The following year, Bender had to take Santa Bot's place after he was frozen by the aformentioned Planet Express crew. Unfortunately, the people of Earth were not aware that the new Santa was a friendly robot, and Bender had a hard time staying out of trouble.
