View Full Version : Kobe vs. Wade on Christmas Day

Look for Pat Riley and Phil Jackson to let Wade and Kobe go at each other on christmas day. There is bad blood between those two and Phil and Pat dont care for each other either.

Take your Pick, Kobe or Wade?

Twelve Reasons to Watch
High Def:
By 2 ET, you will have your new high-definition TV all set up. (The game is on ABC HD.) And, even if you get a little confused reconnecting the cable, you can still watch the game ... It's on the local station, too.
Streaking on Christmas:
The Heat is looking for its third straight Christmas Day win over the Lakers. The 2004 matchup was an overtime thriller and, last year, Miami got big games from former Lakers Shaquille O'Neal and Gary Payton in a 97-92 victory.

Play the "I Would Get Him A ____ for Christmas" Game:
Scan through the Heat and Lakers rosters as the game plays out and see who in your family can think of the best gift for each player. For the Lakers, maybe some get-well flowers for Lamar Odom. On Miami's side, Riles could always use a new designer suit. We know what both teams really want: More championship rings. Sorry, guys. Those can't be bought; they must be earned.

Watch It In Your Pajamas:
The game is at 2, so those of us on the East Coast can linger on the couch in our robes and slippers after tearing through the Christmas presents and loaf around until tip-off. And for those West Coasters, it will be even easier to convince your family that there's no need to hurry and get dressed at 11 a.m.

Mo' 'Zo:
Shaq's injury has opened up playing time again for Alonzo Mourning, who's averaging more than 20 minutes per game for a second straight season. He ranks third in the league in blocks per game (2.65)

The Heat Dancers:
No explanation needed ... but if you feel like it, you can check out this.

New Rivalry:
This contest used to be billed as Shaq vs. Kobe, but they've made up. Now, it's a platform for us to compare perhaps the two best shooting guards in the entire league: DWade and Kobe. Last year, Wade went cold from the field, while Kobe lit it up in Miami, scoring 37 points — but he did miss all eight of his triples.

Records Are Meant To Be Broken:
The Christmas Day record for points in a game is 60 (Bernard King, 1984). Kobe could get that in three quarters. And with just 36 points, he could pass Shaq as the active leader in total Christmas points.

You'll Shoot Your Eye Out:
By 2 ET, you've already watched A Christmas Story 11 times. And, even though Lakers-Heat is as much a Christmas tradition by now, you can't predict the next play like you can recite, "The coup de grace of all dares, the sinister triple-dog dare."

L.A. Story:
Because, although the Heat are the defending NBA champs right now, the Lakers are playing better ball and are nipping at the Suns' heels in the Pacific Division. If you haven't already, take a look at the Lakers — even without Lamar Odom.

Mike and Mark:
Mike Breen and Mark Jackson, that is. Though they work on opposite sides of the Hudson River (Breen for the Knicks in New York, Jackson for the Nets in Jersey), these are two of the best in the business. It will be nice to hear the tandem for the first time on a national broadcast on Christmas.

White Christmas?
While the game will be held in the temperate tropical climes of Miami, we still may have a white Christmas inside the AmericanAirlines Arena. During the playoffs last year, the Heat handed out "White Hot" themed t-shirts and the Heat won the NBA title. Who knows, maybe we'll get a White (Hot) Christmas after all.

highest rated game of the season?

Highest rated game of the season is what stern wants on a christmas day where no one's doing anything but spending time at home watching television and spending quality time with the family..

Maybe... but the game will be boring, no doubt about it..

Everyone's used to Wade and Kobe scoring theirs... nothing interesting.. the team that has the other role players playing a good game will win.. end of story..

I don't think we have had a game with just Wade vs. Kobe before on christmas. This one is different because they will not have their 2nd scorers and they will guard each other. The spotlight will be on them only.

Biggest game of the season as far as the NBA goes. It's all about ratings and ratings mean dollars. The game itself is secondary but it will rate as high as any other game this season.

The Laker Effect

Without the Los Angeles Lakers, ABC's television ratings would be even worse than they currently are. The Lakers, a popular team with a large fanbase, have given ABC an automatic ratings spike nearly every time they play on the network. The lone Finals that has registered a double-digit rating for ABC involved the Lakers, and the network's highest regular season rating was spawned from a rivalry featuring former Laker teammates--the 7.2 rating scored by the December 25, 2004 broadcast of the Los Angeles Lakers-Miami Heat game. That game featured former Laker Shaquille O'Neal facing off against Kobe Bryant. While ratings for that game were the highest they'd been for a regular season game since 1998 (a Chicago Bulls-Los Angeles Lakers matchup), the storyline behind the game ended up hurting ABC later on. Without Shaquille O'Neal on the team, the Lakers faltered and the two late April games where they were featured on ABC ended up having no playoff implications, leading to low ratings. In addition, even with O'Neal and rising star Dwyane Wade, the Miami Heat have not been an automatic ratings draw for ABC. The April 2005 meeting between the Heat and the defending champion Detroit Pistons failed to register even a 2.0 rating. Miami's run to the 2006 NBA championship boosted ABC's ratings, including a rise in ratings for the Finals. However, the Heat's title still did not come close to the Lakers' 2004 Finals appearance in terms of television ratings.

That or at least a finals rematch. Or something with Utah, Denver, or Phoenix. There's no tradition between these two clubs, but I'm pretty sure that's what the NBA wants. Shaq vs Bynum, are u crazy....he couldn't keep up with fuckin Micheal Doleac...LMAO what a joke

Wow Shaq has fallen really low, if he can`t keep up with Doleac anymore... No wonder he isn`t in the lineup. :lol

I'm glad I was sick and fell asleep in the 4th because that was some boring shit. Wade never got touched on a lot of those calls. And it's nice to know he can underhand the ball when he wants and not have to worry about carrying calls.

i was watching the 06 dunk highlights on nba.com and theres this break way dunk by richardson where he literally takes like 2 steps before putting the ball on the ground and no one calls traveling
