Yao Ming injured his right knee and left in the first quarter of Houston's game against the Los Angeles Clippers on Saturday night.

Yao was leaping for a blocked shot as Chuck Hayes and Tim Thomas hit the floor beneath him. Yao's knee appeared to get caught under Thomas' body and Yao immediately grabbed his knee and screamed in pain.

Trainer Keith Jones left the Rockets' bench to check on Yao, joined by team doctors. Rockets officials brought out a cart, but Yao limped off the floor, with teammate Bonzi Wells helping him.

The Rockets said Yao suffered a bone bruise and would not return to Saturday's game. His status beyond that was uncertain.

Yao is off to the best start of his career, averaging 27 points and nine rebounds. He had topped 30 points in four consecutive games before scoring 22 in Friday's 97-78 victory at San Antonio.

The Rockets were already playing without six-time All-Star Tracy McGrady, who sat out for the seventh straight game with back spasms.

He fractured the knee. He's out 6 weeks. Tmac better hurry back(no pun intended) or the Rockets are finished.

Yao seems to be a pretty decent guy. I hate that this happened to him.

What a soft pussy. Straight overrated - if it weren't for the trillions of Chinese voting him to the ASG every year nobody would ever have heard of the guy.

Dude's more fragile than Marcus Camby and Larry Hughes combined - goes down more reliably than a Thai schoolboy just from little owies on his leg.

you're obviously missing the big picture dude, it's obviously cosmic retribution for the sins of Chairman Mao and Red China being visited on Yao Ming's knee.

Yao is the best center in the NBA, anybody who argues otherwise can't notice his tremendous skill for his size.

And taking the hit Yao did and sustaining that injury is not "fragile."

The injury really depresses me. I like the Rockets to be good. Mavs, I hate that team....but would hate to see Dirk go down with a serious injury. I like to beat teams when they are at their best.

Sucks.

The only positive to be taken away from this is that it was a straight trauma injury and not a stress or wear-type injury. He should be ok.

"a bone bruise"

They hurt like hell and can be slow to go away, but it's not ligament or cartilege damage.

I bet the next time he plays, he'll have a knee pad, and only on that knee.

NBA TV Daily says it's fractured bone below his knee, out 6 weeks.

That would be out until ASB or after.

"The same thing happened to Yao last year"

an injury, yes, but it was an infected toe,IIRC, no broken foot/leg bones.

It could end up being a positive as Bonzi is going to have to score a decent amount now and that could get him rolling. If he's playing well when Yao & TMac are both back the Rockets could be tough.

Yao and TMac injured? What a shock. They should be called the Dy-Cambyc duo.
