SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Spurs announced today that they have recalled guard/forward James White from the Austin Toros of the NBA Development League.

White, who has yet to see any time with the Spurs, was assigned to the Toros on December 16 and appeared in three games, averaging 15.3 points and 2.7 rebounds in 29.3 minutes of action.

The former University of Cincinnati Bearcat was signed by San Antonio on November 3 after attending training camp with the Indiana Pacers. In eight preseason games with Indiana, White averaged 3.8 points and 2.0 rebounds in 17.5 minutes of action. White also averaged 12.5 points with Indiana’s entry to the Pepsi Pro Summer League in Orlando.

White led the Bearcats in scoring (16.3) and free throw percentage (.838) during the 2005-06 season. An honorable mention All-Big East selection, he finished second on the Bearcats in steals (1.2), assists (2.0) and blocks (0.9) and third in rebounding (5.1) on the year. White scored a career-high 32 points, including a career-high five three-pointers, in a Big East Tourney loss to Syracuse on March 8.

White will join the Spurs tonight for their game against the Milwaukee Bucks.

Unless he's on the active list tonight, I don't understand why they would call him up. Dude was amost getting 30mpg up here.

Guesses:

1. They didn't like how he's being used in Austin.

2. They are packaging him along with some other players in a trade :drunk

3. One of the Spurs swingmen is hurt that we don't know about.

What's our draft situation in 2007? I've lost track as to whether we've traded for any first round picks.

Beno is in the doghouse so bad that he is going to play James White out of position to make up for Beno's shortcomings on the court

I'm guessing either they didn't like how he was being used in Austin or they saw enough to figure out he's a good player and just brought him back up to keep working in the system.

The weird thing is the Toros play tonight, Thursday and Saturday, with all those games being at home. You keep him there five more days and he gets to play three games without having to travel. At the same time, the Spurs play three home games as well so it's not like they are leaving White behind.

Strange move.

White can't be traded before February 7st.

It's really a strange move given Spurs and Toros schedule.

Yeah I know, I was just making up an outlandish reason. It doesn't make sense to me at all.

I just hope it's not because some other Spur is injured.

E-Will+Oberto for Jeff Foster.
Then Beno+Scola for Sixers 1st round pick from Nuggets.

C DUNCAN/ELSON/BUTLER
PF FOSTER/BONNER/HORRY
SF BOWEN/WHITE
SG MANU/BARRY/FINLEY
PG TONY/VAUGHN

Then we have 2 picks for the draft. We draft a long 3(Warren Carter) and a PG(Acie Law). I know I fantasize a lot. I need to stop dreaming.

Bruno
12-26-2006, 04:52 PM
Another possibility is that they haven't liked what White has done with Toros and they want to practice with him before deciding if they will waive him just before contracts become guaranteed.

12-26-2006, 04:53 PM
I'm curious...... Who would want a point guard with little to no intensity (Beno) and a past his prime forward (E. Williams). Unless they would take on the contracts because they expire for next season and create cap room. But who can we get in return? Draft picks or a solid role player or maybe both..... only time will tell why this move was made.

The last person who suggested Beno was being looked at by the Sixers almost got sued and had to write a recant. Tread carefully.

ChumpDumper

Yeah, White wouldn't have to be recalled to be traded. A couple of trades happened last season without players being recalled. I want to say it was Sean Banks, but it may have been Dwayne Jones.

What's our draft situation in 2007?

Spurs picks for the 07 draft are :
Spurs first round pick
Better of Milwaukee's own 2007 2nd round pick and Houston's own 2007 2nd round pick
Bulls second round pick (top 51 protected)
Spurs second round pick

Relax folks, White was re-called simply because Ginobili, Barry and Bonner are all out for at least tonight's game with a stomach virus. Asst. coach Budenholzer got it, too.
