Hmmmmmm...so either Crocop is coming to the UFC, or Dana gave him a sweatshirt and he cares so little about it that he wears it into poor neighborhoods while he does community service... :lol

Cro-Cop in the UFC... my little heart is all aflutter. In anticipation of seeing him beat the stuffing out of Tim Sylvia, that is.
My picks:
Liddell
Griffin (by decision, after they beat the crap out of each other for three rounds)
Bisping
Leben
Okami
Alves
AA (of course)
Perosh
Marrero (just a hunch about that one)

Holy hell!
UFC is making noise. Real noise. More entertainment for me. I am absolutely exstatic to see the likes of Rampage, CroCop et al compete (and possibly dominate) the paper television tigers.
I love watching Griffin fight, dont get me wrong theyre highly entertaining, but theyre not exactly...technical or the best display of MMA fighting ability.

I am anxious to see Forrest fight. I think many people underestimate him, which kind of surprises me after his performance against Tito. He trained in Athens, GA to get where he is, but he progressed and now trains in Las Vegas. Due to his switching camps and being surrounded and training with a much larger pool of MMA talent, you will see Forrest improve and be a force in his division.

I don't understand how Tito lost this time. He talked so much shit, and there was all this talking about him being in amazing shape mentally and physically. Tito is in much better shape and way more muscular than Lidell, but can't manage to bring him down enough...
My question is: Is Lidell that much of a hardcore bad ass motherfucker or is Tito just a little bitch compared to what he looks like? OR a combination of both?

Tito was in great shape, but it's not like Ladell just sits on the couch so it's not that big of an advantage. They are both the same weight and height and while Tito looks almost 100% muscle, Ladell looks just a little less. So while I would give the advantage to Tito, it's not big enough to win a strikers fight. Also, I heard something about Tito possibly over training.
Tito is definitely very good though. Ladell was very cautious about mixing it up with him and looked like he would have been defeated if Tito got him on the ground. Ladell even said after the match it was his biggest victory ever so I think that speaks to Tito's ability.
Chuck is just a badass.

Yeah I know Lidell is no bum, and I also saw that on Spike that Tito over trains, but Tito really has much more muscle than chuck. I don't know, Tito to mee just seems bulkier than Chuck and in a fight formatted like the UFC is, how you can wrestle, box, strike, kick, whatever, I think Tito should have the advantage. He looks like a guy who could get Chuck on the ground, overpower him, get on top and keep pounding him with punches and elbows.

Muscle does not equal a fight deciding advantage. If it did, Jeff Monson would be heavyweight champ. Strength/muscle is only a small component of the game. A perfect example of this would be the greatest fighter in the world, Fedor Emelienanko, who most people would describe as pudgy and undersized for a heavyweight.

I would love to see this match too. It's one of those dream matches that we as fans could only hope for. With Quentin Jackson being signed to UFC, you might get to see somebody beat Chuck's ass soon enough. Quentin did it once and he has the best chance out of anybody at doing it again.

Ken's prime was pretty long ago but he was a great fighter back in the day. They've released UFCs 1-6 on DVD so you can check out some of his old fights there. Just avoid the Superfights that he had with Royce Gracie and Dan Severn. These are 30 minute long snoozefests and there's really no reason to put yourself through watching them. I can't remember exactly which UFCs these were on but it should tell you on the DVD boxes.

My picks in bold.
Tito Ortiz vs Chuck Liddell
Andrei Arlvoski vs. Marcio Cruz
Forrest Griffin vs. Keith Jardine
Chris Leben vs. Jason MacDonald
Eric Schafer vs. Michael Bisping
Yushin Okami vs. Rory Singer
Tony DeSouza vs. Thiago Alves
Carmelo Marrero vs. Gabriel Gonzaga
Anthony Perosh Vs. Christian Wellisch
7 out of 9 picks correct.
I am really dissapointed in DeSouza's performance. Alves is no joke, but DeSouza has alot of experience and skills and should have put up a much better fight.
The Griffin/Jardine fight surprised me. Forrest's standup was crisp, sharp, and looked better than it ever has. But Jardine started brawling and caught Forrest. People are becoming very aware that Greg Jackson's camp in New Mexico is turning out to be one of the more respected schools in MMA. He has Diego, Jardine, and Rashad Evans in the UFC, and they all have bright futures, especially Diego.
Even without the signing of Cro-cop, UFC's heavyweight divison is finally starting to get interesting with a couple of guy's showing potential, most notably Gabriel Gonzaga. He is a big guy with some serious BJJ skills, and even some standup power. Another heavyweight I'd like to see again soon is Antoni Hardonk. I'd like to see more of his ground game before I further assess how well he'd go in the HW division.
Also, looks like AA is back on track. That was a hell of a punch he threw at Cruz. I really want him to get back into the hunt for the title. I could see him and Cro-cop facing each other in a title match in the future.
Jason MacDonald is for real. Leben was very aggresive and getting the better of him standing up, but MacDonald has excellent submission skills and shows he can catch you at any time, as he did Leben.
Finally, Chuck again showed why he is the best: World class take down defense and an unorthadox and dangerous standup game. When you look at all the names of all of the people he has knocked out, it's very impressive and he has definately defended his title against some real talent. I'd love to see him and Jackson go at it again. Chuck fought a stupid fight their 1st fight because he completely ignored his entire gameplan. Also, back in '03, Jackson was at his highest point in his MMA career. Chuck is a better fighter now than he was back then and I'd say this is his highest point in his career. It would be an interesting fight, and if they fought tomorrow, I'd put my money on Chuck.

Funny, I didn't think it was that bad of an ass kicking by Chuck over Tito.
I went back & watched it twice yesterday & heard Randy C even say that the blows by Chuck, that many were going crazy over, weren't really hurting Tito because most were being blocked by Tito's arm.
All the replays of the last couple of seconds even show Tito starting to move to get back up & the ref stopping the fight. Tito then kicks in the air in what looks like frustration at having the fight stopped prematurely.
I gotta hand it to Tito, no excuses despite the questionable stoppage.
He knows he wasn't beat but has prob seen too many fighters make excuses afterwards.
Tito wanted no part of excuses.

Kongo can't do shit. He has standup skills, but absolutely zero takedown defense. And after he gets taken to the ground, he is useless. If Carmelo Marerro can control him on the ground, think of what someone like Gabriel Gonzaga would do to him. He would get subbed in 2 minutes.

I agree with you on Vera. I hope Kongo will develop into a major player because I really enjoy his style but I'm not counting on it at this point. His ground game and td defense just looked so weak in his last fight. That could improve in time though.
In regards to Vera and Werdum, I feel that Werdum is better for the same reason that he's ranked higher; he's proven himself against a higher level of competition. Plus his ADCC history puts him on different level in terms of grappling. Werdum has also been training with Crocop for some time now and his striking is looking pretty damn sharp. Maybe not at Vera's level but still very sharp.
And like I said earlier, for whatever reason the Aleks to UFC deal never worked out. I have no idea why. I just know that I was disappointed because more talent in the HW division would be a great thing for us fans. Fortunately, Crocop is a better addition than AE and it shows that the UFC wants top level talent and they have $$$ to make it happen.

(We differ in opinion here. Werdum no slouch BUT, his last fight's arena of fighting isn't exactly the pinnacle as are the UFC/Pride(ish) arenas. He's had several Pride fights no? Why stray?)
...more talent in the HW division would be a great thing for us fans.
(I concur)
Fortunately, Crocop is a better addition than AE and it shows that the UFC wants top level talent and they have $$$ to make it happen.

Very true. It seems like a step down from Pride. But a high level match is high level match no matter where it is. I don't know why he would stray from Pride though. Maybe that particular smaller org offered him a big paycheck for the AE fight. I don't really know.

LOL...the return of Dio to the MMA threads...awesome... :fro
BTW, whatever happened to that Wunderkind Russian youngin' that was supposed to go unbeaten & tear thru the UFC?
Exactly.
Anyways, I think that guy lost a little while back in some bush league fight.
Such a fan of the sport... :lol :lol :lol :lol
Aleks E coming over ended up being just a rumor. Him signing to fight with Bodogfight in Russia in March might've had something to do with that not happening. WHo knows...
Bush league?? 2H2H is a feeder league for Pride. Hardly "bush league"...
and Werdum is a stud who himself would run thru the UFC HW's (he'd even have a chance vs Crocop due to his ground skills)...

UFC 66 Sat Night....
My picks:
Upsets: Tito, MacDonald, Jardine, Schafer, Perosh
Locks: Okami, Alves, AA, Gonzaga
Announcements: Crocop signed. Rampage will be there too, but he's already announced as having signed)
6/9...I knew Tito was a reach. I was just hoping I guess... :fro
Props to Chuck....time for Rampage, hopefully 2 fights from now...
I hope we never see Leben again. His hair is a disgrace to the sport...garbage that they don't need in the UFC...
Dana probably shed a tear over his poster boy Forrest getting rocked. He's been over-rated since his sloppy fight with Bonnar. And WTF??
Alves is a stud...Bisping looked really good.
DarkReign

My first PPV and it was pretty good.
Leben is junk. Dude doesnt even looks like he trains. "Hands of brick" my ass. His punches are slow and completely inaccurate.
I like Lidell, but I was hoping for a better fight. The ref stoppage was legit, like Dan said, laying in the fetal position is not "intelligently defending yourself".
I was surprised with the Griffin loss. Although Leonard may think he is overrated, I think he may be underrated. Jardine is no joke. He has holes, but he is a solid fighter both on his feet and on the ground. Griffin shoulda, coulda, woulda....bottom line, he got knocked out (and didnt take it too well either).
Good card all around though. That Alva fight was BORING! ugh...so boring. Looked like Alva could have really put the pain on DeSouza, but had too much respect to kill him (as he could have). The Gonzaga dude put on a ground clinic. Was it the competition that made him look so good? World titles in BJJ speak to the fact that he just may be capable of putting on a similar clinic against much better competition. Bisping owned, not that I expected much else. Lets see what he does against some quality. MacDonald is Canadian, therefore has an inferiority complex and therefore when trying to talk "tough" comes across like a pussy ("Im not a stepping stone!"). GSP even sounds goofy when he talks junk, its a Canadian thinkg I guess (although GSP can more than back it up, hell, he can carry it up 30 flights of stairs).
Im not interested in seeing Rampage and CroCop in the next PPV. Theyre fighting 2nd tier talent and should win very quickly and very handily. When they start moving up the rankings, I will be more than interested, I'll be exstatic.

Tito fought a really good fight against Chuck. There are not many guys that could have survived the beating he took at the end of round 1 and then come back to win the 2nd round. All you have to do is look at Chuck's record he is crushing everybody that is put in front of him. This is the first fight Chuck actually was pushed and tested in like 2 years.

Such is this board & the pride groupies. Jeeeez. :rolleyes )

Hey dickneck, I order every UFC PPV...what are you talking about me not knowing there are other org's? Did you watch K-1 Dynamite over the weekend? Or did you even watch Shockwave?? I intend on watching WEC, Elite XC, Gracie FC, Bodog, etc too...
Of course rankings are subjective and vary some, but MMAWeekly is the most commonly used in the MMA community. (Sherdog doesn't do rankings)

Don't tell that to the pride groupies on this board!
They'll shit & say you know nothing about MMA & blah blah balh!!!
:lol
The UFC's promise had been evident yrs ago & now the past few it is living up to it.
IMO the UFC is now gearing up to take this org & sport to levels never seen before by any org. This is partially evident by the UFC securing fighters from other org's that couldn't keep their own. It will take more than just some noise sticks & flash bang thingys or whatever they use in whatever country to keep the talent that best compliments the fighters currently in the UFC.

I wanna see an Arlovski vs. Liddell fight.
I know Arlovski outweighs him by like 30 pounds, but someone's gotta beat Liddell's ass. Not because I dislike Liddell, I like him, better than Tito that's for sure. The Huntington Beach Bad Boy is quite a douche bag, but I wanna see Arlovski beat Liddell's ass.
Orlovski isn't the same since Maniac beat him the first time. It took all his confidence away. Orlovski's still a great fighter despite his fear, but his glass chin takes away any shot at him being dominant again.
