so i'm headed to a baby shower for a friend of mine in a few days and i have no idea what to buy her. i'm not even sure if guys are supposed to go to these... but she invited me, so i'm going. she's having a girl and isn't going to name it until she sees it, so anything personalized is out of the question... also keep in mind i don't have a lot of $$$ to be dishing out... so something small and affordable is good.

Why would you give a baby a shower? Isn't it more appropriate to give them a bath?

Diapers and wipes.

She'll be using a LOT of those.

Get her some bibs or baby clothes. Or a little baby toy/mobile. Or you can get her one of those little baby CD's or books on parenting. Try Burlington Coat Factory (not sure if you have it there..) they have a great Baby Depot department full of cheap, good gifts.

Is she registered somewhere? I know a lot of women register at Babys-R-Us and Target, so you might want to go online at one of those sites and see if she's registered. That would take a lot of the guessing out for you.

I've been getting invited to these things a lot over the past couple of years, along with other guys.

Usually find out where they are registered. Those baby stores are madhouses.

And I usually buy the dad some good cigars.

I agree that you should ask her where she's registered. If she's not registered, go to a baby department in Target or something--doesn't have to be expensive--and look around and see what looks good. I recommend if you buy clothes, buy them in 3-6 mos or bigger... babies outgrow the infant size really quickly. If you're on a tight budget, pick her up some baby mittens... those are things she'll need but she doesn't know it yet; and also at Target they sell this awesome little spinning duck thingie that is a small trash bag dispenser,so that if you have to change the baby in a place that shouldn't smell like poop, you can tiet hte diaper up in a little bag and put it in your purse. A picture frame. A warm blanket. A little "first aid" kit with nail clippers, snot sucker, tylenol, saline drops... I'll post more ideas if I think ofmore.

yeah.. retarded me... i actually looked at the invitation and it had a line that said registered at: target and babies r us ...

i've never gone to one... but i met up with the parents last night for dinner and they said afterwards there will be drinks... so nothing wrong with free beer :spin

i had fun and it was for a good friend of mine... i really don't care what it makes me look like.

we went to texas roadhouse afterwards for some drinks and i ran into another good friend from school... turned into a real chill time.

only bad thing was that my preggo friend kept on trying to hook me up with some girl with really hairy arms and a stache for the ages.
