According to the local pregame broadcast Marion will guard Terry and Diaw guarding Dirk. I'm curious who will be on Howard; Bell maybe?
Interesting strategy by D'Ant as Marion is fairly effective against Dirk.

Last year is last year. Better to have it than not. But maybe you're right, with the way the Spurs are playing on the road, maybe it'd be better if we didn't have it.

Marion can't guard anyone at all, can he? All the gamble numbers aside, he might be worse defensively than Nash.

I'm actually starting to come around to this line of thought. At one point, he could. I'm not sure what's happened, but he can't keep a single player in front of him, nor himself on the floor when the other squares up to shoot. He always bites on those damn head fakes...

Look at the reply when Dirk hit the game winner. Marion was still in his defensive stance instead of crowding Dirk. He bites too much on those headfakes. The same thing happen with Arenas.

Only reason Marion wasn't biting was he had five fouls. He has four, Dirk goes to the FT line for the win.

Yeah, but maybe that leaves more than 1.3 secs and an Amare heave for the tie... I don't know...
I still wanted a lob to Marion or pass to Nash (a la Nets game) for the tie/win. I like Amare but that shot was about as low % as you get... didn't they have another TO? I thought Bell rushed the inbound play....

Thought certainly crossed my mind. Foul him, take what happens, then with four or five seconds, run a play for yourself. Other than Terry every player on the Mavs struggled from the field. They played the percentages and lost.

Same page again... I don't even have Amare in. I have as many three-point shooters as I can cram on that floor to spread things out and create lanes for the pass. Instead three Suns were within arms length of each other and the defenders when the ball was inbounded.

Exactly... unless Amare was out there to set a really solid screen for someone to get off a good shot, then I'd rather see both the Jones out there and even Pat Burke --- just kidding.
Still, the play seemed to focus on two players - Nash and Marion - and when that failed, you had 3 guys standing around (including Bell in-bounding the ball) and it was dead.
Barbosa impressed me by finally finishing at the rim on a couple of plays, but his overall stupidity and low-basketball IQ still costs the Suns 3+ points per game. (My main example is that the Suns had the ball and a 2-for-1 situation with 43 seconds left in the 3rd and he throws it out-of-bounds before they even crossed half court... it's just too frustrating to discuss further.)
Jumaine Jones basically earned his $350k contract with those 2 threes during that 4th quarter run...
