i was born in texas but am extremely glad I moved to Cali. sorry to bash, but this had to be said.

You guys drive 50 on the freeway, its disgusting.

No one has patience even tho you drive slow, weird isn't it.

Construction everywhere... so annoying, more delays and congestion everywhere.

I got in 2 cussing and middle finger showdowns. I am surprised that I am still alive, thought someone would shoot me.

invest in carpool lanes.

too many airheads not putting their signal on, everyone uses their horn like it is normal to use it. Use it when needed, not when you want to get around me while I wait for a mall parking spot as someone is backing out.

speaking of malls, northstar mall is horrible, there was not enought oxygen for the amount of people in there.

rant over.

I had to endure several yrs of the shittiest drivers while in SoCal.
Carpool lanes?, Many Angelinos don't know WTF they are for because quite a few drivers in SoCal would zig zag in & out of the CarPool lanes' DOUBLE LINES! IDIOTS!

Yeah, I'd have to say the driving is much faster on the 405, 5, 610, etc. :rolleyes

You have to go to San Diego to find the only semi-competent drivers in all of Cali.

where in town are folks driving 50?

I was going 75 thru a construction zone just past north star mall the other day, in the rain, and I was still passed by about 4 cars. Whizzing by too. those mofo;s had to be going near 90.
the speed limit is 60 over there.

You have to plan your day around traffic in Ca.

Don't forget the 60 or the 57 or 23 ...

I do love that I can drive 85 on the freeway and have a cop go flying by me without thoughts of a speeding ticket. That's the good thing about Cali driving, I guess.

ok first off,

I never said the speed limit was 50, i said/what I implied is a GOOD amount of people drive below the speed limit.

I guess we are missing the point. My point is Texas drivers are horrible, assholes, and slow. Freeway traffic is a bitch, yes I admit in Cali, its worse here, but Texas street congestion is much much worse, and street congestion is more on my mind than the freeway. I simply just plan my timing with driving.

I live right smack on the 405 parking lot in Long Beach california, so don't question my knowledge on the LA area.

LOL at your homerism with your town. I was born there, and love visiting, but that is it: visiting. It is okay to hate some things about your town, not everything is perfect. If you think everything is fine with SA driving then so be it, i know you need to be able to go to sleep.

Phil, Have you driven in Houston? I think that city has the heavy footed drivers there since the slow pokes are here in SA. I find it interesting when it gets REAL foggy here and everyone drives very slow...I drove over the speed limit in SoCal fog...the stuff we get here is nothing compared to that.

And I'm confused on your rant. In the first rant, I thought you meant you were sick of people here driving 50 (below the speed limit) on the freeway. But now you say you are talking about street traffic. So you want people to drive 50 on the streets?? :wtf

Okay.

I lived in L.A. for 17 years. And now I've lived here for four. Complaining about SA traffic/drivers compared to L.A. area is a joke.

I have never noticed people driving slow here on the freeway -- most people drive around 70.

The street traffic is nothing compared to L.A. street traffic (ever get stuck on Sepulveda going over the hill? ever think that it would be smarter to take Wilshire to go downtown rather than the freeway?)

The one thing that sucks here is construction. But it sucked in L.A. too. For THREE YEARS they were working on La Cienega/Wilshire next to my office. THREE YEARS!

Its a big change going from SA to Lansing also.

I think MDOT (their equivalent to TxDOT) doesn't believe in turn arrows. I have seen very few! Same goes though as what Sara said about people driving in the rain. Rain and snow seem to encourage people to go faster.

Not crazy at all. People in Houston drive like maniacs and the traffic is 5 times worse than here.

I have been all over the country, and for a city of 1.2 million people, San Antonio drivers are alot better than other cities I've been to of smaller size.

If you hate San Antonio drivers, you are pretty sensitive. Don't ever go to D.C. or Baltimore, you'd commit suicide.

I drove through Houston a couple of months back during rush hour and I would say it is similar to LA traffic. But I did notice that they are expanding and building new highways to relieve the gridlock. Will have to visit after they finish all the construction.

As far as SA drivers are concerned, most drive fast. But there are those few slow drivers that don't move to the right when someone wants to pass them. That is my only complaint. Other than that, the driving in SA is much more relaxed. I feel like I'm driving through a retirement community when I'm on the 410.

As far as gridlock on the main streets, you have to get to know your hood. There are several ways to get around the traffic. You just have to know which streets to take. On Bandera, there are plenty of residential streets that will save you time if you know the route to take.

In LA, there aren't easy ways to get around the traffic. I've tried every conceivable route to save time from downtown to Santa Monica. You just have to bite the bullett and stay on 10. And when you talk about traffic in LA, you are talking about miles and miles and miles of gridlock.

Yeah, as much as I hate and complain about the traffic in SA, I have to remind myself sometimes that I used to drive downtown from the southwest side every morning during rush hour, and that very little is worse than that.

However, since Houston opened the Westpark Tollway, driving into Houston from SA has improved pretty dramatically. I'm not battling high blood pressure by the time I arrive at my parents' house anymore :lol

"The" is an easier way to say PARKING LOT!
Comparing SA traffic to any other major city is ridiculous. Once you hit Fontana the traffic is bumper to bumper in the L.A. area, that is why I avoid that place. My top 3 worst traffic cities:
3. Houston
2. Atlanta
1. L.A.

Anyone notice how California people put "The" in front of there freeways..."the 405" while we here in the SA area just say 410 or 1604.

I do it. I have tried to break the habit of doing it with San Antonio freeways, but I still say "the 10" and "the 410".

HAHA Kori...when some friends of mine moved back here after 10 years in San Diego It would annoy the Holy Hell out of me when they would say "the 410" or "the 35". I finally told them we dont put "the" in front of our freeways..they looked at me like i was on crack for even noticing something like that :smokin

one gripe that I do have about San Antonio are the slow drivers that like to be on the fast lane and NOT move over. I'm pretty much ALWAYS on the fast lane, coming from Houston I'm used to going FAST. well over here, many time i have experienced drivers going about 60 (on 410E) in the fast lane. ok fine, but move your ass over when I get to you!! :cuss
it's highly annoying...

Well..............you're fine as hell! You can say whatever you want! As for everyone else if you don't like SA traffic, do like Eddie Murphy said and "get the fuck out"! That is all!

Hmmmmm

Maybe you should slow down considering the speed limit is 60mph, therefore, the people going 60 in the fast lane are right on the money.

Slow down.

As a girl, you are already a bad enough driver.

No need to add speed to the list also.

What a bunch of bullshit girls are bad drivers. Our insurance is less than guys for a reason. :p: Guys take more risks driving... but I know some bad male and female drivers. I hate when cars go slow in the fast lane as well... if a car wants to go the speed limit, that's what the middle lane is for.

:lmao
I agree - that is annoying as hell - but they are actually doing the speedlimit.
The limit is 60MPH over on 410 east. :lol I chalk it up to the hwy being so old over there, after they update (in 2012??) they should raise the limit. :fro

I guess I'm just not used to it. it really is different here.
I know the speed limit on 410 is 60 but you can at LEAST go 65 if on the fast lane. people actually go under 60 sometimes, and it's pretty frustrating
when the lane is nice and clear or if other drivers are actually driving fast, I usually go about 70MPH
