Just another reason there needs to be a D1 college playoff.
I dont wann hear no other team saying they are #1 .....no fucking one knows who #1 is.
Mich. got their asses handed to them by USC who lost to Oregon St. and UCLA......Mich. barely lost to Ohio St.
Who the hell knows who #1 is without a playoff?? Fuck the BCS

Sign me up! I'm fully on the playoff bandwagon. Cinderella is supposed to dance until midnight, not until 11 because of her driver's incompetance. Teams like this is where the ratings are at. I'd bet my bottom dollar that after a game like today's to reach a Title game, an Ohio State/Boise State matchup would attract more viewers than Ohio State/Florida.

...after watching Boise State play, i think they are good, but they can't hang with most of the top 10. watching the whole game i just don't see how you can say that....they beat a good OU team but not one that was a top 10 team, imo.

BSU has a chance against anybody. That's why a playoff is needed. You never know what can happen.

Because they were controlling a good OU team offensively and defensively until a fluke bounce on a punt snowballed into a full on collapse. The difference between good teams and great teams is making the plays that matter most. How the hell do you say they aren't when they made every one that mattered?
Yes, they failed to get the stop in OT. Yeah, they failed to a stop at the end of the fourth. In OT they weren't focused and in the blink of an eye, it cost them. In the fourth, they got conservative and in the blink of an eye, it cost them.
Don't fault a team that did it simply because you don't think they can.
It one takes one underdog to become a Cinderella. Maybe they can't win four games in a row against top-15 teams, but if the playoff system was a simple two or three games, then perhaps.

why even play when 50% of college football's participants are inelligible for the nat'l title before the season is even kicked off? boise state has litterally done everything right this season, and it doesn't get them anywhere near the title game.
the BCS is a horrible format and illogical to defend.

...but thats part of my point, i don't think ou is that great. to me, boise state beat a top 12 team and are about a top 10 team themselves. i don't like boise state's odds against:
1. USC
2. ohio state
3. florida
4. michigan
5. lsu
6. wisconsin
...whats my point? well, lets not confuse boise state as a team that can win it all, thats ludicrous, imo. BUT, i agree, that this is a good step in the right direction towards a playoff. there is huge difference between a team that is very good (boise state) and one that can or should win it all. today, USC would have destroyed boise state...and thats a fair comparison...cause its teams like that they are going to have to defeat.

Don't like the odds? What the fuck are you, a bookie? A vegas casino? A degenerate gambler? Sports is decided on the field. Boise State has earned the right to play on.
Did the Jets like their odds against the Colts? Did America like its odds against Russia? Did NC State like its odds against Houston? Did Boston College like their odds against Miami? Did Villanova like its odds against Georgetown? Did Douglas like his odds against Tyson? Did the #8 seeded Nuggets like their odds against the #1 seeded Sonics in 1994? Needing four full rounds to win the Title, did the #6 seeded Rockets like their odds in 1995? Did the double-digit underdogs Patriots like their odds against the Rams? Did outta nowhere no-name George Masion like its odds against UConn.
The above is why we watch.

...thats fine and all, but you still have not adressed how good ou is, they aren't that good. and boise state is going to have to beat those teams more than once in a playoff....i don't see it, and those trick plays won't get it done.

Boise State:
13-0.
One Top 10 win.
One Quality win over team who beat Top 5 team.
I think the three of those combined atleast gets you into a +1 game.

They aren't that good? Why? Because they were without arguably the best player in college football for half the year? A player whom they had back tonight with three weeks of #1 carry practice and fresh legs to boot...
Because they had two losses, including a loss that was really a win thanks to the boobs running the replay in the Pac-10?
They were essentually a one-loss team. Their only real loss came to a top-20 team and their biggest rival. They were the best team in the Big-12, a POWER conference that has sent a team to the Title game close to half the times since the mid-90's. Were they top-3 calibur? Probably not. Were they a legit top-10 team? Without a doubt. Top-7. With health and a replay ref who can see, probably.
As for crazy talk, perhaps... but thanks to the real crazies, we'll never know.

hey, they should be in a playoff, you'll get no argument here. they are a good team, i just don't want to hear about they would have won the title or this and that crap if ohio state loses. i can't see a world where they can beat ohio state and USC...and thats what matters when someone says they can win it all. do they deserve a shot...sure, but there is also a big difference between deserving a shot and being able to win it all.
yes, i wish it was USC vs. Ohio State...i think those are the two best teams, but we don't get to see it. thats why i keep mentioning them. but congrats to Boise State...good win.

You can't say with any real certaintly that a team is in or out of a game before it's played. Terrible games, injuries... they occur. I'm simply saying Boise State has the right to play on. Whether they get beat is up to them. They clearly have more talent than most thought and clearly are more capable than most gave them credit for.
I think they stand as good a shot to beat Ohio State as any team. They may have played up to their competition today, but they deserve to go as far as they can, not be forced to stop short because they don't meet the preconceived notions of what good nor the requirement of being a BCS conferenced school...

No offense, but you are an idiot......how in the hell can you say Ohio State is a #1 team when they squeaked by Mich. who got their asses torn by USC. USC lost to Oregon State and an unranked UCLA???? How can anyone assume anyone is #1 without proving it on the field???
Remember when they Houston Rockets were a #8 seed and won the NBA title in the 90's???? What if they just said the Spurs and the #1 seeded team in the east should have played in a BCS championship without a playoff??
Man this is just fucking dumb to be arguing this.

How is it that a money-grubbing organization like the NCAA would NOT want a football playoff?
Shit, they're quick to fine schools, conferences and boosters for giving students hand-outs, and make money hand over fist for the big time bowl games, yet pass on the chance to get even fatter in the wallet because they don't want to interrupt the student athelete's studies?!?!? That doesn't seem to be the case in NCAA basketball, does it?
Everyone knows good and goddamn well that a playoff system is the way to go. Anyone who thinks otherwise is completely foolish.

actually, i think USC is the #1 team in the country. not only did ohio state win, they won at home while USC destroyed michigan. what do we know? if the team is ranked USC will dominate, they, obviously had a tough time getting it together for oregon state and ucla....but not against the top teams. anyway, USC had their chance and blew it....but that does not mean they are not the best team...cause they are.

One more thing before I retire to sleep.
Boise State has alot of great trick plays that they didnt even run in the game tonight. They use many of those plays during the season.
You can say what you want, but the TWO trick plays they ran tonight resulted in scores. Not many teams in the top 10 have seen those plays run against them before............to me, that gives Boise State an edge.....at least of some sort.
Later.

IMO this was probably the best game I've seen since Texas won the championship with Vince Young.... fucking awesome game.
I swear Im not biased, I dont have a favorite NCAA team and just happened to have it on TV while playing the computer, one of the few games that actually got me freaking pumped. I didnt care who won, it was just great football.

THis game was won on the trenches.
ANd Boise can compete with anyone in the trenches.
As far as USC goes.
They can defeat USC. Ian Johnson is a great runner, and Peterson has more peters than Pete Carroll. ANd that's not a knock on Carroll.

Yes, USC's freshie and soph o line outperformed.
Yet BOise's OLine was a real unit, as if they've been playing all 4 years together.
And about USC beating up on Boise because of superior passing, not so fast.
USC is mortal, and Peterson and Co could devise a plan to stop JDB.
Boise St.'s risky offense can catch USC's d offguard.
So it'd all come down to exectution and heart, and in that, BOise would win.

You don't know that is true. You think Boise doesn't deserve the chance to try?
There was more than one "expert" saying how Boise would not be able to keep up with OU for a variety of reasons. They went on the field and went nose to nose with a team that, going into this game, was playing as well as anyone outside of Columbus and took them out.
Maybe Boise does get killed by SC or Ohio State or whomever.....but maybe they don't. There is no way that anyone can say with any accuracy or credibility that Boise State has absolutely, positively, 100% chance of not beating anyone in the country. There is a very good chance that they could go up against an OSU or USC and get killed...on the other hand, they could just as well pull off the upset of the century.
My point to all this is that they should be given the chance to try.

Uhm. USC playwed Michigan in their own backyard, too. Second, USC beat Michigan by 14. Ohio St. was up by double-digits to Michigan when Henne through a long pass on 4th-and-forever that should have never been allowed. So don't start the USC is 100x better than Ohio St. crap. Besides, like you even said, USC LOST TO TWO teams outside the top-10 (top-25?) while Ohio St. won ALL their games.
