Not even give Manu a touch. Let Tony dribble it down, design some half ass pick and roll play with Tim that Minnesota was all over, and have the third option be Matt Bonner for three.

Unfrigginbelievable.

I don't think Bonner was the third option. I think Duncan was a decoy and the play was designed for Bonner. Tony executed it at the exact right time, Bonner just missed.

Looked like a damn good play to me. It was obviously drawn up for Bonner to get that three wide open when KG went to help. Bonner had been hitting big shots all game.

No, you design a play for a Matt Bonner to take a three in a tie game. When your idea of a high percentage shot is 25 feet from the basket, there's something wrong with your coaching.

according to some posters on this board the team is alright. Of course they'll continue to say this after we lost to a .500 team in OT. What blind loyalty. More fans should be more critical of their team, it's called tough love. Or else people will view each game with rose colored glasses.

He hits that shot, that gives him more confidence down the line and into the playoffs to hit the next big shot. It was the perfect play call and one that timvp predicted as the timeout was called.

I don't think it was a good play because we should have given to one of the big three, because they are usually the ones taking clutch shots. Bonner is just now finding his rhythm with the Spurs.

you dont take a 3 when all you need is a 2

you go for the inside bucket

I don't mind bonner taking that shot in the 2nd qtr

but no way in hell do i want the ball in his hands at the end of regulation

You need a math lesson. Two guys in the NBA hit that shot more than they miss it. If you run that play for Barry I might be with you.

And just because you predicted it doesn't make it a good call, it just makes Pop's idiocy predictable.

Matt Bonner isn't paid to take clutch shots at the end of regulation. That would be in the job description of Ginobili, Duncan, and to a lesser extent Parker. I think that was a dumb play.

It's the beginning of January in a tie game. If you can give someone confidence by drawing up a play for him and hitting it, you do that. Pop did the same for players like Stephen Jackson and even Manu before Manu was star.

It was a perfect situation to build on Bonner's improved play. He hits it and this forum is celebrating.

He missed it and the T'Wolves win in OT so now Spurs fans are crying in their soup :cry

Obstructed_View

I guess that's what happens when you have a psychology major as your coach. Maybe the Spurs should hire a math major.

To be perfectly honest, if Bonner hits that shot I'm even more critical of the decision. Taking a three when you are tied is STUPID. If you dribble out the clock, you only need one or two. What's wrong with a drive to the basket and actually taking the layup? It seems like Tony Parker hit those at a rather high percentage at one point.

:lmao @ Spurs fans think that a game in January should be treated as Game 7 of the NBA Finals.

How do you think Pop helped players like Stephen Jackson and Manu Ginobili become big time clutch players? Do you think he did it by never giving them a chance late in a game? Throw a scrub a bone every now and then.

Tie game in January, I expect Pop to let someone other than the Big Three to try to win it. The whole defense is keying on those three and any misdirection play will leave a player wide open. It worked and the Spurs got the shot they wanted.

Stephen Jackson sucked at one point until Pop showed confidence in him. Manu was a pretty good player, but when Pop gave him the rock to win or lose games, that's when he became a star.

To a lesser degree, giving a guy like Bonner a shot to win the game in a situation where at worst it goes to overtime, is a good idea. Not only will he be wide open, it's a good chance to see what he can do when the pressure is on.

And for those saying why shoot a three ... uh, have you watched Bonner? He's a three-point shooter. If I want him to take a wide open jumper to win the game, it might as well be in a place where he's comfortable on the floor.

Good play call. Good execution of the play. If it goes in, Spurs fans go to sleep with visions of a three-point victory dancing in their heads.

It wasn't a great call to win the game, but Pop seemed to be testing Bonner all game to see what he can do. I wish we had won the game but I think its crucial to test the young guys exactly at this point in the season where they hopefully know enough of the system to contribute but its not too late in the season where we need to settle on our rotation. Pop has to know if Bonner can start taking some of Horry's minutes. I'm not sure what verdict if any Pop came away with from this game but ultimately I'm glad Pop gave Bonner a chance.

I'd like to see Pop give Butler another chance in the post to see if we can find a second low post scoring option.

We won't win a title if the bench players don't contribute something and now is the time to start figuring that out.

Our veterans like Horry and Finley aren't going to do shit for us in the regular season, if maybe ever again. The young guys have to play.

We didn't lose the game at the very last possession ... Stop critics Popovic after each tied loss.
Bonner has a good game and it's his job to shoot the ball ... Manu is horrible at this point this season, bowen too ...
Jordan often gave the ball to hodges, paxson, kerr to make this kind of shots. Just look at this as a test for playoff ...

TP are great so far ... TD seem tired mentally, I hope he can produce in playoff.

I wish Tony had a better outside jumper. If you look at the end, the Wolves were ready to double who ever was getting the ball other than Bonner. Good setup, just a bad break. Bonner is no Horry!

Look TimVP, I hear what you're saying, and while I agree that it's noble to want to get Bonner's confidence up for a January game, the play still fails what Bill Simmons would call "the common sense test."

No matter how big picture your thinking is or how inventive your playcall is, at the end of the game it's just common sense to get the ball to one of your best players. Whenever you see buzzer beating shots in the 4th quarter or OT, it's almost always a team's best players who take them.

While I'm all for playing Bonner more and making him a regular part of the rotation, I think Pop should have realized the risk he was playing with. It wasn't as simple as, "Well if he misses it, there's always OT." It was more like, "If he misses it, we lose." Just like the Charlotte game (or Game 7 last year if you prefer) we expended too much energy in coming back and didn't have anything left in the tank for OT so it would've made more sense to go for the win with a high percentage shot. And a high percentage shot is one taken by our big three.

I'm not saying if Manu took the last shot we'd have won for sure (as witnessed by Game 7), but I like his chances more than Bonner's.

Just ask yourself this question. Do you think Bonner takes that shot if we were down one instead of tied?

Yup.

January games once again, mean more to you armchair quarterbacks, than they do in real life.

Face it, this spurs team needs Bonner to be a baller.

So far this is the worst Spurs team in a long time.

you all are a bunch of retards. Poppovich has probably forgotten more about basketball, than all of your dumbass know combined!!. Don't you think he knows his team and what the hell he's doing ?, I would think so... morons.

You look for a scapegoat always after a loss, instead of admitting your team is playing like shit right now. They look like a weak Eastern Conference team at the moment, but it's Pop's fault, right.

Are you Pop? Or his wife?

:pctoss

Not even give Manu a touch. Let Tony dribble it down, design some half ass pick and roll play with Tim that Minnesota was all over, and have the third option be Matt Bonner for three.

Unfrigginbelievable.

By the powers granted to me, I hereby grant clemency to T Park for all that he did or did not do. SequSpur will be granted clemency once he sips the sweet nectar of a Bonner game-winning attempt.

Bonner sucks.

Except they all count towards home court.

Just so we're clear Tpark...

On Friday night if we're tied at the end, let's go ahead and put in Bonner, Oberto, Beno, Eric Williams, and Finley.

And Finley gets to inbound, but not shoot. You're saying that's a great idea, because it's a January game....

It will be interesting to see if San Antonio finishes one game behind Dallas at the end of the season.

True, if you mean Post-Season. If you don't mean Post-Season, it won't be that interesting to me.
