I'm at the Angelfire resort in New Mexico learning how to ski.... :downspin: :downspin: :downspin: :dizzy

There is a base of about 52 inches of snow and it's supposed to snow another foot later today. Weather Manny needs to confirm.

Anyhow... I just thought I would share that with you all.

I've already reserved the TV room for tomorrow's Dallas/Spurs game... as there was no way I was going to miss that one.

Sounds like you have some nice snow.

I went skiing in Pennsylvania 2 wks ago, and they had to make snow...it was ok, but I will never go to east coast to ski again.

I usually go to Deer Valley or Sun Valley....both of those resorts are awesome.

Wish I were with you.

I had tons of funs skiing, lots of fun, until I popped both my ACL and MCL. :lol

My ski instructor in the Alps said every ski instructor he knew had had a least 2 knee operations.

The day I popped my ligaments, a lady disconnected her calf muscles from her knee. They slid down inside skin to her ankles.

Enjoy! :lol

You know, he adds the laughing emoticons as if that's going to happen to everyone just learning to ski. Bad news though chief, not everyone is an uncoordinated idiot like yourself. Some of us have athletic ability that allow us to do things such as ski and play sports.

Cross-country skiing isn't bad exercise.

Downhill skiing is for suicidals.

I hit deer valley a few years ago and there were too many dentists snowplowing. It was like skiing a giant slalom course using dentists for gates. Was that you Jim? I was the one on the K2-4's going mach 3 busting air coming out of the trees right in front of you LOL.

There's just something inherently wrong with travelling at mach 3 with no brakes...I'm too chicken.

But have fun anyway!

oddly enough, the faster and more agressively you ski, the better the skis work to steer, cut, stop, etc...at least up to the point that they start to chatter, which is really really fast.

New Mexico is having a great snow season and it's expected to only get better in the coming 2 months.

Angel Fire, Taos, Red River, Santa Fe...heck even the Sandias and Ski Apache (Ruidoso) have been blanketed here lately.

Enjoy it. This is shaping up to be the best snow winter in the last decade.

I used to ski all the time, but haven't in about 20 years. One time, we were up at Big Bear and my dad, his friend, and my sister got drunk and made me drive home (I was 18) down that windy moutain road. That's probably why I hate those kind of roads to this day.

My parents used to have a vacation home up by Shaver Lake, CA. There was some ski area around there which was great because it was never crowded. But then it became overun with all these dentists and they had to shut it down.

Most people I know these days snowboard. It seems to almost be more popular than skiing. I'm considering giving it a shot this year instead of the skis.

It's a great ab workout (picking yourself up off the snow that is). The one time I tried it, I was wiping out so hard I could hear people on the lift saying "OOOOOOOH SHIIIIIIIIT. THINK HE IS OKAY?!?!?!"

Now, I'm not the world's greatest at skiing, but I'm pretty decent. Snowboarding ripped my ass up though. The instructor was saying you really need about a week to get it down, especially if you are someone who has skiied a lot.

you been to Sun Valley, ID? shit, i use to go there all the time....thats a VERY nice Ski Resort. there are places that are more expensive and there are better mountains, but i have never been to a place that is nicer. whips Aspen, Telluride, Vail, etc, if you ask me.

...now, that i live in Montana i am only a few miles from the Snowbowl which is actually a very good mountain...simple, but very good. can't wait to go this weekend...suppose to snow today, tomorrow, and sunday, which is good since its 25-54 right now. i am hoping for 35-70 by weekends end....

I agree. I lived in Idaho and Colorado and I'd take Sun Valley over damn near every other place I've been to. I do like Mary Jane in Winter Park though, it's affordable and the mountain is just as good as Vail. Plus it's closer to Denver.

Hey, johnsmith, fuck you, asshole.

I said the French Alps SKI INSTRUCTORS, who are very thoroughly trained and certified by the French govt, ALL had operations on their knees. We can assume they are long-time, extremely experienced skiers who are very probably more coordinated and in much better shape than the amateur, overweight, outta-shape vacation skiers.

Anybody know the stats for professional downhill skiers who have had knee operations?

Knee injuries are definitely an occupational hazard of skiing, especially is you ski diamond and double diamond stuff...you have to keep your bindings set really tight to keep from losing a ski while banging the bumps...I managed to survive it for years with just minor tweaks and then blew an ACL snowboarding in Big Sky...

So I came back without a broken bone, bruise or major fall....

First day I fell about 10 times in 3 hours....
Second day I fell 3 times in 6 hours of skiing.... and I got to try some blue slopes...

Overall a memorable experience.... the Spurs crashed the experience with a loss to Dallas.
