It has now been sitting as a meaningless piece of history for 87 years because Americans are too backwards and ignorant to pass a piece of legislation saying what should have been said a long time ago.

Is there anything wrong with any of this?

Section 1. Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex.
Section 2. The Congress shall have the power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article.
Section 3. This amendment shall take effect two years after the date of ratification.

Pitiful really. The home of the free and the brave my ass. People are to damned cowardly to allow freedom.

If you're talking about the 2 years thing, I guess they needed time after WWI to sort things out.

Yep, a gay thread, since anything that doesn't contain machismo disdain for rights has to do with homosexuality.

No, this is equal rights. It was created by a woman, Alice Paul, and doesn't say one word about homosexuals.

Learn some history, damn.

Look around at our society today. Do you really feel like this amendment is needed? I don't.

I have proof that the amendment is needed.

It was not passed. It has not been able to gain the ratification of 36 states.

Here is proof number 2, gay marriage is prohibited in the majority of the states.

That is clear and present proof.

You're a white male. Of course you see this as unnecessary. If you were a woman making 78 cents of every dollar that a man earns, you would.

Are women earning 78 cents on the dollar of what a man earns because of discrimination, or because of different career priorities?

They make 78 cents on the dollar, because without an ERA, corporate America can get away with it, whatever their excuse. At the highest levels (CEO) with women who have TOTALLY dedicated themselves to the workforce, the inequity is WORSE.

What is an ERA going to accomplish on that issue that the Equal Pay Act of 1963 does not?

Hey they have Nancy, the most powerful woman in the world. Didn't you
see her flex her muscle. (But have never seen her blink. Those eyes are
open forever)
