This thread is exactly what Cuban is all about. He doesn't care about the river (Accually he had donated money to clean it up) What he cares about is rating and making money for his team.
Winning is part of that, but so is drawing attention in any way he can (Like the signing of Rodman). Saying things about the team main rival is one of the things that sports are all about.
The Spurs mouth piece would be Pop and Duncan, both of which have to maintain a certain "seperation" from saying such things, but Cuban doesn't get on the floor, he doesn't play the game. He is just a "Fan"
He says these things to draw attention. Do you really think that he cares about the Spur or there fans? No, but he does like it when they disscuse his team and his antics ... It adds to the ratings the next time the teams meet.
He doesn't do this against any other team ... Not even Houston, because then it would just get old. Every sport has its rivelries (Yanks - Soxs) (Horns - Aggies) you get the idea. Saying these things is just part of the game.

As for being in the huddle ... If I owner a pro team and could get in the huddle. I would in a heartbeat (I don't think that he is stupid enough to think he could call the pays, thats why he hires a coaching staff)

I have no problem with Cuban boosting the rivalry and think what he has done for the Mavericks franchise is great. Talk shit about the Spurs or their players...that is what you do in a rivalry....taking shots at the city is IMO crossing the line and doesn't belong in a basketball rivalry.

Well, duh! That's what makes him classless, saying things that he doesn't mean just to get attention and earn more $.

Let me understand this:
* Dallas beat us.
* They go to the finals
* Miami wins the champioship
* and we are his target? Why not the Miami Heat? Why us? That loss was not our fault!!! :lol

Hard to drum up a "rivalry" with a team that (a) you only play 2x a year in the regular season and (b) embarrassed you badly on the national stage the only time you met them in the playoffs.

His act is old and tired, and essentially closed last summer when his team got hammer fucked by a mediocre Miami squad that spotted them a couple of games. The whole "Cuban as rebel" shtick was fresh...like 7 years ago.

Talk shit about the Spurs or their players...that is what you do in a rivalry....taking shots at the city is IMO crossing the line and doesn't belong in a basketball rivalry.
In a rivalry, you don't make it about the players. Players move on or retire, you have to talk about the things that don't change. You have to talk about the city.
There are rare cases where it can become about the player, but those don't last. You need only look at the Pacers and Knicks. Does anyone care about them anymore sense Miller retired? No. Because it was based on the player and not the team.
With the Mavs, you could have said four years ago that you hate the Mavs because of Nash and Finley, but where would your hatred be now ... It has to be about the two teams and cities and not the players.
Cuban has probably said something about every Spurs player, but the comment that this and other threads were all about ... The one that the paying FANS care most about is the one about the city.
That's how you get a rivalry to become must see TV. Fans of basketball will now tune into the next meeting of the Mavs and Spurs not just to see a great basketball game, but to see what Cuban wears, to see what the fan banners say.
Its all about the money, to say that he is stupid because he wants to make money in one of his businesses is just crazy, to say that his strategy with the Spurs isn't working that magic is ignoring the truth as evidenced by this thread.
"At least the crappy river knows how it feels to celebrate a championship"
This is the best one, and the one (If made) most likely to get air time in the crowd

I disagree...you talk about the teams...regardless of who is on them. You don't make it personal, it should always be about basketball.
To quote many on this site...City smack is weak.
