They just reported on ESPN that Duncan is third in the nba in getting his shot blocked.

Randolph and Curry being the first two. Just goes to prove he needs to take it with authority.

Those happen to be three guys with the best post moves in the NBA... who don't happen to jump very much. They're also pretty good at collecting their own blocks and putting them back up.

That happens when you live inside, it's going to happen. Particuly if you aren't athletic, like the 3 players mentioned.

Duncan's moves need to be quicker and less predictable. I think that would help a little bit.

I'm not sure that I would say that Duncan isn't athletic, there is far too much evidence to the contrary. But he doesn't elevate a lot and even his shots in the post are relatively flat.

None of those guys is terribly athletic. Not terrible.

All three happen to be gifted interior scorers who take a lot of shots inside. The stat is slightly bogus.

Duncan used to be very underated athletically, but these past few years he has definitly declined in terms of his jumping, quickness etc... He is definitly not athletic when compared to his competition.

dude has no lift. He may also lead the NBA in getting stuffed by the rim.

It would be more interesting to see that stat as a percentage of shots taken, not total shots.

I'm going to check the stats on 82games to see if Duncan is getting blocked more this year than normal. Any guesses?

I bet it's not much different over the last 2 seasons, but up from 3-4 years ago.

Actually, I think Duncan has been leading in getting blocked the most a number of seasons, I remember that he led with Jermaine O'neal in the 03-04 campaign. That's how it goes when you take a majority of you shot's against other Centers close to the basket.

i'm willing to bet it's about the same, just a few this year that are reverse posterized (if that makes any sense).

I'm gonna guess yes and by a significant margin.

exactly

SHaq should be up there as well

It wouldn't surprise if when all is said and done tha shaq AND duncan go down as one of the 10 most blocked players in nba history

I'm more surprised at shaq, as TD is gettin his weak shot blocked quite often

The answer is no. He's getting the same percentage of his shots blocked now that he was back in 2002-03. Both this year and that year, he got 9% of his inside shots blocked. Since then it's varied between 6% and 9%.

I wonder how often Yao gets blocked by people other than Nate Robinson.

I thought only white men couldn't jump.
