Tony had a great overall game. 26 pts on 57% shooting (12-21) and 7 assists.

Manu was sucking ass until he turned it on in the 4th Q. The game was never in question (in my mind) but Manu made sure we got the W with scoring, assisting and stealing the rock late in the game.

Props to both.

What is this? You have to start a thread propping one and bashing the other.

That's how Spurs fans roll.

I've been proping both since 2004, when I started posting.

By the way, I'm not a Spurs fan, I'm a Manu fan, remember? :spin

I think spurs fans are beyond praising one while bashing the other. They are both awesome and without either one this team will get smoked.

Manu was great defensively, and Parker was lighting up on the offensive side. Duncan does great on both. This wins us games.

Game was very much in question at 76-73, what are you talking about?

Manu rocked the 4th ala 2005 Finals, no doubt.
Tony great game also, kept Ai running.

Looked to me like Manu took the game on his shoulders in the 4th. He was everywhere giving it his best frantic effort that we've come to love. I especially liked the fast break where he got a return pass from TP and while in midair simply patted it back to TP for an easy layup.

They work well together and never seem to be surprised by an unexpected pass.

Manu was directly responsible for our 12 last points.

Tony kicked ass all night.

I'm a Manu fan, but Tony is making me proud.

As long as we badmouth Duncan, maybe it will balance out.

Tim's not a very good free-throw shooter.

hmm. 2 of the 4 steals were streak-free, clean as clean gets strips of the beloved AI, including the one that sealed the game for good after the touch pass to TP for the layup. The man's hands were lightning and the vaunted crossover was no match.

except if you are down so much for 3/4 of the game and can not come back

it is a shame that other players never get credit for the first 3/4 of the game
just the ones that make a basktet or steal in the last few minutes of the game

this goes to all players on all teams

give props to tp for catching that pass
some former spur players would not catch that pass and then it would be a t.o

well you get over it already. In the real world, giving someone an extra prop or two doesn't necessarily require one to knock or take something away from the others.

Most people on here acknowledge the other team's efforts along with Manu's crunch time plays. And MOST people here can acknowledge that before Manu iced the game, it was up for grabs with a determined Denver team. That has nothing to do with dismissing Tim and Tony's previous efforts.
Manu was the closer that's all.

We were in a good position with Tony and Tim's offense, but because of Tim's missed free throws we weren't out of the clear. THIS is hard to argue against, so go on and try it, Ducks:

5:24 Manu Ginobili makes free throw 1 of 2 81-75
5:24 Manu Ginobili makes free throw 2 of 2 82-75
5:01 Manu Ginobili defensive rebound 82-75
4:13 82-75 Earl Boykins lost ball (Manu Ginobili steals)
2:51 Manu Ginobili makes two point shot 84-77
1:44 Manu Ginobili makes 16-foot two point shot 86-80
1:35 86-80 Marcus Camby lost ball (Manu Ginobili steals)
1:31 Tony Parker makes layup (Manu Ginobili assists) 88-80
0:30 Manu Ginobili makes driving layup 90-83
0:25 90-83 Allen Iverson lost ball (Manu Ginobili steals)
0:22 Tony Parker makes layup (Manu Ginobili assists) 92-83
0:00 End of the 4th Quarter
0:00 End Game

Yeah, that was a nice finisher. They had great communication in the final stretch.

Earlier though, Tim...missed Manu's sketchy lob pass however.

ducks
01-11-2007, 09:22 PM
so it is ok to suck all game except for the last 5 mintues of the game?
even posters in this thread have said he did this game
in the game blog I said he played decent
then he went off on the last 5 minutes

he did well
had he not stepted up who knows if the spurs would have won?
thank god a member of the spurs did and the SPURS won the game

Well, yeah his shot was off in the first half but I never argued that he wasn't stinking it up in the first half, but I wasn't so bothered by it because he looked to be coming back down to earth from last week. But I've seen Timmy do the exact same thing in some games, where he'd be 2 for 8, and then explode in the third or fourth and make 5 for 5 or 8 for 10 in a span of three minutes!
So why are you taking issue with the fact that Manu DIDN'T throw in the towel after having a crappy start? Players all go through moments where they can't play all 4 quarters perfectly! It's a weak case, nonetheless. We all know you're a Manu Malcontent.

Don't try to magnify his poor shooting percentage in the first half, because Tim last week had some pretty bad percentages as well 5 of 13, I think was one of them. It's the law of averages when it comes to shooting. Sometimes they have moments of lousy game. I won't argue against that.

I agree all players have shooting slumps
I applaud him when he is off he does other things

the law of averages always catch up to you

there is games tp can not make a shot
then there is games he can not miss
it happens to all players

it just blows my mind a guy does great 5 minutes of the game and he is the hero
and the other players are not what the newspapers write about

when you are off though you should not have the most shots

I'm not sure everybody understood that Tony taking care of the scoring in the first 3 or more and Manu taking the relay in the clutch is a spurs "modus vivendi".
that's how they are working.

Manu knows Tony will be starting strong (hopefully) and Tony knows Manu will be finishing strong (hopefully). It is part of Spurs game. both, and the others players, have assimilated that.
Of course, it can change from game to game, depending on their shape.

Sure that will be better if Manu could play at the same level during 4 quarters (which he's doing sometimes if needed) but maybe wouldn't he be so often clutch in the fourth.

So, I would say they're completing pretty well.
