Nothing a little hospital and surgery can't solve. I'll walk it off as soon as I get out of the wheelchair.

I did that too, I didn't see any ice on my sidewalk. I was checking to see if I could actually make it to work today. That would be a... no.

It's snowing big-time here in Portland today.

I got up early and went to my car for work an hour early.

All my doors were frozen shut and there was at least two inches of ice on front and rear view mirrors. All the side windows were frozen solid as well.

It took me nearly 40 minutes to get my car thawed out enough to drive.
But then I was driving it start to sleet and everything started to re freeze.

I was listening to the radio about how all the schools, colleges, and even Randoph Air Force Base is closed.

I am here at my booth in the mall. It ie pretty much me, office staff, housekeeping and maybe 6 tenants.
It totally makes sense for us to be here. :rolleyes

Maybe tonight when we get home we'll take some pics. The back deck was iced over and the patio table had icecicles on it.

That's the bad thing about service related jobs: they always want you in there. I remember when I worked at a restaurant in college. That fucking place never closed. :wtf

We wouldn't have any patrons, but the staff would all be there, doing nothing.

Be very careful driving home Angel. If the road are not prepped (salt and gravel) then these are probably the most dangerous conditions possible. Also keep your car heating to the max and don't start driving until the car is hot, that should prevent the falling rain adn/or ice to re-freeze on your car. If it's too hot inside just open the windows a little but keep the heater to the max.
Anybody driving in SA today, please be careful.

Does the city do anything to the roads/streets in cases like this? or are they just too rare?

They make a relatively half-ass attempt at spreading chemicals/gravel/salt on bridges & overpasses, but mostly they just close everything down ... like that enormous interchange at 410 & I10. They aren't really that well-equipped to handle a massive ice storm, because they aren't a normal occurance here at all. We only have really bad ones once every couple of years or so.

There's a bit to the weather advisory: "4X4 vehicles are not any safer in icy conditions than are 4X2's ... and wider tires are actually more dangerous."

I'm right by Rolling Oaks mall ... I can go get her on my son's skateboard. :lol

A 4x4 is better in these conditions than a 4x2, but it doesn't mean you don't have to be careful. AWD will help you, but won't save you if your not just as careful as with a 4x2.

Edit: and good winter tires make the biggest difference in cases like these.
