Harrington, Jackson at heart of Pacers-Warriors dealESPN.com

The Golden State Warriors have agreed to trade Troy Murphy, Mike Dunleavy, Ike Diogu and Keith McLeod to the Indiana Pacers for Al Harrington, Stephen Jackson, Sarunas Jasikevicius and Josh Powell, NBA front-office sources tell ESPN.com's Marc Stein.

The trade is scheduled to be announced later Wednesday.

i think this trade really boiled down to 2 players being moved, s. jax and dunleavy. jax has been a distraction to the pacers and they weren't going to keep him. nellie had been railing on dunleavy big time so it' was a matter of before he had to go. don't know who got the better deal...but at least they pulled the trigger and got something done.

The Warriors got robbed.

Diogu is a better player than Al Harrington right now, Murphy is a rich man's Jeff Foster to shore up the Pacers' frontcourt, and they picked up a versatile swingman in exchange for a pair of sucky, overpaid malcontents (Jackson and Jasikevicius).

And they came up with two rotation-quality white players in exchange for one, which is always a plus in Indiana.

"Raw-ass players"? Al Harrington is a low-percentage chucker who doesn't play defense; Stephen Jackson is a low-percentage chucker who doesn't play defense and is a cancer; Sarunas Jasikevicius is a low-percentage point guard who can't dribble and is slower than Chris Webber.

Good luck with that.

Report: Harrington, Jackson to Warriors in eight-player deal

January 17, 2007
BRISTOL, CONNECTICUT (TICKER) -- The Indiana Pacers reportedly have traded scorers Al Harrington and Stephen Jackson to the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday in an eight-player deal that netted Troy Murphy and Mike Dunleavy Jr.

ESPN.com, citing unidentified NBA front office sources, is reporting the deal, which also has guard Sarunas Jasikevicius and forward Josh Powell going to the Warriors and forward Ike Diogu and guard Keith McLeod going to the Pacers.

Both teams are on the fringes of the playoff race.

Golden State (19-20), which has not made the postseason since 1994, is one game behind Denver for the eighth and final spot in the Western Conference. Indiana (20-18), which has not missed the postseason since 1997, is seventh in the East.

Giving up Diogu is tough, but I think it's a good move for Golden St. Harrington is a very good player. Jackson could be good, but will probably get traded or something. He's not making to much money. And Jasikevicius i think only has 1 more year on his contract. And they were tired with Dunleavy. I think Bird thinks he can do something with Dunleavy. He might be right.

If he's just giving away players, I'm sure we could spare Beno for SJax. It only makes sense if he's unloading players (who he felt were hurting the team) for nothing. If he thinks he got absolutely anything in this deal he's an idiot. Troy Murphy is alright. But that's about it.

Bob Lanier
01-17-2007, 03:22 PM
Yeah, except Beno has $2.7 million left on his contract over two years, and Jackson has more than ten times that much over four.

Beno isn't nearly as good a scorer as Jackson, although if you gave him 12 shots a game he could probably hit 40% of them. He's a better passer than Jackson. He's also a slightly better rebounder than Jackson, which is pathetic.

Warriors gave up great players who did a lot of damage to the Spurs.

Pacers gave up people who didn't do well with Tinsley starting.

Warriors will get one hell of a small ball mentality, while Pacers will be tall and a juggernaut, but with a stupid playmaker to finish games with. I say lose-lose trade...but both coaches got the players they are most comfortable with in the long run.

I can't see them not working on another trade. the back-court is to crowded. if J-Rich moves to SF (with Sjax also playing SF) at leat Barnes should be available, maybe even Pietrus.

I would not mind Pietrus or Barnes in SA. GS seems a little thin at the 4/5, SA does not have the assets to make a deal with them. They don't need backcourt players...

A deal that would work out is Pietrus for Oberto.
Another deal would be: Oberto/Udrih/ Williams for Jasikevicius/ Pietrus

According to three NBA executives, the Pacers are now in talks to move Dunleavy to the Los Angeles Clippers for dynamic swingman Corey Maggette. Indiana has been after Maggette since last season when they were looking to trade Ron Artest.
