The sad thing is Pop will call the team soft and place blame elsewhere, and the media will lap it up.

Hate to agree with an Aggie, but you are right, sir!

As is typical, Spur shoot3G 5/20, 25%, and lose.

Spurs have become totally dependent on 3Gs to win.

Tony had his legs, but Spurs get only 13 AST on 33 FGs.

Spurs just really suck.

If Tony could have just given it up on a 2 on 1 with Manu, we'd have a 3 point lead and the whole building would be going nuts. That was the play of the game. A 4 point swing and presto, we lost.

We have a point guard who is unwilling and unable to pass the damn ball to the shooting guard. It's fucking ridiculous.

That's why I've gone to countless GTGs with the SpursTalk people to watch the games, why I've bitched out the Miami Heat in a pre-season game, why I've gone to the airport to see the Spurs come in more than once, why I sat overnight for Finals tickets in 1999...but it's okay, you're sending positive vibes.

Oh well... it really seems that out of our Big 3, only Manu really cares about winning (or even remembers how to). He did great... Manu - we back you up!

Tony is still passable in the first 3 quarters, but duncan is getting worse and worse.

He used to carry the team during the first 3 1/2 quarters, but he doesn't even do that anymore.

Where is the good D? Where's the effort and execution? Luckily the spurs still have 1/2 a season to get back to where they should be.

Smush? Turiaf? Bynum? Who are these people scoring clutch baskets on the Spurs?

Props to the Lakers - they've done a great job fighting back into the game.

Spurs heading for a 55 - 27 season.

Lakers can't catch Suns, Spurs can't catch Mavs.

Lakers are the team we are most likely to see in first round as 4th/5th seeds. But in the first round, they'll have Lamar back,

I don't know why people have to blame anyone. They are a team. A lot of individual mistakes and poor team play add up to a team loss. It's on the team.

And no one should be bitching about the mistakes in the last couple minutes. The Spurs never needed to be down by 10 with a few minutes to go.

I have notice this habit for a long time now, all Tim would do is stand under the rim with his hands up. Is it do to the fact that he doesn’t want to pick up fouls, to slow to jump when a player is coming at him, or thinks he is just tall enough to just stand there with his hands in the air.

Very true. The Spurs could have won this game. The Spurs have the talent to win this and other games but as a unit they are not doing as well as they could be.

A shakeup has to be done but it has to be the right kind. The Spurs can't make a trade for the sole purpose of making a trade. The right trade could mean another title, the wrong one could set the Spurs back even further.

I agree.

It's just that Udrih has been frustrating me this entire season. And he is the point guard while Parker takes breathers... Us getting outscored while he's on the floor has a lot to do with how he gets the offense rolling. His +/- numbers were good last season... for a point guard they are absolutely terrible this season.

c. A technical foul called for (1) delay of game, (2) coaches box violations, (3) defensive 3-seconds, or (4) having a team total of less or more than five players when the ball is alive, or (5) an offensive player hanging on his basket ring or backboard, is not considered an act of unsportsmanlike conduct.

Yes you are wrong.

If that many people foul out that it gets down to four, they bring back in the first one that fouled out and get assessed a T or something if he fouls again.

oh wow. ok thanks. :)

I agree.

It's just that Udrih has been frustrating me this entire season. And he is the point guard while Parker takes breathers... Us getting outscored while he's on the floor has a lot to do with how he gets the offense rolling. His +/- numbers were good last season... for a point guard they are absolutely terrible this season.I'm probably as pissed at him as anybody else, but I'm trying to point out that the problems runs a lot deeper than just Beno.

If I could honestly say "take Beno out and we would have won" I'd be confident that a quick solution is possible. But after tonight's game - I can't.

ShoogarBear

I think if a team is down to 4 because of fouls and/or injury then its permissible. I may be wrong...anyone?

a. Each team shall consist of five players. No team may be reduced to less than five players. If a player in the game receives his sixth personal foul and all substitutes have already been disqualified, said player shall remain in the game and shall be charged with a personal and team foul. A technical foul also shall be assessed against his team. All subsequent personal fouls, including offensive fouls, shall be treated similarly. All players who have six or more personal fouls and remain in the game shall be treated similarly.
b. In the event that there are only five eligible players remaining and one of these players is injured and must leave the game or is ejected, he must be replaced by the last player who was disqualified by reason of receiving six personal fouls. Each subsequent requirement to replace an injured or ejected player will be treated in this inverse order. Any such re-entry into a game by a disqualified player shall be penalized by a technical foul.
c. In the event that a player becomes ill and must leave the court while the ball is in play, the official will stop play immediately when his team gains new possession. The player shall be replaced and no technical foul will be assessed. The opposing team is also permitted to substitute one player.

We can't trade Barry unless his salary is absolutely needed to get all-star caliber player in return.

His ability to knock down the occasional clutch 3 pointer is the reason we need to treat him more like Kerr than like some 'old white swingman'. There aren't many Barry type players in the league. If only he play up to his potential every night though.... with a little more aggresiveness and la little less tentativeness on his 'open' looks.

There's no such thing as a good loss, but that was a bad one...

The worst thing about the game was it didn't look like a fluke, either. The Lakers looked like the better team. In San Antonio. Without Brown (who actually gives Timmy problems) or Odom (who's a nightmare matchup for us). Not good.

To me, everyone on the whole team can be traded right now if it makes good basketball sense to do so. Though, any trade with Tim, Manu, Tony or Bruce probably doesn't. So I guess those players are out of the mix.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that the FO should dangle our other assets first before dangling Barry as trade bait (outside of the Big 4 of course).

Scola's rights,
Williams' expiring contract
Butler
White
Beno

even

Scola's rights, they've been dangling for years. I don't think anyone is taking the risk. Williams' contract combined with another player might be worth something to someone. I'm not sure Butler or White are worth anything to anyone. Beno has been being shopped for years. Hopefully someone eventually bites.

Horry, I'm not sure about. Finley is probably being dangled as much as Barry but more teams would probably take Barry right now.

The Spurs need to try to pluck players from Seattle. They don't want to keep both Watson and Ridnour. They are dangling Damien Wilkins, Johan Petro. Even Ray and Rashard can be had (though I don't know if the Spurs would want their level of contract).

Yeah, usually I don't start caring until the playoffs, but that was just a disgrace.

It was a slap in the face to the fans and the jerseys hanging in the rafters. If the Spurs don't feel like playing hard and the coaches don't feel like managing a game at least to the point where you have the right number of players on the court, just stop the game and go home.

I wonder why people are still trying to trade Barry. Most likely if the FO trades a different player (like Beno and Barry gets time at point), he'll be fine. We've seen Barry with the capability to produce when he's given time.

As for Duncan, his subpar rebounding and aggression on defense are certainly raising flags. He had 4 blocked shots early on, but then he just watched dunk after dunk after dunk. He also missed critical free throws

Bowen took some poor shots

Ginobili likes to shoot and handle in the fourth. Sometimes it's good, sometimes, not so much

Parker's 2 on 1 break was pretty bad

I'm not too dissapointed with the loss. We just got EXTREMELY careless with the ball, it seemed like we had a turnover every time down the court, and still managed to come back from a ten point deficit. If the same team that showed up in the fourth (minus the turnovers) shows up in the playoffs, we're set.

JRich is injured, doesn't play D, and makes too much, but I've heard rumors the Warriors want to move him. And he sucks at free throws.

Ellis is too small, and Nellie loves him.

Pietrus is probably the most likely of the bunch to be pried loose by the Spurs, although I think he's the most limited.

I suspect SJax is unlikely, although I think if he's willing to accept fewer minutes he'd do a good job on both ends of the court back under Pop's coaching.

I'd just like to put in my 2 cents, a little late I know.

Spurs obviously have issues. I haven't seen another player step up outside of our Big Three in quite some time, it's actually sickening. Props to Barry for at least hitting that go ahead 3 pointer. Spurs are not the Spurs, I'm sure they realize it now more than ever.

Second thing, HOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLY SHIT is Kobe Bryant an amazing player. I know everyone is always pimping him, but I don't think Bruce Bowen could have played any better defense on the guy yesterday. He was just making unbelievable shots like it was the easiest thing in the world. If there was any doubt who the best NBA player in the league is right now, I think he's established it. Wade has the speed and power to drive to the hole and get amazing layups and shots. Lebron has the speed and agility to muscle his way into fast break dunks...BUT Kobe not only can do both of those things, he has the sweetest fadaway I've seen in a while. I just may jump on the Kobe bandwagon after the way he's been playing this season. :oops

(watch him go 5-26 tonight against the Mavs...:lol)

Solid D

He really is. He's the reason the Lakers are seldom ever out of a game. There have been a couple of games when Phil has taken Kobe out and semi-waved the white flag but usually, no lead is safe for opposing teams.

Kobe's as close to Jordan as any player I know of.

Medvedenko
01-18-2007, 06:49 PM
Kobe is playing a lot more balanced this year....some game he goes on the distributor role too much and some games he shoots too much. However these games are far from frequent and he's balanced it a lot better. Nice to see Radman hit a few big shots last night. He's slowly turning it around. Everyone thought that since Odom was out that Kobe would average 40 p/g however he's upped his assists and kept his shots per game on the level.

Seriously, that's the thing that amazed me most last night (aside from the Spurs losing :lol). I know everyone usually debates this back and forth about Kobe being the next Jordan or is it Wade, Lebron, etc. But Kobe's game while obviously not MJ level, very closely resembles it. I seriously had some nice flashbacks to watching MJ in his young days as I watched Kobe make those crazy fadaways with Bowen right on top of him. I don't think anyone could have played better defense on Kobe last night than Bowen did, but the guy just made amazing shots.

Crazy thing is, now that he's passing and taking over games, I actually enjoy watching the Lakers play (just not against the SPurs....)

What'll be interesting is how they play once they get back Lamar Odom. Cook, Evans, and Radmanavic have been playing great for them. Obviouslt incorporating Lamar back in will be an adjustment. They obviously won't win the West, but they'll give any team a long series.
