Clippers Sign Alvin Williams to 10-Day Contract

The Los Angeles Clippers today signed guard Alvin Williams to a 10-day contract, it was announced by Vice President of Basketball Operations Elgin Baylor.

An eight-year NBA veteran who played with Portland and Toronto, Williams has appeared in 458 career NBA regular season games, averaging 9.1 points per game and 4.1 assists. Selected by Portland in the second round of the 1997 NBA Draft with the 48th overall selection, Williams joined Toronto in a trade midway through the 1997-98 season and proceeded to flourish with the Raptors.

Williams played in all 82 games for Toronto in the 2000-01 and 2001-02 seasons, while averaging a career-high 13.2 ppg in 2002-03. The Raptors all-time assist leader with 1,791 and the owner of the Raptors longest consecutive games steak (187, from April 16, 2000 – Dec. 11, 2002), Williams missed the 2004-05 NBA season due to microfracture surgery on his right knee, and only appeared in one game for the Raptors the following season as he recovered. The Raptors released Williams on July 25, 2006.

In 18 career playoff games, Williams is averaging 12.5 ppg, 4.3 apg and 3.2 rpg.

I forgot he was still alive. If he's at least 25% of his former self, he could've helped the Spurs.

Sam Cassell's chronic foot problems helped put the Los Angeles Clippers in a huge hole. Now that he's back and spreading the floor for Elton Brand, they're starting to look more like the playoff team they were last season.

Brand scored a season-high 34 points, and Cassell added 21 points and a season-high 14 assists to help the Clippers rout the Memphis Grizzlies 112-91 Sunday.

Alvin is a great leader and stablizing factor for them. He's looking to get into coaching soon.

The clippers must be getting ready to move someone, not saying it is Maggette but the clippers already signed Luke Jackson, now Alvin Williams.

They are signing these guys because of injuries...Livingston has been injured, so they needed a backup PG.
