Only Phoenix.
The other teams would all be very good, but I don't think they'd dominate as in run away with the conference.

The Mavs and Suns definitely would run away with it. The Spurs would too. However, i think if both the Mavs and Suns were in the East, the Suns would have the better record, mainly because their style of play wins more games against shitty teams than the style that the Mavs and Spurs play. but the Mavs and Spurs are still better playoff teams, which is all that matters.

S.I. answer,
ANSWER: g.
Dallas, Phoenix and Houston are a combined 32-5 against the East (even though the Rockets have played half their schedule without either Yao Ming or Tracy McGrady). San Antonio, Utah and the Lakers are playing in the tougher conference and yet winning at a higher rate than any team in the East.

The Lakers lost to Detroit, Washington, and MILWAUKEE at home. They lost to Miami, Chicago, Charlotte. The Lakers would be a good team in the Eastern Conference. They would not dominate.
Again, Phoenix would dominate the Eastern Conference because of their style of play.
If teams in the Eastern Conference got used to playing Dallas, they would play them better. Plus, the Mavs start Jason Terry and Devin Harris at the guard positions. The East is loaded with big shooting guards from Vince, Wade, Joe Johnson, Redd, Rip, and Grant Hill. Huge exploitable mismatch if teams got to see Dallas more than twice a season.
Houston, if healthy, should be able to dominate either conference. They haven't been healthy though. Plus, again, familiarity would help against Houston. How many times has Houston had pretty substantial leads in the second half only to lose the game? Teams have figured out to speed up the pace against the Rockets because Yao gets tired in the fourth quarter. If an opposing team can keep it close thru three quarters, they have the Rockets in good position to beat them. That same problem wouldn't change in the Eastern Conference.
Utah lost to New York and Charlotte. That right there tells you they would not dominate the EC.
Dallas lost to the Pistons at home, and they barely beat Miami without Shaq and Wade on one foot.
Like I said, any of the top teams in the WC would still be very good in the Eastern Conference. But, as for "dominating" the Eastern Conference, I only think Phoenix could do that.

I doubt Phoenix would even dominate. They're easily the hardest team for the eastern conference teams to play against cuz of their style but once you play them a few times you figure out what you need to do. They would definitely win the conference though. Most of the western conference teams play Phoenix closer since they see them more. If I'm not mistaken, the Suns will be playing a big majority of their games in the 2nd half of the season in the western conference since they've been playing mostly eastern conference teams up til now. It will be interesting to see if the Suns can keep up their winning % the 2nd half of the season.

Phoenix has played 17 of 40 games against the Eastern Conference. They have 13 games left against the EC. And, yes, they've cleaned up against the EC, with a 16-1 record, with their only loss to the Washington Wizards in overtime.
But, I don't disagree with what you're saying, mabber.
I guess the question is how you define the word "dominate." To me, it's running away with the conference, with no team really even close.
Those people who think teams like Utah, the Lakers, the Rockets could just as easily do that, well, that's your opinion.
The only teams I see capable of doing it are the Mavs, Suns, and Spurs. And, the only team I could see actually doing it is Phoenix.

Yeah, it really all comes down to one's definition of "dominate".

:tu Seriously, if that. Miami has a record similiar to the Grizz in the West, and yet have a more than serious chance of making it to the 7th or 8th seed.
Not to mention the Frickin Toronto Raptors are the 4th seed and are well below .500. In the west, half those teams would be lottery bound.

you forget about the pistons record last season? and the heat and pistons winning the championships in the last few seasons? so much for dominating

The only reason the Raptors were the 4th seed recently was because they were first in their division. If they were first in their division in the Western Conference, even with a sub 500 record, being first in their division would make them a top 4 seed in the WC as well.
the Mavs. we went 15-0 at home vs the JV conference last year

Just because a team from the East wins doesn't mean that the conference as a whole isn't weak. Detroit was a big time underdog that benefited big time from Karl Malone getting hurt, and we all know what happened in last years Finals. I can't even remember in any sport where a conference has been so much stronger than the other one for so long.

East was on the rise. Many of the teams were grind it out defensive teams. If Detroit didn't win in 04 Indy would of. The rules are now for high octane offense, which really helps WC teams. Bottom line a team like Detroit, Miami, Chicago, or Indy could get to the Finals and win. Regular season doesn't matter. No team would dominate in the East in that list because they wouldn't have to. The Pistons don't because they play to the level of competition. In the West you have to win for playoff positioning. Teams in the East can let 3 or 4 games slide every once in a while

Or you can be like the Miami Heat and lose more games than you win the first half of the season and still probably be the team to come out of the east. If Shaq stays healthy after he comes back, I don't see anyone beating them in the eastern conference playoffs.
