Parcells retires from coaching after 9-7 season
Associated Press

IRVING, Texas -- Bill Parcells retired from coaching Monday, leaving the Dallas Cowboys after four seasons and ending a stellar career that featured three Super Bowl appearances and two championships.

The announcement came 15 days after the Cowboys' season ended with a heartbreaking playoff loss in Seattle. He'd been at his office nearly every day since, and there were other indications that the 65-year-old coach was returning for a fifth year in Dallas and 20th as an NFL head coach.

"I am in good health and feel lucky to have been able to coach in the NFL for an extended period of time," he said in a statement. "I leave the game and the NFL with nothing but good feelings and gratitude to all the players, coaches and other people that have assisted me in that regard."

Don't screw this up, Jerry. Please not Wade Phillips.

Cowher, Stoops, and Rex Ryan are out there -- don't screw this up.

Bring in Cowher and LaBeau.

Doesn't Cowher still have 1 more year on his contract?

MajorMike

Cowher would be a huge coup. I hate the cowgirls of irving, I hope they don't get him. I think in a year, yes. It's too soon now.

Why not Rob Ryan? His defenses shine on a terrible Raiders squad with half the names his brother has.

Au contraire, Trainwreck...if we're pimping threads, you've got to show some love for "James Logan Football."

I couldn't help but wonder if TO was the main reason for this.

**Tuna enters Jerry's office**

Bill: Get rid of TO or I'm gone.
Jerry: There's the door.
Bill: See ya.

In a perfect convergence, the Bolts would have fired Marty, and Jerry would have hired him. :lol

Shame.

Parcells leaving makes the cowboys a whole hell of alot less interesting.

The press conferences, the hidden microphones, the NFL films microphones during the games.

Favorite sound bit.

players coming to the side line

"Hey guys are we gonna play tonight or are we just gonna fuck around all night"

You'd basically have to (maybe double Gibbs type money). If he wanted to coach next year, there was no reason to leave a Pittsburgh team that really wasn't as bad as its record and should be in the thick of it again next year.

So last year specifically, and this year to a certain extent...was it poor play calling by the offensive coordinator that resulted in the Cowboys' lack of offensive production?

Or has it been Parcells all along holding back Maurice Carthon first, then Sean Payton, etc?

Just look at him how he just stood there on the sidelines with that sick look on his face. His fire is out his passion is gone.

This is unfortunate. I liked Parcells as the coach despite the crushing losses that occurred last year. Who else can they get?

Yep....the Saints game I think, sealed it for him in his mind that it was time for him to go.

I don't want to Stoops to leave OU... I just want him to coach Dallas.

I'm thinking he can do both. :lol

Who knows how successfull Stoops would be.

I personally would rank em

Cowher.
Soprano (Yeah i know thats not how you spell it, but who cares)
Ron Rivera.

scott

We'd have to give up draft picks for Cowher. Not going to happen. Tampa gave Oakland 2 first rounds and 2 second rounders for Gruden. Cowher isn't worth that at all. Hell, he was a flop of a coach before his lucky run last year. He isn't the reincarnation of Chuck Noll like people think he is.

King
01-23-2007, 09:53 AM
I don't want to give up any picks for a coach - so Cowher's out. I really like Rex Ryan, and think he'd do wonders with the talent on this defense. Ron Rivera is a good suggestion, too.

I want youth somewhere in here. I've heard Jason Garrett's name being tossed around as either OC or QB coach, neither of which I'd be particularly opposed to. Norv is a thought at OC, but not HC.

StylisticS

I think it will come down to Norv, Wade, or Rivera. If we don't have a coach by the end of the week. I think we're waiting for Rivera.
