Pretty much this same rotation won 63 games last season.

dg7md
01-24-2007, 11:12 PM
Last year was our year to win it. If we did? We would have repeated, Finley would have had a title, 4 titles overall. Now we are pretty much screwed for the next 5 years because Pop went smallball.

I predict 25 losses this year.

These guys are stinking up the place. The crowd should chant "REFUND" and get their money back. The Spurs are about to get swept, at home, by both the Mavs and Rockets...that's wowifying. Everyone throwing up weak shit, even the almighty Duncan who continues to play as though he retired already. Robinson is rolling over in his grave...or at least in his seat.

I hate the words "quite frankly" (thanks S.A.S.hole), but quite frankly these guys blow.

That final possesion was horrible coaching. You have to talk about what you do in that possession in the prior time out if you're not going to take a TO there. The team must know that you take a quick 2 and foul or you take the fucking 3, but you can't run down the clock and then take a 2. Thats the worst scenario.

Take a time out and talk it over, you don't get to save the TO for the next close and very important game.

Bruce plays good solid defense, still. He just no longer has that extra something that bothers the elite scorers and throws them off a little bit.

And without that, he doesn't add enough in other areas of the game to be effective anymore.

I just can't believe we're shocked that a 36-year-old perimeter player has lost a step. The Spurs should have seen this coming for years. For years, even folks on this forum have been railing on the need for a long 3, because Bowen was getting up there in age.

And now he's old, and has lost a step, and can't make the difference on defense.

The same sort of thing applies to other players in the Spurs' rotation.

Oh, well, at least Holt got his luxury tax dividends. And three titles aren't too bad.

Once upon a time, Tim Duncan was promised that the front office would put a surrounding cast around him every year that at least would make the Spurs contenders. That was his condition for staying in San Antonio.

I wonder how Tim would look in purple and gold, next to Kobe and Lamar Odom?

:tu Looking at them tonight, I don't even think a trade would help. If we had done the Corey Magette trade, you think he would have helped the Spurs win tonight? I highly doubt that...

Part of the reasons Pop has such horrible rotations is because he has no idea who to go to! NO ONE is playing well consistently for the Spurs, including Tim Duncan. No one is playing with any passion, including Manu Ginobili. No one is setting great plays up for 48 minutes, including Tony Parker. No one is playing smart basketball, including Robert Horry. No one is playing great defense for 48 minutes, including Bruce Bowen.

Of course not. I'm saying that a trade is not going to be enough. Spurs need to start changing their game plan if they want to win more games. They need to play for 48 minutes and play every game equally, why they have trouble doing so is beyond me. They need better ball movement, intensity, and an energizer off the bench.

Pop Rotation Is A Huge Probleme Each At The 4th -10

Actually, I think it's more of the 3rd quarter that he has difficulty with.

In the Dallas game, we had a 10 point lead at halftime. Pop puts in a crazy lineup of Finley, Barry, Bowen, Ginobili, and Oberto or something ridiculous and the Spurs end up losing the lead.

Same thing against the Sixers and Celtics past two games. 3rd quarter he puts in a weird lineup and our double digit lead goes down to single.

Part of the reason could be that Pop really has limited options right now with who to play seeing as Horry and Finley are combined for 34% shooting, Barry can play ZERO defense, and Beno is useless. However, that's why Pop should seriously consider giving Duncan/Parker/Ginobili more minutes and making sure that he always has at least two of them on the floor to give the Spurs somewhat of a constant offense. But he hasn't been doing that....:(

Did you see I just said that in another thread?

It was always a priority in the past for him to always have 2 of the big 3 out there at almost all the time. And it was very effective. Now he leaves one of them out there alone and the bench isn't good enough to do that.

He needs to get back to that philosophy of keeping at least 2 of the 3 on the court.

Oberto has the opposite problem. He sets great screens and his rotations are also good, but he's too undersized to really be an impact in the middle and alter shots when Bowen and Company funnel players to the middle. Due to Oberto and Elson's inefficiences, Tim is looking worse defensively in the middle and constantly getting dunked on.

Heck, Rafer Alson looked like an All Star tonight against our defense!

I hadn't realized you said that too. Great minds think alike? :)

The only reason I can see why he's not doing that is maybe he wants to either give them more of a rest to be ready in the 4th quarter or he wants to give the bench more time to produce and grow. I'm thinking it is probably due to the latter, but he could still play Finley/Horry/Barry with any combo of the big three.

This is a little off subject but I need to vent this my Spurstalk brethren.

I went to the game tonight and was pretty bummed out as I realized that my "Going to the Game" record over 5 games has now gone to 1-4. Pathetic. The atmosphere was tense as Rocket fans chanted and Spurs fans grumbled. As I walked to the car, I'm thinking things can't get worse and then a huge fight breaks out right in front of me. I figured some of the rowdy Rockets fans were fans mixing it up with Spurs fans but there was no Rockets apparel amongst the combatants. I'm left to assume that it was Spurs Fan-on-Spurs Fan violence. In our own parking lot no less. This disturbed me more than Pops decision to once again, go small.

It was a pretty crazy fight, by anybody's standards. It's hard to gauge how many people were throwing down. I'd say at least 6. One older guy got pretty jacked by two younger guys. Then as the younger guys moved on and started throwing down with some other folks, the old guy took off his belt and started swinging the buckle around like a mace. Then he slipped and fell on his on ass before he even got close to the guys he was going after, which was pretty funny and also a little sad. The shit was really getting crazy and violent at this point so I moved on and told the parking attendents to get some cops over there.

This fight was pretty embarassing. As Spurs fans, I've always thought that we hold ourselves to a higher standard that began with the D-Rob era and the example that he set and other followed. This was disgraceful.
