The San Antonio Express-News building was evacuated a little after noon briefly following discovery of a suitcase leaning against a building an hour before.
San Antonio Police Sgt. Salvador Gonzales emphasized there was no reason to believe there was a bomb in the suitcase, but said bomb squad and fire crews evacuated the building as a precaution.
A passerby alerted the Express-News security about the suitcase around 11 a.m., Gonzales said.
The suitcase was leaning against the building on Avenue E and Fourth street near the press room.
Gonzales also emphasized that no threat had been called in today or recently to the Express-News.
Initially, only the employees in press room were evacuated, but later firefighters chose to evacuate everyone from building.
Firefighters and police have cordoned off Avenue E in front of the Express-News from Third Avenue all the way to McCullough.
The bomb squad, using a remote device blasted upon the suitcase. Nothing was inside.
Employees were let back into the building.
