The Police have booked rehearsal space for their upcoming reunion tour, according to reports.

The news seems to confirm claims that the band are on the brink of reforming, more than 20 years since they last played live.

Sting, Andy Summers, and Stewart Copeland are expected to reunite at Lions Gate Studios in Vancouver in the coming weeks to work on material.

With the group currently celebrating the 30th anniversary of their breakthrough hit "Roxanne," details of a full world tour are expected shortly, reports Billboard.

It is also widely expected that the Police will play during the opening section of the 2007 Grammy Awards next month. The event takes place at the Los Angeles' Staples Center on February 11.

Maybe they're just rehearsing so they don't suck at the Grammys. Sting has never been interested in a re-union before.

Word is that after the Grammys' performance, Sting is continuing his tour of Europe, then after that - they are supposed to get together and rehearse for a Summer tour. Don't you know the price for those tickets will NOT be cheap that's for sure.

Might better off going to see Van Halen with David Lee Roth this summer instead.

Are they going to practice getting into fistfights with each other?

I'll probably want to go see it, then blow it off when I see the ticket prices.

Maybe I'll wait and see if the Genesis reunion tour makes it to the states.

start saving now folks.

Since it is announced again and again by Billboard, find here again the article we removed last week:
The Police will open the Grammy Music Awards show on February 11, 2007 - their first public performance since their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
NOTE: While none of the above is officially confirmed, nor Grammy.com mentions anything, you can trust us that this WILL happen.

Also, for those still doubting: almost 80 tourdates have been fixed and will be released in the next weeks. So keep your agendas open for May, June and July for sure. In related news, we are also aware that 30 and more songs are being rehearsed.

Not me, unless Peter Gabriel and Steve Hackett sign on.

I think there was actually some talk of bringing Gabriel back into the fold for a tour. I never considered Hackett a virtuouso or anything, so I'd be fine with Rutherford and Stuermer handling all guitar/bass duties.

Police, Genesis, Queen, Pink Floyd . . . fucking great bands.

I would pay anything to see The Police live. They played in Argentina in 1980. I was too young to go. Quenn played in '81. Still too young.

I have seen Sting live three times since then.

They were both asked but due to prior commitments were unable to participate in the (so far) European Tour this year.

(From Peter Gabriel) "Well they did ask me and there was a big number being thrown around the place and I didn't rule it out it. I just I felt that at the moment I was writing some new material and got some other things I wanted to do. So I said right now it's a no. I think they seemed to be enjoying the rehearsals from what I've heard, so there's no bad feeling there. I think the problem is if it was just a one-off it would be a lot easier for me to take on board."

(From Steve Hackett) "I was originally approached to discuss the possibility of a five piece which would have included Peter Gabriel and yours truly but since Peter’s schedule precludes this it makes sense for the other three to celebrate the brand in their ‘own special way’ as it were ...."

So it's possible down the road - perhaps here in America. (Cross your fingers)

another update from stingus.net

--------------------------------

Here are some facts to keep in mind:
- The Police will NOT appear at the Coachella or Glastonbury festivals.
- NO complete new album is to be expected, rather however a number of new songs that will appear on a new best of or box set.
- The Police are NOT rehearsing for the tour (yet), but just for the Grammys.
- NEW DVDs of The Police will soon be released.

And really, for an offical announcement of the tour we will all need to wait till the day after the Grammys.

you dream of $250 tickets?no. my dream of The Police touring again is coming true and i'm saying the sarcastic "hello" to $250 tickets. hence the period.

i couldn't justify paying over $40 to see anyone, that's all. luckily most of the artists i prefer to see don't charge more than $25. charging someone more than $30 and playing for less than two hours is criminal.

I think the highest I'd probably go is $75. Supply and demand warrants it for certain acts... and it can be a pretty memorable experience, especially if you don't go to many live shows.

I got tickets to Eric Clapton at work today. It should be pretty cool to see him live, but I don't know that I would have paid more than $25.

i saw john fogerty in 98 or 99 for $25, he played for over 2.5 hours and played pretty much everything. easy though, since most of CCR's songs clock in at around 3 minutes. his voice hadn't lost a step at all.

NEW YORK(AP) The Police will reunite to perform at this year's Grammys ceremony, the Recording Academy announced Tuesday.

The award-winning group, which won five Grammys and turned out hits such as "Roxanne" and "Every Breath You Take," will open the event _ 23 years after breaking up amid internal conflict.

The band _ singer Sting, drummer Stewart Copeland and guitarist Andy Summers _ fused reggae with pop and rock, and last performed together in 2003 when they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Sting fanned speculation of a Police reunion and tour when he told the Television Critics Association earlier this month that he and his former bandmates were "talking about" doing something to commemorate their 30th anniversary.

After the band split in 1984, he went on to more success as a solo artist and put out dreamy singles such as "Fields of Gold" and "Desert Rose." His latest album, a collection of 16th-century classical music called "Songs From the Labyrinth," was released in October.

Copeland examined his life in the Police in his music documentary "Everyone Stares: The Police Inside Out," which premiered at last year's Sundance Film Festival.

CBS will air the 49th annual Grammy Awards ceremony live from Los Angeles on Feb. 11.

Lucky you, how much were they? They're not going to be anywhere near me unfortunately. http://spurstalk.com/forums/images/smilies/smidepressed.gifLucky, I was. There were 3 people in front of me. The first guy got section 15. Floor tickets. The second guy got section 325, then the ticket printer broke. Luckily, my sis down in S.A. was on ticketmaster.com. First, of all every single employee at ticketmaster should hang 'til they fall off. She got these two for $240 a pop, and they'll be worth every penny.
