IRVING, Texas - The Oklahoma State Cowboys were selected to finish second in the 2007 Big 12 Conference baseball race in a preseason poll of the league’s coaches, it was announced Monday.
Coach Frank Anderson’s Cowboys received 70 points from the conference’s coaches, including a pair of first-place votes. Each coach ranked the conference’s teams 1-9 and was not allowed to vote for their own team.

OSU is coming off a second-place finish in the Big 12 standings in 2006, which marks their highest-ever finish in the league. The Cowboys were 18-9 in league play last season.

Texas, which finished atop the standings in 2006, was the choice to repeat as champions. The Longhorns were 19-7 in league play a year ago and received seven of the 10 first-place votes by the league coaches.

OSU opens the season Friday when it hosts Hofstra at 3 p.m. at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.

Actually, the season is already a week old for Oregon State, they kicked off NCAA play in Hawaii last week with a 4-game sweep of Hilo. You visit Georgia next weekend.

I'm excited for Nebraska...last year's great ending to the regular season and getting a National Seed/Home Field in the tournament turned into shit when swept in the Regionals. I'm hoping the boys come out to play again this year.

If you want to get technical, Kansas was Big 12 Champions last year after defeating Nebraska in the final game of the tournament.

The quote is correct. UT finished atop the standings. The Big 12 considers the reg season winner the Big 12 Champion. OSU was 2nd in the standings, our highest ever finish.

The winner of the B12 Tourney is considered the 'Big 12 Baseball Postseason Tournement Champion.' OSU won that in '04.

It's confusing CaptMike and it's the same for basketball, and I've never liked it... The Tournament Champion is the true champion by virtue of getting the NCAA tournament bid, bottom line. Regular season is nice, but not the true "champions"

Its not the same for basketball. The reg season only seeds the teams; the tourney winner gets the auto bid.

Exactly, and is the same in baseball - Regular season results seeds teams, the tourney gets the auto bid. Except both get trophies and declare themselves Champs. I don't like it.

Its wordplay.

The B12 Basketball Champion is the tounrey winner. The reg season winner is the Regular Season Champion.

The B12 Baseball Champion is the reg season winner. The tourney winning is the Postseason Tournement Champion.

If you look in the B12 Championship listings, they list the reg season winners for baseball, and both for basketball.

Also, basketball is considered a complete 'free for all,' meaning any of the 12 teams can win. Baseball isn't; it is exclusive. Only the top 8 get in, and it isn't a true tourney - it is the winners of the 2 pods going head-to-head.

Arkansas started 3rd, went to 5th, 7th and now 9th?

Haha.
