I rate the best IMO with number of :smokin s
The 100 most romantic love songs of all time
New York Daily News
BY JIM FARBER
The Temptations in 1966.
Some may find them smug. Or sappy. Or at the very least overplayed. But the songs below have probably made more lovers misty than any music in memory.
So how did we go about compiling this list of hand-holding odes? Eligible songs had to have endured at least a decade in the public consciousness, if not two or three. More, they had to have been popular enough to have ranked among the Top 20 songs in whatever year they were released.
One more note: These aren't necessarily the sexist songs of all time. If they had been, you would have seen cuts by James Brown and Prince near the top. Neither are they the edgiest. Or those that stoke the most pained yearning. Instead, they're classic serenades to a love achieved, songs meant to make you swoon.

I'm sorry, this entire list is in default and completely invalidated: Not ONE Luther Vandross song? NOT ONE? Luther has done more to get guys laid than anyone since the inventor of alcohol.
Not ONE Teddy Pendergrass?
WTF? The ARCHIES?????
Where is Betcha By Golly Wow? Marvin Gay's I Want You?
If you apply their bogus critieria of having to be in the top twenty songs for the year, Endless Love (a song I hate) has to be there as Jim said.
11. "Best Of My Love" - The Emotions Not a romantic love song.
41. "Sugar Sugar" - The Archies The Archies? THE ARCHIES??????
58. "Lovin You" - Minnie Ripperton:vomit: Would be a good song except for those f-ing birds.
59. "Shining Star" - Earth Wind & Fire :smokin :smokin Not a romantic love song.
99. "When I Fall In Love" - Nat King Cole Should be in the top ten.

That list sucks balls. I agree completely with Shoog about LV. But some of those songs are fucking horrible too. I just called to say I love you? Fucking gross.

Best of my Love- The Eagles This one should be on there too.
And Shoog, Endless Love is a song I think is sappy too, but it is a romantic song and Lionel and Diana nail it together just about better than any other duet out there.

This list is a sham without "Case of You" by Joni Mitchell and "Something" by the Beatles.

And I would still be on my feet."

We were listening to #7 when I proposed to Ruth...
in all seriousness, this lyric is one of the best romantic lyrics ever:
And the first time ever I kissed your mouth
I felt the earth move through my hand
Like the trembling heart of a captive bird

I never thought of "Heart of Gold" as a love song. Great song -- not a love song.

And the lyrics of "Take on Me" are a bad translation from Norwegian. They make no sense at all. What's romantic about that?

Man,the more I read that list the more it pisses me off. Al Green and Marvin are ranked WAY too fucking low.

I could come up with a long list of problems with this top 100 if I felt like thoroughly picking it apart.
But the fact that "Hooked On A Feeling" by Blue Swede and "I Will Follow Him" by Little Peggy March made the cut, while neither Sam Cooke's "You Send Me" nor Van Morrison's "Sweet Thing" were deemed worthy really says it all.

No Smokey Robinson?
I think "Hooked On A Feeling" is a good choice except they picked the wrong version.....it should be the B.J. Thomas version instead....the Blue Suede version is just more novelty than anything else with that oooga chucka crap.
