Mercer may miss six weeks
SportsTicker
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- New Jersey Nets guard Ron Mercer is scheduled to undergo left knee surgery Monday and could be sidelined for up to a month.

Signed to a two-year, $3.3 million deal in the offseason, Mercer averaged 9.3 points in his first three games. He sat out the last two games with a swollen knee.

In New Jersey, the 6-foot-7 Mercer was expected to fill the roster spot vacated by guard Kerry Kittles, who was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers in a cost-cutting move.

Selected sixth overall by Boston in 1997, Mercer is with his seventh team. He enjoyed his best season with Chicago in 2000-01, when he averaged 19.1 points.

But Mercer has seen his numbers steadily decline and has not averaged higher than 7.7 points in the last three seasons.

Rather than keep posting random stuff in different threads. Maybe people can post stuff here for those who are interested.

Good luck to all of the former Spurs.

I reckon it's awesome that this guy is getting an opportunity to show his wares in big minutes. Good on him. :)

It's true, and he's delivered in a big way.

I have him on my fantasy team, so I hope he keeps producing.

:lol I picked him up in one of the leagues I am in the other day for Eric Snow, so I hope he keeps producing too. Shame Snow isn't seeing as much time as he should.

I also managed to trade Terry for 'Melo. Very happy with that one. :drunk

Nets' Mercer Placed On Injured List

POSTED: 2:10 pm EST November 13, 2004

East Rutherford, NJ -- The New Jersey Nets Saturday placed guard Ron Mercer on the injured list. Mercer is scheduled to undergo left knee surgery on Monday and could be out of action for up to four weeks.

After signing with the Nets as a free agent this summer, Mercer played in the first three regular-season games before suffering swelling in the knee.

The 6-foot-7 Mercer spent the 2003-04 campaign, his seventh in the NBA, with the San Antonio Spurs. He played just 39 games due to various injuries and suffered his least-productive scoring season with just 5.0 points per contest.

The University of Kentucky product has also spent time with the Boston Celtics, Denver Nuggets, Orlando Magic, Chicago Bulls and Indiana Pacers. He holds career averages of 13.9 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.2 assists over 417 games.

Meanwhile, the Nets activated forward Awvee Storey from the injured list. Storey had been sidelined with a sprained ankle.
